View Full Version : Desert Solar Panels (Cottage) Improvement

Attention: This is my first post. I am a noob. I do not know if this is in the right forum.

Anyway, I got tired of deserts being worth almost nothing, so I decided to have "solar panels". While perusing the forums, I found this thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=217437&page=3) and got the idea of having the solar panels "grow" like a cottage. I downloaded woodelf's graphics (:thanx:), made a plug & play mod from the cottage xml, and started up my game. Solar panels won't upgrade. :sad: I've been looking around for a few days and found this post (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=260477), but it's not really my problem. I've uploaded my module. Help?:please:

I was going to add it, but I still can't get it to work correctly. The "solar panels" don't upgrade. :( Do you know how to fix it?

If you copy the xml entries from hamlets, villages and towns you can let it grow and yield more by linking it to your art. The entries are in the Civ4PlotsLSystem.xml file.

You forgot to link the solar panel art to your improvement entry. ;)
Furthermore, I doubt your techtree allows solar panels in the ancient, classical, medieval, renaissance and industrial era, so those entries are superfluous. :mischief:

Look at the scalar line:

You linked the art to the ancient cityset graphic from Firaxis, not to the graphics you want (the solar panels).

Also, look at the era line:

<Attribute Class="Era">ERA_ANCIENT,ERA_CLASSICAL</Attribute>

You tell your mod to let solar panels only be seen in the ancient and classical era. I doubt the technology to get solar panels up isn't even there.

Then there's the small issue of that you link the wrong textures to your graphics.

This should link to your model, not to the ancient cityset textures.
Serious, if you couldn't figure this out by now, it's hopeless to continue.

currently stuck at work, cant try this thing out, looking forward to it late tonight though.

I'm really looking forward to this one, you can buil only so many forts on desert tiles and base 4 aircraft on each. :)

i got this mod working and merged it into my mod. (see sig)

to get it to work i simplified it by removing the whole upgrade thing. It works as a static improvement on flat desert only. Thank you Patar for doing the ground work and the idea!:goodjob:
