ok, so it was modern age and I was at war with Germany and I was China.
My capitol was on a decent sized penninsula, but it was the only city I had left, I had 4 marines, 2 infantry, 1 tank, and 1 artilery, but I was clobered by the German panzers and then their infantry finished me off.
Does anyone have any tips for that kind of situation I mignt face later:confused:

Germanymaster,
So many details are missing from your scenario that I don't know how to begin to properly answer you.

Well first of all, don't freaking let them take you down to 1 city. That was your obvious major mistake.

The details that are missing:
Which type of military units do you have access to?
Which type of military units do they have access to?
Do you have any wonders left?
What about a national wonders?
How are your diplomatic relations with your enemy?
Can you bribe them out of the war?
How are your diplomatic relations with the rest of the world?
Can you bribe them to attack your enemy?
What type of civics are you running?
What type of resources do you have?
Can you trade for anything useful (oil or uranium)?
How about the terrain around you?
Can you choke them?
Can you defend on a hill?
What about a forest? Or a forrested hill?
How many cities does your enemy have?
Do you have any settled general?
A military academy?
How much experience are your fresh units producing?
Which Chinese leader are you? (Are you protective?)
The list goes on and on and on. Each one of those tidbits of info can influence if you should build a few tanks for attacking (not protective, grassland surrounding your city) or a few anti-artilery for defending (protective with hills surrounding.) Or maybe you can bribe him to stop the way (if you have a tech lead) or maybe bribe someone else to attack him (positive diplomatic relations with someone else.) Etc. Etc. Etc.

Hmm, I think you are missing an option:
"Realize the game is lost, retire, and start another".

option 1 means to best try diplomacy and keep the civ running for at least a bit more
