Before anybody asks, no, I am NOT abandoning the First Reich story(I've created a backup file for good measure). I've actually been playing El Justo's AWESOME Age of Imperialism Map on the sidelines, as none other than the German Empire. I've always wanted to try the American position, but never got to. This will be a second thread. Taniciusfox presents to you:

Pax Americana - The Culmination of Manifest Destiny!

Week 1:

Week 1 found the United States halfway into Grover Cleveland's term.

Congress decides that managing the colonial outposts around Hawaii must come first, and so decides to pursue the arts of Colonial Administration. It is then found the British Empire is willing to tell us the secrets, and so we purchase them. We go around selling how to produce Protected Cruisers and Colonial Administration, nearly doubling our monthly income, while disrupting potential British trading oppurtunities. THAT, is capitalism.

Otherwise, Week 1 is uneventful.

Week 5:

In the IBT, Britain signs a mutual protection pact with the Phillipine Natives. Okayyyy...The Filipinos then have then have the nerve to come to the USA for an MPP. We reject it immediately.

More worrying is the Franco-British pact...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1FrancoBritishPact.jpg

France also aligns itself with the Balkans. This has disaster written all over it...

The US Navy is sent further south near Cuba, in fear of a European War. To keep the Spanish informed of good intentions, an Open Borders agreement is signed, with a slight cost for Spain, of course.

The spirit of American imperialism had been growing. Ever since the demise of the frontier, Americans were fearful, for the Frontier represented oppurtunities to them all. Without it, imperialistic ideas began to grow in strength, and the annexation of Hawaii was an example. Treaties were negotiated with the colonial powers for open door policies, and several Americans quietly eyed the decaying Spanish Caribbean. Grover Cleveland was a staunch anti-imperialist, but under pressure from Congress, reluctantly supported one of the most significant moves in American history: the Second Mexican-American war.

Mexico was a wealthy country, but the wealth was poorly distributed. A small elite hogged the majority of the gross national product. To appeal to the more left-wing, anti-imperialist elements of American society, the Republicans proclaimed that the invasion would serve to eliminate Mexico's corrupt government, and redistribute the wealth. Capitalists would be happy at an influx of cheap labor to power their factories.

Mexico has a tiny army. Along Baja California, the tiny towns of La Paz and Santa Rosalia each field 2,000 poorly trained militia troops. (Each health bar = 1,000 units) The American navy also wanted control of Baja California so they could cut a canal through the center, and thus have access to Mexico proper. The cities of Hermosillo, Monterrey, and Guadalajara were no different, each fielded 2,000 militia troops. Mexico City was different - it had an 8,000 man militia, which was excellently trained on the defense(City Guard). The War Planners agreed to mark the new border north of Mexico City.

With all these plans in place, Grover Cleveland called up the President of Mexico, and briefly told them their countries were now at war.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5MexicanAmericanWar.jpg

For the massive invasion, 16,000(4) cavalry, and 30,000(5) US Infantry, were called up to fight. With the element of surprise and high mobility, it was expected the American Army would "liberate" Mexico.

Without casualty, the Texas-based army struck at Monterrey. Insignificant casualties resulted from the short skirmish.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5MonterreyFalls.jpg

Hermosillo fell next. The Mexican militia used guerilla tactics to kill or injure 1,000 American troops, but it was still a victory for the American people.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Hermosillo.jpg

From Los Angeles, 6,000 American Infantry struck at Santa Rosalia. Almost no casualties were suffered, and part of the Mexican navy was sunk. Further attacks were sent against the Mexican countryside, and a band of Mexican Civil Engineers was forcefully disbanded by the bayonet. Guadalajara was taken with no casualties, and the Mexican coal deposits were now in American hands.

Not too long after, La Paz fell in Baja California, marking American domination of the peninsula. In only a month, the American armies had taken over most of Mexico, and the capital was within our grasp. Only a shortage of troops prevented an all-out assault.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5LaPaz.jpg

The Mexican Nation would get a short breather, while the President asked for more troops.

Week 9:

In the IBT, Austria-Hungary signs an embargo against us. Not like they can really use it, seeing as there's no sea trade...

The Mexican Wooden Screw Frigate tries to sink one of our conscript small cruisers, but it is sunk itself. The Mexican navy is declared defeated.

The Lowland Countries try to obtain a mutual protection pact...and charge US for it. Not a chance, Leopold. Go oppress some natives in the Congo.

9 weeks into the year 1895, skirmishes are occuring outside Mexico City. A force of 6,000 heavily-armed city Guards protects the capital of Mexico. They are faced by 44,000 soldiers, mostly American Infantry. A band of 4,000 marines is injured, but it retreats, leaving the Mexico Garisson at 3,000 men. At the loss and injury of 3,000 Cavalry, the Mexico City Guard is defeated. In it's place is a very undertrained militia - 1,000 men.

At no casualties, 2 bands of militia are defeated, and Mexico City falls.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week9MexicoCity.jpg

The defeated Mexican government flees to Cancun in Yucatan. With this, the American victory is at hand. Compounding the flight is the fall of Villa Hemosa. Cancun is the last independent city in Mexico.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week9VillaHemosa.jpg

18,000 Infantry and 16,000 Cavalry were deployed in the jungles of Yucatan, poised to invade and swipe Cancun.

Week 13:

In the IBT, Russia joins Mexico in it's trade embargo against us. Mexico is not exactly bright when picking allies...

Cancun is attacked, and 3,000 cavalry are injured. But there are no more troops, so it is captured.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13CancunFalls.jpg

..And by extension:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13MexicoDestroyed.jpg

While President Cleveland informs the public he was opposed to the war, he nonetheless capitalises on it's success. He and Congress draft up a new plan to create the "Mexico Provisional State", until a final status is achieved. Mexico maintains a seperate government, but a lot of it's abilities - such as taxes and defense - fall under the jurisdiction of the United States. The President remains opposed to annexation of Mexico, but the Imperialist faction is growing in strength, talking about how annexing Mexico would strengthen the economy and provide for better security. The American economy's growing strength as a result of it's puppet state just proves their point.

But just as the Mexico Provisional State is founded, Republicans in Congress want to continue further gains while they still can. A quick look at the Central American region showed that they possessed a mere 10,000 troops all together. The government aims for Guatemala city - defended by 2,000 militia.

Cleveland opposes the Congress once again, but he is overwhelmed by their vote. The United States goes to war with Guatemala.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13CentralAmericaWar.jpg

As a result, the other Central American states join them in their defense.

At no cost to American soldiers, Guatemala falls. The United States then decides to launch an assault on Tegucigalpa, the capital of the Central American coalition. The hills slowed down the soldiers sufficiently enough the capital would survive for another month.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Conquests.jpg

The President - a staunch non-interventionist as mentioned before - does approve a peaceful measure - a trans-North American railway. Mexico's conquest and underdevelopment meant that in order to effectively defend such a long strip of territory, railways would need to be in order. The route is to go from Houston to Monterrey, where it will join up with a pre-existing rail which leads to Mexico City. From there, the railway will head south to Guatemala and Villa Hemosa.

Within a month, one can travel by railway from New York to Mexico City without having to use a road.

The President's First Quarter has excellent reviews - 96% approval rating - the highest of any leader in the world.

Week 17:

In the IBT, Japan signs an embargo with Central America against the United States. Spain joins in. The Central American navy tries to sink American vessels, but horribly fails.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week17RussianDemands.jpg

Russia demands 100 gold as well. The President does not wish for the Russians to reclaim Alaska, so he complies with Congressional consent. The United States is far too busy siezing territory, and does not want to fight a war over Alaska. Grover Cleveland lets the Russians off with a warning that the USA will not back down a second time.

The American naval vessels Stiletto, Baltimore, Newark, and San Francisco arrive off Tegucigalpa. They all open fire immediately. They all miss.

6,000 American soldiers die besieging Tegucigalpa - but they wear down the defenders to 3,000 capable soldiers. Another 4,000 Cavalrymen die, but Tegucigalpa's garrison is brought down to 2,000. 10,000 more troops die, and Tegucigalpa's garrison is brought down to 1,000 City Guards. They are killed without casualties.

At the price of 1,000 injured soldiers, the United States crushes Tegucigalpa's remaining defenders - the primitive militia. The Central Americans are doomed. 29,000 troops are then sent to the mountains north of Managua, the last Central American city.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week17Tegucigalpa.jpg

The railway is also added further on, and the route to Villa Hemosa is almost complete.

"Remember Tegucigalpa!" becomes a rallying cry for the war, as 20,000 troops died trying to capture it. Many Americans had trouble saying it, due to underexposure to foreign languages.

Week 21:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21Managua.jpg

With only 1,000 American casualties, the last city of Central America falls.

The American Imperialists are (temporarily) sated, and choose not to attack the small, isolated city of Panama(under Colombian control) to the south as we have a right of passage with it's owners.

To stir the waters further though, the USS Baltimore is ordered to block the Panama Canal Route. This causes international outcry - forcing many vessels to go around Canada or South America on the Trans-Ocean Route - but nobody wishes to go to war over a trivial issue. At the same time, a new canal is dug near Managua - allowing the United States to go between oceans with ease.

The President commissions workers to be trained in Hawaii, then sent to the homeland - which is in desperate need of public works with it's extended territories.

Taniciusfox

Week 25:

In the IBT, New Grenada tells us to get out of the Panama Canal. The President complies, and the world smiles as the USS Baltimore withdraws.

Austria-Hungary comes wanting a right of passage and mutual protection pact, but we decline. We do however negotiate for Field Guns.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25AustriaAgreement.jpg

Germany desires a mutual protection pact, but the United States' isolationist policy forces us to decline.

In the homeland, many factories are constructed. The government places an emphasis on increasing production in the homelands, to reap the full benefits of an expanded nation.

The railroad route to Guatemala is also nearly complete. Congress tells the American people that one day railways will stretch from Maine all the way to Panama.

Having a large treasury of 13,717 gold, and a yearly income of nearly 20,000 gold, the government decides to pour some funds into the economy. 980 units are spent to pay overtime workers in the construction of factories - especially in Central America.

