Prelude and Rules

Welcome all NoTW players to the nineteenth a.k.a the twentieth installment of our series! The Pursuit of Havoc and the Five Pointed Pentagon promises to be fun and interesting and I hope that everyone gets a kick out of playing in it. Unlike previous NoTWs, this game will actually be a sequel to the current one: The Song of The Nightingale. It will commence a week after that game is finished, approximately June 26th.

Good Luck and Enjoy the Show.

Pinman

J-man, you should just do it; it's fun. Kol.7 has all of the previous games linked in the NOTW information thread, so there's plenty of reading material for you already. If you think my comment was 'unnecessary and not appreciated,' you clearly see it as some type of insult, and you are misinterpreting it. I'm not trying to say "Pinman is a bad GM and should stop." I was at the info thread ~2 weeks ago, and I saw there was a long list of GMs waiting. I didn't realize that the waiting GMs were too busy to host, because I'm not involved in hosting games, just playing them, so I fail to understand why you seem to take offense at my comment.

Pinman is an excellent GM, and I look forward to playing. I just wish he'd do the BoAE update.

Hi everyone, I know I've said this countless times already but it really is worth getting msn just for playing NOTW. I'm sure some people will back me up here that being able to contact other players instantly and being able to have proper conversations with them really does make NOTW more fun to play.

If you don't have msn already then why not make an account just to use while you're on CFC? If you do already have msn but don't want to add a load of potential strangers to your contact list then you can easilly just make a new account just for NOTW players, which is what I did. If you have windows live and windows messenger I'm pretty sure you can run both at the same time if you wanted too.

Anyone who does have msn wouldn't have to have their email address added to the list in the notw thread, although I assure you that addresses there are perfectly safe from any various spam bots. The NESers have had a similiar thing going on for ages and have never had any problems as far as I know.

Is that one of those chat room things on CFC? Like #fiftychat or #erebus? I really hate those things, but if someone thinks that people will actually use it then they're free to make one.

Jun 08, 2008, 05:27 AM

Ekolite
Jun 08, 2008, 05:29 AM
I think some people will probably use it, yeah. I don't really know how they work, I can never seem to get into them. Is it possible to have private conversations between just 2 or three people?

Love
Jun 08, 2008, 05:34 AM
I dont know if it works with the Java chat, but with IRC programs like mIRC it should work, you could just open a random channel and invite people silently for a private chat.

Ekolite
Jun 08, 2008, 05:38 AM
Pfft, msn is far better. You can talk to however many people you want at once, you can be having a conversation with person A and B and be having a private conversation just with person A at the same time, the GM can listen in etc. It really isn't difficult, its free, easy and you can just run it at the same time as you're on the forum. You can also block people you don't want to talk to, and it's so much more personal then the chat channels. I don't really see why people are so unwilling to use it.

Msn is overrated.

Niklas
Jun 08, 2008, 06:58 AM
MSN is a useful tool, no more no less. It's better than some other IMs in some regards, worse in others. But I still vastly prefer it, and IMs in general, over chatrooms. That is for the case where conversations with a few is the norm, which it is for NotW, and where if you want to say something to a lot of people you use the thread.

Chatrooms are again a useful tool, if you're interacting with an entire community, and don't care exactly who it is you're talking to. I really don't see the need for that here, the thread should cover our needs in that regard.

thomas.berubeg
Jun 08, 2008, 09:51 AM
Msn doesn't work for me (something to do with my priveliges as a user (my dad's administrator on my copmuter, and doesn't let me put random stuff, which, unfortunately, means MSN))

I've tried Trillian, but vista doesn't seem to like it. I couldn't get it to work, even though it worked great on xp. Agree with Kol on using a separate account for it. The hotmail address we use is a spam address that we use for those sights where you don't want to give them your real address. Works great for that and IM'ing. Anyone needs to contact me just check my user profile and all IM contact info is listed. Feel free to add me or contact me.

Not to threadjack, but how does Trillian work? Do you have to have accounts everywhere, and it just puts them all in one place? Or can you use it without actually having Yahoo/MSN/AIM/etc?

LightFang
Jun 09, 2008, 04:09 PM
Trillian isn't, by itself, a protocol. It just takes multiple clients and integrates them so that you don't have to have 5 chat programs open at once.

