Hey.

I can't seem to get the circumnavigation bonus. I play on Huge, Marathon, Terra, Toroidal, Noble with like 13 other Civs. But one of them always gets it, even though I have already sent my caravel across the whole map and back to port. So it started at point A and went across the whole earth back to point A. How the hell did I not prove the earth is round by doing that? How can someone else?

I've heard of people getting the bonus by just trading MAPS! I can't even do it when I send a ship from a port, across the whole earth, and back to port. Originally I thought it was because I sent two ships and they met each other half-way. But I sent one ship the WHOLE way and nothing happens. I even did it twice... I have the game on Steam. Maybe that's why? It isn't patched up fully yet? Maybe this is a bug?

Also on a side note, how do you get the Forbidden Palace? I've colonised a continent close to me (sort of is the game version of Australia) and I want to further reduce maintenance expenses (already built courthouses in every city on that continent.) What do I need to build the forbidden palace. Also can only one be built for all the Civs? Like is it a World Wonder or a National Wonder? I guess I should check Civopedia now but I'm not at the computer that has it installed so don't get angry. ^^

Yes, trading maps reveals territory. Once you open all the territory E and W on the map, you get the bonus.

Two caravels going in opposite directions will indeed get the bonus if you are first. But, you don't necessarily need to sail the map to reveal it, Scouts can reveal most of a pangea map.

An AI probably beat you to it.

The Forbidden Palace is indeed a National Wonder, but it scales to map size, so you will need quite a few courthouses on a huge map.

Maybe I wasn't clear but I like sailed the world like 50 years before Ragnar got the Circumnavigation bonus. I mean it announced he did it a LONG time after I'd done it. How is this possible?

And what tech allows the Forbidden Palace to be built?

OpticalOrange99,

I've outlined where your problem lies. You have chosen Toroidal, which is a fun setting, however you need to connect east to west AND north to south before you get the circumnavigation bonus.

I've heard of people getting the bonus by just trading MAPS!

I often do it by simply BUYING maps. I don't want to give my maps up until after I've circumnavigated the globe. Then my maps become very valuable and the AI will buy them from me for a generous price, this usually offsets more than the price I paid to buy my way to the circumnavigation bonus.

The Forbidden Palance is a National Wonder. Only one can exist in your empire, and only two National Wonders can be built per city. Also, you need a courthouse in the city you're going to build the Forbidden Palace in (Seems you have this covered) and you need X courthouses built in your empire to build the Forbidden palace. X depends on the map size.

Ah ok. Thanks. Do you have any idea how many courthouses you need for a Huge map? 8? 6?

I'm pretty sure it's 8 on Huge, but I'm going from memory here.

Code of Laws allow you to build Courthouses.

Remember that you also need a minimum number of cities as well as courthouses to build the Forbidden Palace.

when at the city screen, place a mouse pointer on the Forbidden Palace icon in the production list. popup will show you prerequisites you need to build FP.

Yes it's 8 cities and you need to have built a Courthouse in the city you want to put it in.

National Wonders with building pre-reqs require (per the BtS Reference Guide)
Duel/Tiny: 4
Small: 5
Standard: 6
Large: 7
Huge: 8

Although I'm not positive I think the pre-requisite building must also exist in the city that you wish to build the National Wonder in.

Also, you can't build more than 2 National Wonders in any city.

I'm not sure thats true. I play with that setting all the time I don't recall even having to go north and south. I too have done it with just map trading. Odd.

Also, you can't build more than 2 National Wonders in any city.
Unless you Play One City Challenge then you can build up to 5 in BTS.