Week 29:

In the IBT, Tibet of all backward places come to us for a Mutual Protection Pact. We reject, but sell them a right of passage for 4 gold per turn and 11 gold.

Congress decides to commission new vessels for the relatively weak American navy - the Indiana class battleships. (18 attack, 20 defense, 5 movement) 5 are to be produced by the city of Philadelphia.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25Navy.jpg

The government spends extra funds to train Volunteer Infantry on Midway and Wake Island. Plans are also made to establish naval bases in California, to supplement a new West Coast fleet of Indiana Class Battleships.

Taniciusfox
Jun 18, 2008, 08:31 AM
Week 33:

The United States North American Railway is almost complete. The city of Tegucigalpa is added to the network, and additions further south towards Managua are begun. Once completed, the rail-line will be extended to the border with Colombian-controlled Panama.

The first raw materials unit is produced in Honolulu. The American government sends transports to pick it up - it will take 3 months time to reach the Hawaiian islands from San Francisco.

Besides that, the year continues to fly by uneventfully for the Pan-American nation.

Week 37:

IBT, Japan comes for a mutual protection pact. We have the same reaction as always and refuse - but agree to a right of passage. They pay us 48 gold for it.

As factories begin to dominate American cities, the President and Congress work together to build harbors. Navy facilities are also approved to be constructed throughout the American nation - and also in it's more distant provinces.

Managua is linked up to the North American railway, and a final segment is due to be added in the coming weeks. Congress approves government spending across the board.

Mass-production of factories, harbors and even marketplaces and banks comes to a total of 880 gold paid out by the government. The constant re-investment of funds is poised to make the United States a big player on the world level.

A third quarter evaluation of the President's approval rating yields 94 percent...not as high as before, but President Cleveland remains a popular leader by far.

Taniciusfox
Jun 18, 2008, 09:01 AM
Week 41:

IBT, the French come for a mutual protection pact...the AI seems to not learn how the Cleveland Administration desires isolation. The pact with France is rejected. We do not even bother signing a right of passage.

Naval bases and facilities are finished far ahead of schedule thanks to last month's government-sponsored payments. With the East Coast rapidly deploying a fleet, a Western fleet is also seen as crucial to Hawaii's defenses. San Francisco is commissioned to construct 5 Indiana Class Vessels of it's own.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week41Railway.jpg

The Pan American railway is completed. The United States can now effortlessly shuttle soldiers throughout the country as needed.

The President and Congress then sign a new plan to build railways to every major city - to connect every city together and aid in defense and further prosperity. 80 percent of the public workers are sent north, while some remain in Central America to improve the region's infrastructure.

The President breaks down the numbers like this:

1 for Central America, 2 for Mexico, 3 for the United States proper.

Congress also mandates that thanks to warm relations with Britain(and by extension Canada), the United States build a road from isolated Seward in Alaska to Dawson in Canada - thus linking it up with the many rich resources of the mainland.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week41AlaskaRailway.jpg

Week 45:

154 gold is expended on Wake Island and Midway Island to train Colonial conscripts. Once they perform their duties on the islands, they will be shipped back to the homeland. Roads are built to resource deposits throughout American-held Latin America, and mine construction is scheduled to begin.

Week 49:

China comes to the USA for a mutual protection pact. We send them away. The United States has approved a 1 percent of GDP(currently 1939 a month) for the foreign aid budget... so the government gives them foreign aid amounts of 19 gold. This is to help China re-inforce itself against European aggression.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49ChinaTrade.jpg

The last Indiana is produced in Philadelphia. The East Coast's navy is now far larger, and boasts excellent ships to protect American interests. Naval construction is halted to allow the refinement of Law Enforcement. The Republicans in Congress believe this will keep anti-war protests low when they march to war against New Granada.

1896

Week 1:

Grover Cleveland's term is nearing it's end. In the ninth week of 1897, elections will be held.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1ColonialAdmin.jpg

The United States discovers Colonial Administration II. This enables the production of cavalry abroad.

3 Raw Materials units are delivered to San Francisco. The treasury increases by 300 gold. Most of the funds are expended to construct a winery in the same city.

Hundreds of units of gold are expended to rush naval bases in San Diego and Guadalajara. Factories and railroad terminals are rushed in Mexico, in preparation for a railway linking all of Mexico.

Week 5:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5LaPlataDeal.jpg

IBT, La Plata(Peru, Paraguay and Bolivia) comes for a mutual protection pact. We instead negotiate a small treaty where they pay us 120 gold over time for a right of passage.

To aid in the growth of the North American economy, stock exchanges are scheduled to be constructed in every major city. Mexico is also nearing integration with the United States.

Taniciusfox
Jun 18, 2008, 03:12 PM
Week 9:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week9TheoryofRelativity.jpg

We recieve word that Albert Einstein has published his Theory of Relativity in Munich, Germany. Hearing the info is of no real use to the American people at this juncture.

Besides the mass-construction of naval bases in Central America, this year is marked by the admission of several Mexican states to the Union. The number is kept low - conservatives do not want foreigners having a major slice of American policies.

In total, Mexico had 31 states and the Federal district. 7 of these were taken and turned into 5 states - Baja California(I), Sonora(II), Chihuahua(III), Coahuila(IV), and New Leon(V). Cleveland is opposed to annexation as usual, but the Republican majority in Congress overrules him.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week9MexicanStates.jpg

The Mexican Provisional state was merged with all the occupied Central American countries, creating the Central American Provisional State. The same legal framework was achieved - primarily independent, but with a shared foreign policy, military and executive branch with the United States.

Week 13:

Raw materials are produced in the colonies, but otherwise nothing major occurs.

Week 17:

Nothing nothing nothing. Just workers completing jobs and standard procedures. We also notice Panama has a Colombian riflemen now. No matter - we have plenty of ships to test it.

Week 21:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21BalkansTrade.jpg

IBT, the Balkans come for a mutual protection pact. Ugh...the AI never learns. We do see if we can sell the Maxim Gun to them though. Republicans in Congress take note that within 8 weeks, all agreements with New Grenada will expire.

Taniciusfox
Jun 18, 2008, 03:17 PM
Week 25:

Once again, a fool comes asking for a treaty. The USA refuses, but does buy the secrets of Pre-Dreadnoughts from Spain.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25SpainTrade.jpg

Britain comes with an interesting "treaty."

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25BritainExtortion.jpg

The British demand 100 gold, much like the Russians before them. Congress agrees, but says that next time, Britain won't be so lucky. The United States is far too busy eyeing the Caribbean and South America to fight over Canada.

The British reply:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25BritainGestures.jpg

Ohhhh, the US will give them a gesture alright. But it won't be friendly. It involves a finger and is considered extremely rude.

The United States de facto adopts the Gold Standard.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week29GoldStandard.jpg

In this week, there is a large market panic, as it is discovered that nearly a third of annual income comes from overseas. Most of this income is due to dry up within a month. The United States decides to go around and put it's large budget to use...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25Loans.jpg

Russia pays us 20 gpt for 390 gold. Austria-Hungary pays us 20 gpt of 389 gold. The American panic ceases, temporarily. The expected arrival of raw materials in the homeland also decreases any panic.

Week 29:

The time had come for the next phase of American expansion. The isolated city of Panama was crying out for America to liberate it from the Colombian yoke. Grover Cleveland was - for the third time in his administration - forced to bring a war that Congress demanded, as part of his Presidential responsibility to the people.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week29AmericaNewGrenadaWar.jpg

Indeed, there was a war they were not aware of - the war with the United States.

Panama's garrison was wounded, and the Colombian oppressors were disposed of. Militiamen had to take the defensive, as the United States catered to it's 2,000 casualties. With no further casualties, Panama City was captured, and the United States's territory included every part of North America besides the Caribbean and Canada.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week29Panama.jpg

The city of Caracas - in Venezuela - was attacked. The Naval Academy of New Grenada was destroyed in the attacks. It's defenders were heavily wounded, and Marines attacked from the sea. Though 4,000 men were lost in the ensuing battle, Caracas was left barely standing - a band of militia protected it.

In the state of Baja California, two bands of Colonial workers arrive, with some raw materials. The raw materials are sent to be processed in San Francisco.

Taniciusfox
Jun 18, 2008, 03:21 PM
Week 33:

The USA tears up it's right of passage agreements with the Filipinos and the Hispaniolas.

Spain signs an embargo against us with New Grenada.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week33Caracas.jpg

With almost no casualties, the United States captures Caracas. The downfall of New Grenada becomes apparent.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week33CiudadBolivar.jpg

With 5,000 dead Cavalrymen and 4,000 infantry casualties, we reduce Ciudad Bolivar to militiamen. We capture it with only 1,000 casualties. The American government rechristens it Bolivar City.

Week 37:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week37AustroBritishPact.jpg

In the IBT, Austria-Hungary aligns with the Franco-British-Balkan block. Poor Germany, all alone.

We also buy Colonial Admin III from Germany for 1600 gold. (We are boycotting Britain)

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week37MedallinFalls.jpg

American troops besiege Medallin. 3,000 casualties are sustained, but all the Colombian riflemen are disposed of. 4,000 more casualties, and Medallin was in American hands.

The ambitions United States Army then proceed to go against the capital - Bogota. The powerful City Guard militia protected it. At high casualties - 15,000 wounded or killed - the capital of Colombia fell. New Grenada ceased to exist, as Ecuador was all that was left.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week37QuitoFalls.jpg

4,000 died to kill the main defenders of Quito, Ecuador. After that, no men died defeating the last bastion of New Grenada. Colombia, Panama, Ecuador, Venezuela, and even parts of British Guiana were all now in American hands.

The player discovers that Bogota has an Industrialization resource under it for some reason. Plans are made for there to be a handicap - no homeland troops in Colombia or all of South America.

It took only 3 months, but the United States had greatly enlarged it's territories, and now could fully enforce the Monroe doctrine on all of South America.

The Gatling Gun is the US's main advantage in the early game. While the AI has to wait for the Maxim Gun tech to build machine guns, the USA can build them right from the get go. It's a normal unit, 4 or 5 attack, 12 defense. :) Also with bombardment capability, if extremely limited.

Week 41:

In the IBT, Brazil says the USA "bestrides the globe like a Colossus" and asks for a mutual protection pact and right of passage. The USA grants them a right of passage, but refuses to negotiate a mutual protection pact.

Seward was linked to Dawson last turn, but was not reported. Seward, Alaska can now build a full line of naval vessels and units - at least until the Brits declare war.

Week 41 also sees a large buildup of American forces around Hispaniola.

Week 45:

President Cleveland is once again drawn into a war by the opposition in Congress. The new target? Hispaniola. Just 2 months after conquering New Grenada and siezing control of the Panama Canal, the United States seeks to occupy/annex further territories.

President Cleveland makes the call - and hopes it's the last time he will do so during his administration.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week45HispaniolaWar.jpg

Against the 28,000 Dominican-Haitian coalition forces, stood 54,000 American soldiers, backed up by a sizeable naval force.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week45TroopsonHispaniola.jpg

Week 49:

In the IBT, Portugal signs an emargo against us. As does Austria-Hungary. Standard rights of passage are re-negotiated, often involving more gold per term being sent to the growing American state.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49IntelligenceAgency.jpg

The American Intelligence Agency is finally put together in Washington at the request of the Republican Party. It will enable the United States to observe countries while at war.

In Hispaniola, the American juggernaut prepares to eliminate the Haitian factions on the island. The powerful Virginia Class Battleships reduced Port Au Prince's main garrison of 14,000 men to a mere 4,000. At the cost of 3,000 casualties, that was reduced to 2,000 men. 1,000 City Guards took up the defense. We lost only 1,000 of our soldiers disposing of them. At no further casualties, the local militia was crushed, and the Republic of Haiti fell into American hands.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49PortAuPrince.jpg

The time then went to dispose of the Dominican half of the island. In the weeks after the fall of Port-Au-Prince, half of Hispaniola was taken over by American troops. The effective American occupation zone extended right to Santo Domingo's outskirts.

Santo Domingo's men were cut down to 6,000 from 14,000. With only 3,000 casualties, the entire garrison was massacred, and the United States took over Hispaniola.

Hispaniola's countries did not become a "provisional state". Hispaniola was instead turned into an overseas territory, and referred to as the "Commonwealth of Hispaniola."

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49HispaniolaAmerican.jpg

Cleveland sat in his office for the next 3 months, glad his term was nearly over. He tried and tried, yet Congress continued to go to war. His second term had seen the fall of Mexico, Central America's many countries, Colombia, Venezuela, and Ecuador. Finally, the Dominican Republic and Haiti had been merged into another conquered possession. Cleveland feared what his successor would do.

Yes, I tinkered with them. During the first era, most techs are available, but during the following ones, most are locked up. Mutual Protection Pacts were also added to help contain imperialism on one power's part - the British and French almost always align, for instance.

1897

Week 1:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1MostAdvanced.jpg

In the IBT, a man masquerading as "Pliny" publishes a volume of the most advanced nations in the world. The American regime is not amongst them.

We discover the Lowland Countries - a de facto entity created by the Belgians and Dutch in face of growing competition at home and abroad - has discovered 20th Century Medicine, AND Advanced Mining Techniques. The government goes to them for these technologies.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1TechTrade.jpg

During his last two months of office, President Cleveland faces a crisis on Cuba. The Cuban militias have taken up arms, and are waging war for control of their island. From their fortified city of Nuevitas, they command 1/4 of the island and a quarter of it's population. While abroad Cleveland is opposed to intervention, he has also changed the Monroe doctrine to imply that any matter in the Americas can have a potential American interest. Not wanting the Spanish regime to decay, the United States agrees to intervene - if it can recieve special concessions and priveleges on Cuba. Spain agrees. The United States goes to war with the Cuban rebellion, and deploys much of the army that had invaded Hispaniola.

The Rebellion employs an estimated 18,000 soldiers - including 6,000 highly-trained City Guards. The United States sends 18,000 infantry, and 17,000 cavalry. They were soon joined by 20,000 more troops from Mexico. The fact the Cuban soldiers had been worn down to 5,000 men by naval assault didn't help their chances.

Week 5:

In the IBT...Chile declares war on the United States!

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5ChileWar.jpg

They attack our new outposts in Colombia... with a single riflemen. The President assures the American people that the United States Army is more then a match for Chile.
France and Britain renew their mutual protection pact.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5MilitaryAcademy.jpg

The United States gains a military advantage - a National Military Academy is constructed in the capital. We can now field veteran homeland troops, which will put Chile on edge when we come for them.

On Cuba, the rebellion is dying. Thanks to starvation, 2/11 - nearly 20 percent - of the rebel troops have vanished.

With 2,000 casualties, we crush 3,000 Cuban troops, including their elite city guards. 3,000 more casualties, and Nuevitas falls. The Cuban rebellion is crushed. Spain's rule of Cuba is secure... until the United States sees fit to evict them.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5CubanConquests.jpg

Congress uses the threat of Chile to convince Cleveland to sign a mutual protection pact with Brazil, the (relatively) major power of South America. With it's central location, it is believed they could be of use to the American campaigns in South America.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5BrazilAlliance.jpg

As well, embargos are signed with all South American countries against Chile. Chile finds itself diplomatically and economically isolated. The United States also reviews it's budget.

Congress moves the foreign aid budget up to 3 percent. This allows money sent to other countries to equal a total of 109 units of gold per term. 19 units of gold per term are sent to our ally, Brazil.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5ArmyinChile.jpg

To aid in the war against Chile, the President dispatches an expeditionary force of 24,000 US infantry to South America. A spy network is also set up inside the country. The Chilean military's secrets are waiting to be discovered at the President's command. A force of 57,000 men - straight from Cuba - is also sent to South America. Within the next month, they will march to war against Chile.

Outside the city of Chuquicamata, 24,000 men entrenched themselves in the mountains, ready to sieze Chile's coal supplies.

Week 9:

IBT, Argentina wants a Protection Pact. We reject it, as we desire Chile for ourselves. We already have Brazil as an ally anyways.

On Inauguration Day - March 4 - the United States makes it's move, mere hours before President William McKinley takes office. 5,000 casualties were sustained to kill the Chilean riflemen at Chuquicamata. Unfortunately, we lack the force to conquer the city's hordes of militia. But the large army arriving from Brazil will allow us to change that next turn.

Besides hordes of troops arriving at the doorsteps of Chile, nothing else occurs.

Week 13:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week9BattlefieldMedicine.jpg

We complete Battlefield Medicine in St. Louis.

The battle of Chuquicamata resumes. With 2,000 more casualties, we slay the 3,000 man militia, and Chile loses one of it's towns to the United States. With the city comes the Chilean coal deposits.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Chuquicamata.jpg

The city is rechristened McKinleyville, in honor of the President.

4,000 Cavalry were sent south to Chanaral, where they disposed of the militia with ease.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Chanaral.jpg

The President then says we should continue the advance against the capital - Santiago. Santiago fields 6,000 City Guards, and 8,000 Chilean infantry. We have 58,000 cavalrymen to send against the city.

Despite 13,000 casualties, the City Guards are disposed of. 11,000 casualties later, the capital of Chile became part of the Chilean Provisional State. As a result of the Battle of Santiago, Chile has lost nearly half it's population, and at least a third of it's territory.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Santiago.jpg

With the ongoing victories, the President ordered an assault on Valdivia further south. If the city fell, the border between the Provisional State and Independent Chile would fall inside forests and hills, providing mutual security. 13,000 casualties later, the United States had disposed of it's main infantry force. Militiamen were a thorn in our side, as usual. With only 1,000 more casualties sustained, the USA took Valdivia, and the copper mines of Chile had fallen as well.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Valdivia.jpg

The President was willing to discuss peace with Chile, warning them Brazil could get involved, but they refused. Before considering peace again, he decided the United States should rob Chile of it's last valuable resource - oil. Arica along the border with La Plata had oil fields. Hills prevented any fast and rapid conquest - hence why the Army had avoided it in favor of a route to Santiago. The last forces of our army - 46,000 soldiers - were sent to the hills outside Arica.

Week 17:

In the IBT, Britain signs an embargo against us with Chile. Okay. The Chilean navy also moves towards Colombia.

We complete the Wright Brothers in Atlanta. As well, we get the long-awaited message:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week17BrazilChileWar.jpg

12,000 dead and 1,000 more casualties at Arica cause the city to fall into our hands. The President decides to halt our advance. The total amount of troops is now down to 79,000. The reason the number is larger then before, is because the United States has drawn upon resources from Hispaniola and the US Proper.

After learning Chile can only field 8,000 more soldiers thanks to our spies, the President resumes our assault. 49,000 troops are deployed to task Puerto Aisen, the new capital of Chile.

Week 21:

IBT, Germany signs an embargo against us. The President makes a note to be less friendly towards Germany.

More interestingly, World War I is about to begin:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21AustroRussianWar.jpg

With the Austro-Russian War, Britain will be dragged in alongside Austria, and this will in turn drag in the French. Russia is expected to be defeated, unless a miracle occurs - such as an alliance with Germany. The fact the Balkans and France have ended their alliance will help Russia's position against Austria-Hungary.

Congress notices that the US has a large empty foreign aid slot - 28 gold per term. Congress decides to send this to Russia - McKinley's administration is far less isolationist in nature. He fears the power of an enlarged Britain or France. Discovering they have technology to be traded, the United States trades for it instead - giving the Russians 1500 units of gold and 28 gold per term. We hope the cash injection will help Russia grow in strength.

With the war abroad settled, we look at the war at home - against Chile. 8,000 casualties were sustained to kill the 8,000 troops inside Puerto Aisen.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21PuertoAisen.jpg

31,000 soldiers are then sent against Punta Arenas - the last free Chilean city. Their "President" is likely regretting ever attacking the United States.

Week 25:

IBT, Spain signs an embargo against us with the soon-to-be-vaporised Chileans. As expected, France declares war on Russia as well. The war in Europe takes off full-swing.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25PuntaArenas.jpg

Punta Arenas falls with 3,000 casualties - to destroy 3,000 militiamen. The Chilean Provisional State is now simply called 'Chile', but is still de facto under American power.

A report shows that a city in central Siberia has been burned to the ground. But otherwise, the war in Eurasia shows no fruits.

Week 29:

In the IBT, TWO cities in East Siberia fall to France. Things are not looking good for Russia. But a blessing will come soon - in 7 turns/months, all British-American agreements expire, and Canada shall be invaded, occupying the British Empire's time.

President McKinley says the United States must take a stand in the international stage to keep the world from spiraling out of control. He goes around and gets Germany to put an embargo against the French and British.

The President also goes to Germany for a treaty of mutual defense - bringing the United States into the European picture. Isolationists oppose the action, but it is necessary for the USA to get involved in a war that could destroy the balance of power.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week29GermanAmericanAlliance.jpg

Week 33:

In the IBT, President McKinley recieves a shocking message:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week33PlansStolen.jpg

Fearing someone might attack the United States, he orders the mobilization of the entire country for war. This also supplements his planned attack on Canada.

He also hears the Argentines have tried to start up a spy network in Washington. The spies are all rounded up and executed.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week33SpyCaught.jpg

There is a huge military buildup in the homeland, as troops are recalled from South America in large numbers. The Canadian garrisons will have their hands full in half a year.

Week 37:

IBT, Uruguay comes to the US for a mutual protection pact. Since we are already aligned with Brazil - an ally of Uruguay's - we refuse. We must also reserve alliances for major players... such as those in Europe. Besides increased military buildups, nothing else occurs.

Week 41:

IBT, the American Spy Network in Vienna is shut down by the Austro-Hungarian forces. We intend to restart the network soon. In Russia, the Russians continue their advance against the French. The French have lost one of the two cities they captured, and we expect the fall of their last occupied city - Yakutsk - by the time of the British-American War.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week41FrancoRussianWar.jpg

Dull dull dull. Nothing else occurs.

Week 45:

IBT, Nicholas II comes begging the USA for a mutual protection treaty. We reject. Soon Nicholas, soon. Shortly after our refusal, the city of Yakutsk falls into Russian hands. We hope Russia will be fit to go on an offensive against Austria soon.

We also buy Submarine technology from Russia. We hope that the prevalance of invisible units around the board will soon go up - triggering massive wars.

Week 49:

In the IBT, Germany makes a wise investment, and aligns with Portugal, which on the colonial front in Africa neighbors them in many places. This will aid in the coming world war.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49PortugalGermanyAlliance.jpg

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. In a few turns, World War I shall break out.

Week 1:

Austria and Russia sign a peace treaty IBT. Unfortunately, the continuing war with the other powers will keep Russia from getting a breather. Somebody tries to take Caracas via propoganda. They fail, of course. But the President is worried, and tightens security measures with Congressional approval.

The military buildup continues. Next month, the United States will go to war once again.

Week 5:

IBT, Austria-Hungary comes for a mutual protection pact, but we can't allow that. Soon, Russia will go to war with Europe once more, and we require Russia as an ally. France and Italy also align themselves with a pact. This makes the Allies as: Britain, France, Italy, and Austria-Hungary. We expect to bring in Germany, Russia, and Portugal.

Once again, somebody tries to take Caracas via propoganda. It fails.

Upon reviewing world diplomacy, Congress finds out that Austria-Hungary is NOT aligned with the Franco-British bloc anymore. Austria-Hungary is expected to be a neutral power. We go to the Russians to sign a pact with them.

President McKinley asks for a declaration of war against Britain shortly afterwards, and they accept. World War I is about to begin:

The Allies: the British Empire, France, Italy
The Coalition: the USA, Russia, Germany, Portugal

--- Review of Resources ---

Before marching off to war, McKinley looks at his resources.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5DominationStats.jpg

The USA and it's 'allies'(conquered countries, provisional states) control 10% of the world's land, and 14% of it's population. The whole British Empire, by contrast, has 20 percent of the world's land, and 21 percent of it's population.

The 'power' measurements show a great deal of difference between the USA and Britain's power, but the British strength is spread out over the world - an edge we have.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5PowerBar.jpg

President McKinley's third research report says that he has the world's highest approval rating - 81% -, the second strongest economy, and the greatest income per capita in the world.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Military.jpg

For his final report, he evaluates the number of soldiers currently in his employ. The estimate is at 876,000, not counting small reserves and units to be trained. The British Army by contrast, employs well over 2,000,000 men. 1/10 of their soldiers are located in Canada. President McKinley knows that Canada will be an uphill battle, but he calls up the British Prime Minister...

Hope you have an impressive navy.

As the strategy guide says, Britain tends to have a weakness in terms of regional superiority... the USA has tons of battleships, so local superiority shouldn't be an issue... we've also got a few subs to make the seas hell for British vessels. :) Our ally in Germany will help greatly in occupying British forces... the forces of Portugal and Russia will also prove a nuisance.

That's more or less how my old game with the US was with Britain at war with Germany when I declared war and invaded Canada. I had a massive navy in the Atlantic and I had no problem holding off the British for a good long time. The problem was that it was just a constant stream of King Edwards in stacks of four coming at me every single turn and it got to the point where I simply couldn't keep fighting them as I didn't have enough ships that were fit to fight as I had no time to repair them at ports. But that was far enough in that by the time the strain was getting bad I had already made my conquests in the pacific, caribbean and in Canada.

One thing I noticed is that almost all of Britains ships seemed to funnel into Bermuda first before heading towards my holdings, and I was able to keep them held down their by bombarding the living hell out of the place.

Week 5 continued - World War I:

The First World War begins in Canada. The cities of Vancouver and Toronto are marked for capture by the US government. The plan is to sieze these key points - they offer direct access for British forces to the US's industrial centers.

Toronto is attacked first. At 6,000 casualties, the City Guard is disposed of. With many more casualties, the garrison is defeated, and Toronto falls.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Toronto.jpg

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5VancouverFalls.jpg

Vancouver falls with a good deal of casualties. However, some of Canada's artillery - and a British submarine - are destroyed in the conquest. With Vancouver conquered, we plan to attack Alberta.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Calgary.jpg

Calgary is taken right after Vancouver with more casualties. Nobody in the city resists - it seems the Canadians are learning it's better to embrace the American Empire rather then resist it.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Winnipeg.jpg

Winnipeg fell next. With the fall of Winnipeg, the Canadian road system is split into three areas. The hills and forests between it and the other nearby cities prevent quick enemy movement, securing the region. We are then free to go against Ottawa, the capital.

Further east and south is the city of Thunder Bay - the last stop from Western Canada to Ottawa. With it's small garrison, we intend to sieze it. Doing so will enable us to apply pressure to Ottawa from 2 fronts. Thunder Bay, of course, falls to the American army.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5ThunderBay.jpg

Further south, in the Caribbean, a force of marines works with our navy to capture Jamaica. Within a week, Kingston falls, and Jamaica - one of the last British bastions in the Americas - becomes a new American province.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Kingston.jpg

The United States Army assaults Ottawa - capital of British Canada - next. We lose 20,000 men that day, and gain 21,000 more wounded. Despite all the assaults, a small but determined British force of 3,000 City Guards remains standing. President McKinley gives it his all, desiring to destroy the British presence in North America once and for all. At 2,000 more casualties, Ottawa falls. The Canadian Confederation as a whole is expected to collapse next.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Ottawa.jpg

McKinley delivers a victory address only 2 weeks after the start of the British-American conflict. He says that at the current rate of victories, he expects complete American dominance in Canada by the end of the year. He orders 14,000 Gatling Gun-men to take up positions around Southern Montreal, to hinder a British counterattack.

With his first strike on the global chess board complete, McKinley awaits the training of new recruits to send against the Canadian grinder.

In one month, the American army has siezed Jamaica, much of Canada, and 7 important cities.

Week 9:

IBT, rights of passage are re-negotiated with numerous nations. This helps supplement our economy further - and thus the war effort against Britain and France. Scandinavia signs a trade embargo against us. Not that we needed their trade anyways. Our ships engage the British off Canada. The result? Germany rallies to our cause against Britain. We can see the chain reaction of alliances about to go off.. on a lesser note, Brazil also joins. We will leave it to them to crush the British and French colonies in South America.

Britain fails to damage our ships via it's multiple bombardments(this implies they fear the American navy, they must ration their attacks). They also attack Germany's powerful navy: triggering war with Portugal. With the exception of Italy joining Britain and France, it seems the world war is fully underway. Africa and Europe will be battlefields. France declares war on Germany. The Boer Republics also blockade us.

Finally, Italy declares war on Germany. Our military plans our stolen right afterwards! We go to war with Italy after Russia and Germany are attacked. The war's alliances are set. It is time for the world to embrace the full hell of war.

---

Week 9 opens with the First Battle of Belize. A small American force has been deployed to the city of Belize in British Honduras. Though small, they are better trained man-for-man then the British colonial troops, and the full fury of the American Caribbean fleet is there to support them.

The assault is successful, and 3 bands of British troops are defeated. While the defenses remain enormous, injuries are high and morale low. The city also is growing angry as they are drafted to defend against the American hordes. The city holds out thanks to it's superior numbers, but starvation and disease are starting to take their toll. The American army camps in the sugar fields around Belize. Meanwhile, The President shifts his attention back to Canada.

--- Canadian Campaign ---

McKinley had few troops, but he still hoped to gain ground against the British in Canada. His plan was to destroy Quebec. If Quebec fell, British Canada would fall without it's core. He failed to deal a blow to Montreal with his fastest artillery, so he had them all gather in one point southwest of the city. They were well protected by fast, mobile cavalry, and some infantry joined the fray. Within a month, the Battle of Montreal would ensue, and the fate of Canada would be decided.

Peacefully, McKinley linked Western Canada to the United States by rail. Once the city of Dawson was taken, Alaska would be connected to the USA. He also poured his large treasury into recruiting more soldiers. The end of the first quarter, would be celebrated by the end of the British in Canada.

Week 13:

IBT, Brazil sends large numbers of troops to occupy British Guiana. Britain itself sends 4,000 Colonial Cavalry to harass our gains in Canada. We expect a guerilla campaign to hinder our advance.

Somebody tries to launch a propoganda campaign against us in Santo Domingo, Hispaniola. Portugal joins the campaign against France. We can foresee the waters of the world becoming a tad more dangerous for Britain and France. France also declares war on Brazil.

--- Battle of Montreal ---

It was the end of March. Spring had just begun, and true to it's name, the American offensive had sprung into action. Insane numbers of artillery surrounded Montreal. Backing them up was large numbers of cavalry. Even more cavalry divisions would soon arrive from the homeland.

The first shots greatly weaken the British garrison in Montreal. It is costly like Ottawa - we lose at least 15,000 men - but we do manage to 'snipe' the City Guards. This enables us to roll over their military there. Cavalry are forced to take up the defense.

It takes a few more casualities, but Montreal falls. The American nation is destined to absorb Canada. North of Ottawa, we dispose of the 4,000 man force Britain sent to act as a Quebecois insurgency. We now proceed to take the namesake of Quebec - Quebec city.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Montreal.jpg

--- Battle of Quebec ---

Quebec was a prosperous city in Canada, it's largest in terms of population. It was also an important port for the British naval forces - isolated yet capable of building a great fleet. It was time for this asset to be removed. As great as it is, it is very lightly defended - only 3 professional groups of soldiers, City Guards included. A small detachment of the American navy makes short work of them. The United States Army strikes fast and mercilessly, like a cheetah.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Quebec.jpg

Quebec falls. There were few casualties. We then aim to destroy Halifax - the last significant naval base in Canada for the Royal Navy.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Halifax.jpg

It takes far more casualties then Quebec, but Halifax falls. A victory rally is held in Washington, only 6 weeks after the previous one. The battle for Canada is considered won. Only the terrain prevents a quick and decisive conquest of the remaining Canadian cities.

--- Second Battle of Belize ---

With the conflict in Canada now slowed due to thick forests and large hills blocking rapid progress, we turn to the battle of Belize. Belize had survived the last assault intact. It's sugar plantations were now guarded by American soldiers, however.

The Belize Garrison is greatly weakened by constant bombardment from the United States navy. Now it's up to American troops to carry the stars and stripes into the city's center...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13LeadernBelize.jpg

A great leader - Theodore Roosevelt - reveals himself during this battle. Though he was Secretary of the Navy and an advocate of the war with Britain, his resignation of being Secretary so he could personally lead the troops to victory was what made him extremely popular.

Belize found itself defended by a poor man's army of colonial sentries... low numbers, low morale, and low training allowed the American army to crush them with practically no casualties. Belize was won. The British had been evicted from the Caribbean - with the exception of their tiny island colony north of British Guiana.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week13Belize.jpg

The people of Belize did not resist the American yoke. It was now time for the US military to focus outwards - and potentially conquer the Caribbean completely. The naval forces outside Belize were directed to assist the Brazilians in occupying British Guiana.

--- Misc. Manuevers and the Effects of War ---

American naval vessels also took up positions around Bermuda. Though we couldn't take the island bastion, we did harass it. Two Virginia Class Battleships destroyed it's coastal defenses, sank transports in the harbor, and blocked fisherman from harvesting valuable food resources all in one fell swoop. Our economists calculated this would cause 1/6 of the population of the island to starve. McKinley said it was a necessary evil.

While the British lost ground in the Americas, they were gaining it elsewhere. The tiny Portugese city of Macau fell to the British forces in Hong Kong. We expected our allies' territory in China to fall anyways. It is in Europe where Portuguese, German, and Russian forces could deliver an efficient blow to the British, French and Italians. Besides that, there had been no major shifts in territory amongst the conflicting nations.

McKinley ended the month by amassing a plan to strike all 3 of the remaining Canadian cities.

Week 17:

IBT, further chain reactions occur diplomatically, with a state of war being declared between Brazil and Italy. The Enemy Alliance tries to harm us economically - France and Britain use their financial connections to rally Spain, the Ottomans, Persia and Austria-Hungary against us. The idea behind this is to "rein in the Renegade Americans". Hmph. We'd like to see them try.

The Brazilian Army is - for lack of a better word - completely and utterly owned outside British Guiana as they try to take Georgetown. No matter - we will invade British South America soon enough.

----

President McKinley is proud to announce the connection of every North American city by railroad during this week. With the exception of the British territories, every part of North America is linked by the Pan-American railway. This causes cheers amongst Canadians, as their railways and roads had been destroyed during the battles of Canada.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week17AttackonDawson.jpg

More good news reaches Washington - we have deployed a massive force of 26,000 battle-hardened troops outside Dawson, British Columbia. They camp out in the mountains, and have naval support from the shores. Once Dawson falls, the Battle for Canada can be considered won, as it will then be a simple West to East conquest.

At the same time, 52,000 cavalrymen are in striking distance of Fort Severn. If Fort Severn falls, Canada will be split in half. Our spies report it has 13,000 infantry, along with one artillery battery. The Cavalry division is ordered forward. When the battle ends, we have sustained 8,000 deaths and 6,000 injuries, yet we have captured the city and eliminated it's entire garrison.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week17FortSevernFalls.jpg

With the fall of Fort Severn, Canada's oil deposits are added to our own. The British sections of Canada - which are the most sparsely populated - are now cut in half. Hudson's Bay is also officially under American rule. We have recieved word most of the Canadian government has fled to Britain, leaving the army in charge of affairs in Canada; meaning martial law has been established.

We also sink a British vessel off the coast of Quebec - it had been escorting a transport. We're content to let the transport go, while our navy takes up positions around Quagtag, the last free city of Eastern Canada. Transports are due to ship troops to the area within 2 weeks.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21RussiaSurrenders.jpg

IBT, Russia signs a peace treaty with Britain. This will allow it to devote it's full attention to the war with France and Italy... Siam and Tibet also join the anti-American embargo. Battles ensue, with British colonial cavalry invading our territory in South America and killing the remnants of the Brazilian assault force. What's stranger is the fact an elite British cavalry unit emerges from the northern Canadian wastes to attack one of our groups of soldiers, who were blocking the entrance to Alaska. They are crushed.

La Plata and Abyssinia join the embargo against us by signing treaties with France. This is a bit closer to home, but it is no threat to our growing power. Russia also re-declares war on the British due to treaty obligations. Santo Domingo in Hispaniola is a victim of a failed propoganda attempt.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21PreDreadnoughtsIV.jpg

Finally, we discover Pre-Dreadnoughts IV.
----

A check on international affairs reveals the Portugese have last the city of Bissau to the French. Portugal is taking the war hard. It is also revealed the United States has 14% of the world's land and 17% of it's population. Britain has 17% of the world's land, and 18% of it's population.

On our way to Quagtag, our navy sinks 2 transports and 2 small British vessels. The Royal Navy is slowly losing prominence... 24,000 troops land outside the city, ready to kill it's mediocre 3,000 man militia.

Meanwhile, we assault Dawson. There are 15,000 British troops inside the city, backed by an artillery unit. We field 19,000 cavalry, with 7,000 infantry. It will be a close battle. We lose 14,000 men, while gaining 8,000 more injuries. The British are reduced to a mere 5,000 men.

Week 25:

IBT, the Abyssinians try to gain our allegiance for 300 gold per turn. We refuse to even consider the offer with that third world nation - especially after they worked with the Allies. We instead send them away with a right of passage which they'll never use, acquiring some gold to fund our war effort. Japan also joins the embargo against us with Italy. While those involved in the imports/exports business grow discontent with McKinley, the USA is still prosperous, since it domestically produces most of it's goods thanks to our conquests of the Americas.

We also sink a French vessel off Africa. We renew our right of passage with Portugal, granting them 50 gold per turn in order to aid their war effort. Shortly after, the Lowlands and the Balkans join the embargo. This means every country in Europe apart from our alliance is now blockading us. Uruguay joins in ironically - it is aligned to Brazil, one of our allies.

Portugal also loses one of it's cities in southwest Africa. The Portugese Empire is crumbling in the face of World War I. Also, it has lost Goa in India. That means Portugal has lost 4 of it's cities to the enemy - while Britain has lost about 12, and far more territory/population.

---

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25Quagtag.jpg

We launch the offensive at Quagtag this year. At no casualties, the city and all Eastern Canada falls to us. The British navy will have to go back home - in pieces, as our ships immediately target them.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25BritishInvasion.jpg

We discover the British have assembled massive fleets in the Northeast of Canada. They also have many steam transports, leading us to believe this is where the marauding cavalry had originated from. The British Empire is attempting to retake it's fallen possessions, but they are in for a fight: most of their navy is engaged overseas, while we have plenty of ships to greet them with. Our naval vessels are given orders to head for Canada, and to destroy any transport vessels in sight.

We attempt to take Dawson, with fresh re-inforcements from southern Canada.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25DawsonTaken.jpg

We succeed with the deaths of 4,000 cavalry.

=== Victory in Canada! ===

President McKinley declared the end of the War in Canada in yet another rally in D.C. He said the World War was basically won, as the USA now controlled one of Britain's most valuable centers - the others being Britain, South Africa, East Africa, India, and Australia. If not for the fact Britain and France had achieved victories over Portugal and to an extent Russia, they likely would have caved in. McKinley said that he had already tried to get Britain to surrender at least one of it's colonies, but they wouldn't even part with tiny Macau. He thus declared that the war would continue: what the USA couldn't take diplomatically, it would take militarily. So said the olive branch and the arrows.

While conquest of Canada had been the initial objective(so as to end it's threat to the US), the goal now shifted to domination of the entirety of the Allies' American colonies. A plan was drawn up to sieze the French and British Caribbean islands, as well as their holdings in Guyana. Finally, we would launch naval invasions of Bermuda and the Falkland islands. McKinley said these were extensions of the Monroe Doctrine - the USA decided the fate of all the Americas as it desired. And the time had come to drive the Europeans from the continent.

With that, a Presidential Order was given to amass troops and naval vessels. Bermuda would be attacked first, with the invasions going in a north-south direction from there. Without Canada, Britain's holdings in the Americas were to be easy pickings.

