View Full Version : Why am I declaring war?
Toast Jun 07, 2008, 10:41 PM I'm not sure exactly what's going on, but every time I try to grant independence to my colonies on a distant continent, I wind up declaring war against one of my rivals.
I conquered the Arabs, who were alone on a small continent. The upkeep was killing me, so I granted them independence... which somehow causes me to declare war on th Romans. I'm not sure what's happening. I click 'grant independence', then the trumpet sounds and I'm at war - and I'm the one who initiated it. The Romans have the Zulus as vassals, but everybody is at peace.
What's going on?
JujuLautre Jun 07, 2008, 11:37 PM I think you play without the unofficial patch. If not, install it, then replay the situation to see if it changes anything.

There's a bug in patch 3.13 that sometimes causes a declaration of war whenever anyone creates a Colony. As mentioned, Bhruic's unofficial patch fixes this. If I understand it correctly, what happens is that if a civ is eliminated in the game there's a chance that it can come back as a colony later, still in a state of war. That results in an automatic declaration. Bhruic's patch prevents civs that have already been in the game from being respawned, only those that have never been used can be created, thus avoiding this situation.
Desert-Fox Jun 08, 2008, 03:09 AM It is not the same reason but if AI gets bad wedding event and he chooses -3 for you then you automatically declare war on him:D

Thanks! Is this the correct one - Unofficial BTS 3.13 supplementary patch (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=7301)?
Also, slightly o/t, but in my search, I also came across Enhanced Cultural Decay (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=706), which is sounds like it corrects one of my biggest annoyances (I've taken to razing neighboring cities that I don't want to take over, which seems like a waste). Do I install as per the instructions, except using the BTS folder instead of Warlords (which I don't have)? This would actually be my first mod installed.
KaytieKat Jun 08, 2008, 10:03 AM Hi
Since that enhanced decay patch was designed for warlords I dont think it will work installing it in bts. Also BH's supplementary patch has some nice things but also be sure to use BH's main unnoficial patch too. The supplementary patch has some files you place in your custom assets folder while the main patch is .dll file you switch out with the default game .dll.

No, that's not it. That's just some additional screens as KaytieKat described, not the patch itself. Just look at the top of the forum, there's a stickied thread for the unofficial patch there that will take you the file.

I can't help you there as I've never even heard of it before.
Toast Jun 08, 2008, 03:36 PM Thanks for the help, everybody; I'll download and see how it goes.
