View Full Version : Caravans from barb camps
Thunderfall Jun 08, 2008, 09:23 PM On Warlord level in the demo, I often receive Caravan unit from attacking barbarian camps. I found it to be an excellent exploration unit since it has 3 moves and can enter other Civs territory.
By using it as an exploration unit, you can make additional money by discovering landmarks, 15 gold here and 10 gold there. After you done exploring with it, move it into an AI city to sell the goods. :gold: :)
PS: 1st strat thread! :)
lutzj Jun 08, 2008, 09:34 PM No offense TF, but it's unfair for you, of all people, to brag about having the first post in a new forum...
I like caravans too, especially since gold is so important in CivRev (for roads, commerce milestones/victory, etc.).
johnny_rico Jun 09, 2008, 11:51 AM That's what I was using them for as well.
Snerk Jun 09, 2008, 05:11 PM I've only had one or two caravans in my two games with the demo, and it didnt occur to me to do any exploring with them. But i'll keep it in mind when i get the full game.

that also makes it useful for directing military units to barbarian or oppenent soil.

That strategy may not hold up in the full game. I'm assuming that once we can slide up the difficulty past Warlord that the barbarians will actually leave their camps.
RFHolloway Jun 10, 2008, 07:43 AM Reminds me of using a scientific great leader for exploration in civ III (with no Barbs!)

Actually even on the Demo second difficulty level the barbarians will attack outside of their camp if your in a tile right next to their camp. I lost a caravan this way:cry:...just make sure you don't end the caravan's turn right next to one!:goodjob:

I have seen this as well, but only when the camp hold three or more units. If it's two or less I can set a caravan right next to the camp forever and they won't come out to attack it.
dshirk Jun 10, 2008, 12:58 PM Past the Warlord level, you will see Barbarians leaving their camp frequently. In addition, your caravan might get stolen by raiders if it lingers too long far away from your Civ. If you happen to be at war with another Civ, they will also not think twice about stealing it from you.
I will also use it for exploring, but try to keep to the hills so I can see what's coming. :)

Yep, is very easy using the caravan in chieftain, but in warlord and up the barbs usually stole u caravan.