The British government blames the defeat in North America on distraction with global affairs in the wars with Germany, Russia, and Portugal. They also blame the fact the USA had far superior manpower. To finalise their own statement, the British say that Canada is on "temporary lease."

===

The Georgetown Offensive is organised in South America. Troops from Chile and Colombia are being amassed in the hills outside Georgetown, to conquer the city and drive the British from South America. Once Georgetown falls, we can capture French Guyana right after it.

Week 29:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week29WarwithDutch.jpg

IBT, because of an accident that causes them to sink one of our submarines, the Lowlands enter a state of war with us. This will benefit our allies the world over - the small, divided Dutch and Belgian Empire will be easy pickings. This also will allow us to evict the Lowlands along with France and Britain. Russia and Germany will also be able to push into the Netherlands and Belgium on their way to France, guaranteeing a Coalition-held Europe.

Our military plans are stolen during the IBT, likely by one of the Allies.

The embargo against us shrinks - Uruguay declares war on France and the rest of the Allies.

---

Week 29 begins with the sinking of several small British vessels, including one transport. We also discover the Germans have ships in the area, though they seem to be escorting transports. Sinking the Royal Navy and the Dutch fleet will guarantee the security of North America.

Near Georgetown, the US Navy redlines all of the British troops in the 21-size city. The American Army is given orders to advance, and begin the conquest of Guyana.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week29Georgetown.jpg

With few deaths, we manage to take the city, evicting the British from a land-based position. Now they only rule scattered islands. We capture their laborers, and wipe out a cavalry division northwest of the city.

We do a quick review of the world, and find out Britain has lost it's position as hegemon. The USA rules 16% of the world's land and 17% of it's people. Britain still has 18% of the world's people, but Russia has taken over Britain's land spot, ruling 16% of the world.

More good news awaits us - Russia has conquered Amsterdam. This is somewhat cancelled out by how Germany has lost one of it's African cities to Britain. But as the Lowlands collapse, it is likely World War I will became far easier - as our allies can then enter France unopposed. The Dutch and Belgian governments, expecting a Coalition invasion, have fled to Indonesia. The fall of Brussels is anticipated by all of Europe.

Apart from troops amassing inside French Guyana to conquer it, nothing much occurs.

Week 33:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week33WarwithChina.jpg

IBT, China declares war on the USA, working as an agent of France. This is an outrage, as we had been generously giving them foreign aid. France adds more pressure by getting the Boer Republics to declare war on us. France then gets Argentina against us as well. To try to capitalise, the French government unsuccesfully tries to steal our military plans. The French finally manage to sieze another one of Portugal's cities.

---

McKinley realises the situation is growing dire. However, he tells the American people not to panic. Without British support, the Argentines cannot hope for victory.

There are some skirmishes on Bermuda, and we destroy the British fleet off Canada. The German fleet is showing up more and more in the region, helping us maintain regional superiority. We nonetheless encourage them to return to Europe to protect their interests.

The year ends. Next year, we hope to capture Bermuda and end the British menace's presence.

I figured you guys would want this as a treat. :) To better understand the chaos of the world:

First, a world map at the end of Week 37.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/WorldMapWeek371898.png

Next, what I call a "war map". This shows the status of the war. Since World War I's main competitors are Britain and the USA, they get their own colors. Britain is dark red, while the USA is dark blue. The British-led Allies are red. The American-led allies are blue. Neutral nations are light gray. This gives you all a clue to how things are stacked in terms of geography.

Whoa! That's one serious world war! Who would have thought... England and the US embattled against each other in an epic war to the finish. :crazyeye:

Well actually... the USA has planned to take over Canada since day one... diplomacy has just made that unable to occur. For instance, before the outbreak of the real World War I, the USA actually had plans to invade the main parts of the British Empire in case a hypothetical war broke out.

In a sense... I've chosen to actually use those battle plans, instead of scrap them, as occurred in history. ^__^

...Let's hope Germany signs a military alliance somewhere. I'm really afraid of the rest of South America dogpiling on us. If the French/British gain military alliances with Spain, the Ottomans, Austria-Hungary, and the Balkans, the war in Europe will be lost, especially with Austria. That said, I'm hoping for a war to break out with Spain... the Spanish-American war actually isn't too far off in real history from the point of the game I'm in... :mischief:

I take a picture of a map of the world from Wikipedia. :) Then I add the colors as I please to indicate countries, and voila! I also adjust borders to show provinces, as you may have noticed. (In this one, the USA has annexed Northern Mexico)

Also. The war gets worse. Trust me...The WHOLE MAP will be red within 2 turns.

Week 37:

IBT, our mutual protection pact with Brazil ends. It is too expensive to renew it, when we could use stronger allies. We do send them an aid package of 20 gold per turn to aid their efforts.

Scandinavia joins France in an alliance against us. This triggers a war with Russia and Germany, which they are likely to lose. Persia joins the dogpile next. Abyssinia joins an alliance against Brazil... okay. We also reach the era 1905 - 1914. A bit early for it, but okay. Finally, France, Scandinavia and Italy are caught trying to plant spies in the American realm to destabilise it. We execute the spies, of course.

---

The French made a wise move dragging in so many allies, for the time has come to end their empire in South America. The French have been holding onto French Guiana for hundreds of years, and we shall now take the decaying outpost of Cayenne from them. Our navy has already redlined most of their troops.

At only a few thousand deaths, we capture the city. McKinley declares the formation of the "Guyana" territory, comprised of British and French Guyana. Dutch Guyana will be added to it shortly afterwards. With the fall of French Guyana, the Dutch are entirely surrounded in South America. We send our troops to besiege the city, and prepare for the assault to finally banish Europe from South American soil.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week37BermudaTaken.jpg

We capture Bermuda, as well. The British have lost the strategic waypoint between Britain and it's American colonies.

Taniciusfox
Oct 27, 2008, 07:48 AM
Week 41:

IBT, the Argentines and Chinese invade US soil, in Chile and Midway respectively. Argentina is repelled, with more troops crossing the border. Our troops in midway dig in to defeat the Chinese light cavalry.

In terms of alliances, WW1 grows more in favor of the Allies. France continues it's role as the diplomatic ally, securing Austria-Hungary's war on Brazil and Uruguay. Luckily, this will not drag in the American nation yet, as we do not have a treaty with Brazil anymore. More worrying, is Portugal's decision to declare war on Persia. This war will trigger war with the Ottoman Empire by mutual protection treaty, giving the Allies more benefits in manpower and geography.

McKinley says that despite regional victories by the Allies, the Coalition is still supreme, having toppled the Canadian government and being well on it's way to evicting the British from America - north and south. He sends a warning to Britain: Once the Americas are conquered, the rest of the world is next. In the meantime, small divisions of the American fleet are already off the coast of China and Africa, providing assistance to our German allies, or destroying British shipping/troops.

--

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week41AzoresLost.jpg

We notice Portugal has lost the Azores to France. McKinley makes a note to take the strategic islands for the USA once we have defeated our foes in America.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week41Paramaribo.jpg

We capture Paramaribo from the Dutch during Week 41. With the fall of Paramaribo, all of Guyana is ours. We also have sealed off a front in North America. The United States and Brazil can now plow through Argentine territory together.

The month has passed with a small but decisive victory. The fall of the French Antilles is expected to occur within the next month.

Week 45:

IBT... the worst happens:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week45AustriaWar.jpg

Austria-Hungary has gone against the Coalition, fearing a stronger Germany to it's north. Still sore after having lost it's south German lands half a century ago, Austria-Hungary joins the Allies. Tibet follows.

Italy invades Bermuda, while we destroy the Chinese invaders on Midway. The French also send a small force to try and retake French Guyana.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week45KhazakInvasion.jpg

More interesting is the fact the... "Khazaks" invade from Northern Canada...

Portugese West Africa finally falls, with it's last city being occupied by Britain. The extreme north of German East Africa has fallen to the French. Our allies colonial empires are falling apart...

---

Intelligence tells President McKinley the Khazaks are a people from Kazakhstan in the Russian Empire. Whether they are militant refugees or insurgents sent by our "allies", we do not know. Nonethless, relations with Russia worsen a little. We make a note to desert our alliance with them after the war.

Basse Terre, the last French possession in the Americas, is bombarded heavily by American naval vessels. The French garrison is redlined, while the city's barracks and 3 units of it's population are killed - making the population 11 points and thus very vulnerable to assault.

Basse Terre - and the French Caribbean islands with it - falls. France has been evicted from the Americas at last, a struggle having lasted for more then a century. Soon, it's British and French brethren will join it. The Allies will suffer the same losses the Coalition forces have in terms of colonial outposts.

As plans are finalised to conquer both the Dutch and British Caribbean holdings within a month, we assess the situation overseas. The United States views it as imperative that the Allies be evicted from home territory first and foremost. Once that's done, we will establish superiority overseas. That said, a large portion of our navy has already gone across the Oceans, with little competition at home( a sizeable defense force is still operating off the East Coast, with more being constructed.) For instance, there are 9 ships off the Chinese coasts. They are blockading ports, bombarding roads, and preventing the use of fishing supplies. The point of this is not to cripple the British, but reduce their local capabilities by killing their people.

To point out the effects of the war on Britain's forces, the British only have 106 vessels. We have 87 by comparison - 69 of them being the fine Virginia Class Battleships which are marauding the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. We have definitely achieved local superiority, as the Allies' island possessions are falling like dominoes to the American state. The German Navy has 20 vessels, meaning together we outnumber the British in both quality and quantity. The Royal Navy is not the hegemon it once was...

As this turn goes by, we sink many British vessels, including a transport. The British navy is large, but likely very spread out. It would collapse if not for it's many allies.

Week 49:

IBT, any hopes of keeping Austria-Hungary out of the worldwide war are dashed. They declare war on both Portugal and Russia. This will drag in Germany. Brazil also declares war on Argentina, which will help secure our position.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49PortugalBritishPeace.jpg

Portugal signs a peace treaty with the British. But this will be short-lived, once mutual protection pacts do their work and drag them back into war...