So while you do need an MSN account, AIM account, ICQ, Jabber, Gtalk, or whatever, the beauty of Trillian is that it puts all of those same accounts under the same program, so it doesn't matter what client we're actually using -- it just goes through Trillian. Thus there is no big difference between chatting on MSN and AIM.

So while you do need an MSN account, AIM account, ICQ, Jabber, Gtalk, whatever,

Just to be clear, you don't need to have more then one. You can easily use Trillain with only one account, though that would be rather worthless. When I had it (can't seem to get it to work with vista) I only had a hotmail and yahoo account.

Introduction

The day was warm in the lands of the Hippus nomads, with the heat of the sun broken only by an occasional breeze. Silent and empty plains lay uninhabited in all directions, and there were no signs of habitation in evidence anywhere.

So the man walking through the desert was somewhat of an oddity, somewhat out of place. His clothing was ripped and torn in multiple places, and bright blue eyes shined out of his face. Eyes like those could not be found for miles, not until you reached the sea.

The man seemed to tire from the desert heat, and drew to a halt. When he gazed out towards the sky, a bit of blood was revealed on his tunic. This was especially odd because he had no wound, it could not be his blood. He dropped a small satchel that he carried at his side, revealing a glint of gold and a small figurine for a moment. Grunting, he kicked the bag into the desert. It was of no use to him anymore.

Having taken a short break the man continued on his journey. He was not headed back to his native lands, or more aptly seas. No, he was sure to be a dead man should he return. Instead, he was heading to a place of his own making, his last refuge as it were. On this next journey though, he would have no help to travel, so he moved quickly. Capture would bring swift death.

With so much walking left to be done, the man allowed his mind to detach. His thoughts turned to the statue and gold that he had retrieved. His pursuers could not have realized what he had done. They did not know the secrets of the statue, and with luck they would never learn them. When combined with gold……it brought considerable power.

One week Later

Finally, after a long trek, the man breached the endless desert and arrived at a small Hippus village. It appeared deserted, its inhabitants having left long ago. The village was familiar to its visitor. He had seen it before, on his last trip to the place. Shivering slightly, the man walked into a house seemingly at random. He looked around quickly, as if searching for something. Eventually, he located a small cabinet and opened it, adding the contents to a small bag that he had acquired.

With his work done, the man sat down on the floor and went to sleep, in preparation for the final segment of his journey.

In the middle of the night, a sound awoke him. The sound of creaking floorboards, as if somebody else was in the house. The man stirred abruptly, and grabbed a small silver knife from his belt. He moved quickly towards the door, and then hid at the side, waiting…waiting….

The door opened slowly, and the silhouette of a man appeared in the room. Without hesitation, the traveler grabbed his mouth, and stabbed him through the neck. With that the intruder let out a final breath and toppled to the floor, spilling his red blood onto the floorboards. Having disposed of the threat for the moment, the man took a cursory glance at the man’s face. The identity of the man he had killed came as somewhat of a shock, but he knew that he would have to deal with him eventually. A similar search through the man’s pockets revealed a small piece of paper, with his picture on it. Next to the picture were the words “Bounty: 30 000 pounds of gold”.

This disturbing piece of information robbed the man of any chance of sleep. He heard others outside in the village, and he had to be away. His deck was not an empty one, and if his pursuers followed him into his sanctuary he could finish them, but not here, not now.

It was time to be off thought the traveler, who also went by another name. He was also called Captain Pinman Riverking, formerly of the now shipwrecked Nightingale, and a priest of the Ashen Veil.

Here is the deal:

Having consulted with several players of Dissensions, as well as its GM Tolis, I have decided that we need to put off this NoTW for a while. This is to ensure the continued success of Dissensions, an amazing game, and my NoTW, as a splitting of focus between two very large games would not be a good thing for either. (Dissensions requires alot of time, and so does this NoTW) Its also very important to ensure that Dissensions retains total commitment from its players, which thanks to its exciting nature it has so far, as it could spawn a revival of the fantastic S&F series.

I myself have been so involved in dissensions over the past four days that I couldn't finish my work for this NoTW in any event. For those interested, I fought a battle with Nahkarma here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6980858&postcount=218) and won.

Now obviously this puts the 3 or so players who do not play Dissensions at a disadvantage, and I do apologize.:( However, this is one spot still open if you want to get in on the great action.

As to when this will start, that will depend on how long they keep me alive over there. (Just Kidding:mischief:) Realistically, i'd have to say at least a week and a half, at most three weeks. It depends.