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49RussoJapaneseWar.jpg

Japan declares war on Russia, working as an agent of France. The world war expands yet again... we expect La Plata to join the crusade against the Coalition. Brazil makes peace with the French, but the alliance with France will likely drag Brazil in again...

Sure enough, before the IBT is over, Japan signs an alliance against us as well. The only remaining neutral states are La Plata, the Balkans, Spain, Siam, and the Ottoman Empire. The Ottomans will eventually join the allies thanks to their mutual defense obligations.

..Scratch that. The Balkan nations aligned with France shortly after, declaring war on Germany. The Ottoman Empire then allies against Russia with France.

---

President McKinley called Congress into an emergency session following the newest declarations of war against the USA and it's allies. He said that Coalition Victory was slipping away with each passing day as the Allies recruited new members to replace their lost holdings. Almost the entire world was against the USA now. It was decided to align with 2 powers: Spain and La Plata. If we could recruit these 2 nations, we could secure the Caribbean and South America, as well as give ourselves an extra hand in East Asia and Europe. We went to Spain first.

...Both refuse to negotiate. La Plata offers it's services, but for most of our treasury and almost all our monthly income. McKinley says no. He instead proposes we set said 25,000 gold to give to our German and Russian allies. The United States has a fat treasury - 83,000 gold. We thus choose to give it all away to our most-potent allies. We attempt to secure Brazil and La Plata's loyalty by giving them 100 gold per turn - they'd be crazy to cancel such a generous economic stimulus.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49Willemstad.jpg

In good news, we evict the Dutch from the Americas by capturing their last outpost of Willemstad off Venezuela. The President applauds the troops in a speech, and encourages the other half of the Caribbean task force to take Bridgetown and get the British out of the Caribbean as well.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49Bridgetown.jpg

At heavy casualties, the last British haven in the Caribbean falls. We have successfully evicted the Europeans from the Americas - with the exception of the Falkland Islands in the far South. But that will come as we destroy Argentina.

=== The Allies Fall Apart ===

Then, President McKinley finds an excellent way to manipulate diplomacy. He negotiates peace with France... then requests an alliance against the British.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week49FranceAlliance.jpg

France accepts under duress, not even wanting to consider the idea of Americans invading Europe. This sends shockwaves through the political system - we have turned our 2 greatest enemies in this war against eachother! We have also eliminated France's position as a diplomatic machine, by toasting their reputation with most of the world's countries.

They also have betrayed their allies by MPP - meaning they will never be able to get another without extreme costs. We also negotiate for a war against Austria-Hungary shortly after. This will make Europe a chaotic battlefield, which will let us slip in unnoticed. As well, all our agreements with France will be terminated once they attack Germany anew, making this diplomatic coup an excellent decision. Besides, McKinley realises our allies are only temporary... once the World War has ended in Coalition victory, we will seek newer, stronger allies.

12 weeks after the last 2 maps, the world has changed. The Allies have been crushed in the Caribbean, while borders continue to shift in the European and African wars.

The World Map:

Notice the American conquests of Guyana and the Antilles. Argentina will come next.

The War Map:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/WarMapWeek491898.png

Observe the fact neutrality has become near nonexistent. Austria-Hungary is directly at war with us, while the Balkans and Ottomans will likely get dragged in via a MPP with those who are at war with us. Overall, the situation looks dire for the Coalition. However, our stroke of diplomatic genius has allowed us to temporarily splinter the Franco-British forces. Even if their conflict only lasts 10 turns, it will still aid us by weakening them both and taking weight off our allies.

Spain is currently a member of the Coalition, as Germany united them against France. At the same time, they went against a member OF the Coalition, so depending on circumstances, we may or may not destroy them. Same goes for La Plata in South America. A pre-emptive strike would be beneficial to security.

1899

Week 1:

IBT, Portugal loses the Madeira Islands to France. France also makes a stupid move and signs a new mutual protection pact with Tibet, instead of a competent major power. The Japanese also bomb us in multiple locations with their primitive fleet of gunboats.

We also get fantastic news: Italy has declared war on Britain! The Allies continue to fracture...

The Brits have the nerve to invade the US proper.

But even better news arrives:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1SpainAttacksFrance.jpg

SPAIN has joined the Coalition! Now aligned against France, the war is tilting in our favor ever more! Germany has finally flexed it's diplomatic muscles. While Spain is likely to lose it's African Empire, this will increase our security in Asia and Europe, while also preventing a war with them in the Caribbean. We decide to send them 1,000 gold afterwards to celebrate their alliance with us.

Germany continues the diplomatic offensive - gaining Spain's allegiance against Japan, China, and the Boer Republics. Less useful, Germany gains Uruguay's alliance against the Lowlands and Boers. Kaiser Wilhelm II then uses Anti-French sentiment in Southeast Asia to rally Siam against the French. This pours into anti-Dutch sentiment as well, fueling a war with the Netherlands by Siam. Then Persia. Next, Germany gets Tibet against the Boer Republics.

Germany continues to use natives as a proxy force - rallying Abyssinia against the Italians.

China joins France against Siam. The Ottomans join France against Britain. The Ottomans also go against Portugal - but the war with Britain will aid us greatly. Abyssinia and France sign a pact against the British. Once alliances take effect, Abyssinia will be at war with every one of it's borders. Italy declares war on Spain, as well. Persia declares war on Britain. The World War has escalated into a 3-way conflict.

---

McKinley's first move of 1899 was to eliminate the British invasion. They had deployed 18,000 troops, some British, some Canadian, in our territory. We could not let the transgression go unnoticed. Unfortunately for the British troops, we had plenty of artillery left over from the war in Canada...

In a few days, shelling had left only 7,000 of those men capable of fighting. 4,000 of them had been killed by a raid of US infantry.

McKinley's raid is successful with minimal casualties. The British are defeated, and the fleet that sent the troops there destroyed. With their hands full with the French-led alliance, chances are this war will work in our favor.

Next, we launch the Greenland offensive. The time had come to drive Scandinavia from North America. Luckily, the ill-defended outpost of Narsarsuaq in southern Greenland was all they had in the region. Up against US troops and a sizeable US naval force, the city was doomed.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1NarsarCaptured.jpg

At no casualties, the city falls. Our road to Europe is secured. The order was given shortly after to land troops in Iceland.

We complete a road to Quagtag, Quebec. This means every city in North America is now connected by road. Railroads are built as well, as Quagtag is built near the strategic waters of Northern Canada, which vessels have been using to get to Europe from Asia.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week1SanMiguel.jpg

We also manage to capture the city of San Miguel de Tucuman from Argentina, representing American penetration into the country. Chile is finally linked to Brazil and Uruguay with the conquest, enabling easy flow of troops. McKinley decides to initiate the process of Americanisation, and starts to give all names more English-sounding spelling and appearance. For instance, San Miguel became St. Michael.

We make raids on Rosario further southeast from St. Michael, but it doesn't yield fruits. We do kill one of the units in the city. Due to a massive recruitment program initiated by McKinley, we will have thousands of fresh troops next month with which we can take Argentina. If not for the fact IBT, The Brazilians will block the railways through their country...

Week 5:

IBT, Japan joins Austria-Hungary in an alliance against France, seeking to take rich Indochina. China wants it's ancestral territory as well, so it also declares war on the French. The Boers declare war on the Russians. It would seem that all dogpiles have disentigrated in the face of conflicting diplomacy initiated by McKinley's diplomatic coup. However, Spain declares war on Russia. This makes them a rogue state, against both France and ourselves.

In addition to many declarations of war worldwide with Germany and France operating as the nexi of diplomacy, we get the long-awaited message:

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5WaronFrance.jpg

France and the USA have resumed hostilities as a result of our alliance. This was McKinley's plan - he never intended to truly settle for peace with France - he desired the French Empire.

Half of German Southwest Africa - around the coastal city of Luderitz - has fallen to Britain.

---

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Rosario.jpg

Week 5 also opens with the conquest of Rosario by American troops. Casualties are a bit high due to the machine guns wielded by the Argentines, but our sheer force of numbers overwhelms them. Rosario gives us more flexibility with our campaign, and the Secretary of War even speaks of possibly invading Buenos Aires, the largest city and capital of Argentina.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week5Mendoza.jpg

We opt to capture Mendoza for tin supplies and due to it's much smaller defenses and garrison. The city falls after a few thousand casualties, and the Argentine Puppet State is officially propped up.

We also sink many ships, be they Italian or Japanese. American vessels have reached the Azores, where they observe the war there between France and Britain for control of the islands and the seas around them.

Week 9

IBT, the Ottomans declare war on Germany. They also attack Russia, triggering a war with the USA.

Britain captures the Azores in a massive battle with the French. IBT, Kaiser Wilhelm comes to us and asks for an embargo against the French and British. As the Germans have proven loyal allies, we agree to both.

President Simon Castro of La Plata fails to plant a spy in our capital. We make a note to make a pre-emptive strike out of fear of La Platan war plans...

---

Good news reaches us regarding transportation issues: The Brazilians have left the railway. Our own troops are positioned along it to keep it open to the American war machine. We also link all of occupied Argentina with Chile by railway. This will enable rapid deployment of troops.

Destruction of most of our small force and a lack of naval support causes us to abandon the campaign for Iceland. We sign a peace with Scandinavia so we can prevent their recapture of Narsarsuaq.

We launch a surprise attack on the city of San Julian in the far south of Chile. This will give us a two-front war on Chile and stretch their defenses. Meanwhile, we continue to hammer Buenos Aires.

The Battle of Buenos Aires is costly. Most of the Argentine Army - as well as the excellent City Defense Forces - is amassed there. Tens of thousands of US troops die trying to take the city, and likewise for the Argentines. This is due to a lack of naval support. However, we gradually break through, and manage to reduce the city to common militiamen, who die like flies.

The city falls. We capture Argentina's capital, destroy more of it's workforce, eliminate much of the Argentine Army, and finally sieze their coal resources. The industrial north of Argentina is now under the control of the American-installed Argentine puppet regime. President Jose Uriburu flees to the south. There are only 2 major cities left in Argentina. Once those fall, our puppet state will be secure, and we can focus on the world picture.

The month ends with us amassing troops outside Bahia Blanca. Once it falls, the rest of Argentina's a short distance away.

Week 13

IBT, the Uruguayans kill 3 units of Argentine Cavalry. We also repel an Argentine attempt to retake Buenos Aires.

Britain and Russia sign another peace treaty. The British sink 2 of our Virginia Battleships. They were getting too close to the Home Isles.

The IBT ends with unusual quiet.

We capture Bahia Blanca 3 months into the year. By doing so, we reduce Argentina to one city, eliminate some of their artillery, and destroy their workforce. Jose Uriburu says that Argentina will fight to the end.

The last city of Argentina has an estimated 13,000 units inside - 3,000 machine gunners included. President McKinley says that we must advance the attack, and defeat the Argentines once and for all.

Comodora Rivadavia falls with minimal casualties. Jose Uriburu is located, arrested, tried, and executed by the Argentine puppet government for treason.

=== The Union Expands ===

McKinley held a victory speech in Washington, D.C., merely a day after Comodora Rivadavia fell. He said that the United States would go on to defeat Britain and France now that the war in the Americas was over. But first, the British Empire would be dismantled by taking the Falklands. Once those were gone, the US could then decide it's next move.

McKinley also was told by his advisors that it would be wise to spread the American model of democracy to some of the conquered lands, in order to maintain their loyalty. The Canadian and Central American provisional states had remained largely under American rule, essentially territories but without any benefit. The puppet states of South America had more independence, even if they were still subject to American rule in special cases. Guyana had been turned into an official territory of the Union.

The decision was made to annex more of Mexico and Canada. At the time of this decision, the USA had 50 states - the previous 5 added Mexican ones included.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/MexicanStates.png

In the end, all of Mexico was carved into 16 states. The 11 that weren't admitted were immediately annexed to the Union. The Republicans were very against this action - the Senators from Mexican states numbered 32, to America's 90. This was why they limited actions regarding Canadian admissions.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/CanadianStates.png

In the end, we take 6 Canadian provinces as states - British Columbia, Quebec, Manitoba, Ontario, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick. This turns the amount of non-American Senators into 44. The US Congress has greatly enlarged, as have our borders. The remainder of Canada is left alone, and organised into the independent nation of Canada - an American puppet regime, of course.

However, when riots began to erupt when the rest of Central America was denied citizenship, it was decided to annex those regions as well. Panama came first, then Costa Rica, then Nicaragua. Guatamala was annexed further north. These 4 new states guaranteed the relative pacification of Central America. Of course, Republicans weren't too happy about the idea of handing more votes to foreigners, but it was decided that by assimilating these sections, the power of the USA would continue to grow.

A survey found that almost nobody in Mexico or Central America considered themselves those ethnicities anymore - the majority considered themselves American. It was thus decided to annex the rest of Central America, apart from Belize, where most considered themselves British.

The 4/5 rule was established by Congress after the multitude of annexations that caused the states in the Union to jump from 45 to 73 states - all in the course of less then 5 years - carved out of Mexico, Central America and Canada. The 4/5 rule stated that when at least 4/5 of a region's population considered itself culturally American, it would be annexed to the Union. This kept several cities close to the 80% point - like those in Venezuela - from joining the Union. But this kept Republicans happy. Canada was an exception to this rule because of cultural, ethnic and linguistic similarities to the USA.

And so, the Union had grown. American prosperity would continue.

Notice how Argentina is now an American puppet-regime, and how Germany has lost more turf to the Allies.

Week 17

IBT, we sign an embargo against Scandinavia with Siam. Japan also expresses it's desires to conquer Asia, by aligning with Austria-Hungary against Tibet. The Balkan Nations then officially declare war on us. La Plata signs an embargo against us with Japan, making McKinley authorise defensive programs to protect South American properties in case of La Platan attack. The British make maneuvers to invade the USA again, this time in the weak outpost of Greenland.

Germany rallies the Brazilians against the Balkans, desiring New World aid in the European War. La Plata's embargo against us with France ends, when Germany brings La Plata against France as well. The whole New World - with the exception of the Falklands - has chosen to rally to our side. Spain declares war on the Balkans next.

The Lowlands and Russia sign a peace treaty, as well. While this may impede our progress into Europe, it will enable Russia to focus on Japan and France.

We also complete the Cruise Liner Company in Managua.

Finally, the French lose their hold of Portugese Southwest Africa to Britain.

---

Japan is crumbling. The Korean section of Japan, once ready to industrialise like the homeland, is now deprived of valuable coal thanks to our naval bombardment. We even weakened the City Guards that were protecting it to 1,000 men. Russian Cossacks were seen trying to defeat them, and almost succeeded. The fall of Korea is expected. Taiwan is losing status as a wealthy colony, with most of it's roads - and it's coal supplies - destroyed. Japan itself is in trouble, our bombardments have destroyed several railroads, as well as the homeland's supplies of coal and cotton. Without coal, they cannot build ships. WIthout cotton, they cannot cloth their troops. The fact we've sunk several Japanese vessels is not helping the Empire of the Rising Sun's situation...

5 land tiles with railroads of the Japanese homeland are destroyed, leaving roads in their wake. Ships block the straits between Korea and Japan to hinder mobility. We also attack their oil supplies. Their defensive works in Korea are destroyed. The Japanese navy is falling apart due to a lack of ships and a lack of supplies to build more. By the time the month is over, Japan's southernmost island is cut off from Japan proper, thanks to the destruction of roads. Oil is also removed from Japan's resources.

The war is quiet this year, with our invasion of the Falklands occurring, and a few naval battles.

Diplomatically, we annex northern Venezuela around the city of Caracas, as 5/6 people consider themselves Americans there. The south and eastern sections remain indepedent - centered around Bolivar City - and everything west of Lake Maracaibo is ceded to Colombia. The state of Caracas is added, bringing the total number of states to 74.

Week 21's world map - a hint at the next update. Notice how the British now rule all of Portugal's former possessions in Southwest Africa. The Portugese have lost most of their overseas empire in this war: Macau, Goa, Angola, and Bissau. Their sole remaining colonies are Mozambique(not penetrated yet), and Timor. They also lost the Madeira Islands and the Azores.

Britain and France are tussling around for control of the Azores and the Madeiras - both of which would be strategic waypoints. Our battleships have noticed back-and-forth invasion forces on each island.

You'll notice the USA has annexed Venezuela and some of Colombia. Further annexations will follow as the former lands of New Granada finally reach the 4/5 mark necessary to become US States.

Meanwhile, due to the anarchy of war, little territory has shifted overseas. Do know we are bombing the crap out of Southeast China and Japan, however.

Week 21

IBT, Tibet rallies Scandinavia against Britain. This means that much of Europe is at war with it's borders... Scandinavia also goes to war against Spain.

Tired of the idea that Russia was the "protector" of the Slavic nations, the Balkans go to war with Russia. Peace has officially collapsed in Europe. All we need is a Russo-German war to plunge the entire continent into anarchy.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week21DutchWantPeace.jpg

The Lowlands grovel at our feet, begging us for peace. We eventually settle for a small indemnity of 200 gold from them. Since the USA no longer has alliance or mutual protection obligations, we are free to do as we please.

---

The Invasion of the Falklands does not go as planned. We lose 10,000 cavalrymen. The British lose 8,000 of their infantry there. The British however, have only 8,000 men remaining - half of them cavalry - while we deposit another 47,000 soldiers just outside Stanley. Next month, the Falklands will fall, and Britain will be evicted from the Americas FOREVER!

We manage to liberally saturate the Greenland invaders with battleship fire, weakening the force down to half it's original size. We kill a few more of them with our infantry, and secure Greenland from invasion.

In peaceful news, we annex the rest of Venezuela, as 4/5 of Bolivar City's population is finally Americanised. 2 new states are created - Maracaibo around Lake Maracaibo(Colombia was told to recede the lands it took, as well as give some of it's own lands up), and Bolivar around Bolivar City. Borders were re-arranged so the coastal regions were owned by Caracas, while the land-locked regions were owned by Bolivar. The states in the Union was now 76.

That jumps to 77 when the 80% Americanised city of Bogota and the surrounding region is added to the United States. This splits Colombia in half.

President McKinley agrees to use "unsavory" methods to get conquered areas to Americanise. The city of Quito, Ecuador is the site of a great experiment. The people are told to stop working the fields, and to start doing things such as minting money or conducting research. The city size will shrink as a result of the backwater economy and starvation, allowing Americans to move in. The fact war can obscure data will enable us to easily hide any casualties.

Week 25

IBT, Britain's forces in Greenland are annihilated by the remnants of the Scandinavia invasion force, which had yet to leave the island. As well, Russia signs peace with China, it's people war weary. Luckily, without our MPP obligations, the USA can drop out of the World War if necessary should things go bad. Portugal and Italy also end their war. Tibet signs peace with Portugal too.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25JapanWantsPeace.jpg

The Japanese Emperor comes to us, begging for a peace treaty.

Obviously, our heavy bombardment of Japan threatens their economic and military security. But we refuse to sign peace in a war in which we obviously have the advantage. Our forces have nearly encircled the Japanese archipelago, and most of their navy and coal supplies are gone.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25BritainWantsPeace.jpg

Queen Victoria - knowing that if the Falklands fall, Britain's centuries old rule in the Americas will go with it - comes next to ask for peace. As well, Britain will lose status as the "Empire on which the Sun Never Sets." McKinley responds by telling her that she knows damned well the Americans and their allies are winning this war, and he will invade Europe if necessary to humble Britain. He says that only if they turn over a city, will the USA even consider the treaty.

---

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25AbechetakenbyBritain.jpg

The French have lost the city of Abeche to the British. With it, much of French Africa falls. But the French Republic vows to continue the war, and refuse to admit defeat to it's old rival, Britain.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25BolognatakenbyAustria.jpg

The Habsburgs of Austria-Hungary also press their ancestral claims on Italy, by taking over the city of Bologna and much of northern Italy. This divides the Franco-Italian forces.

McKinley decides it's time to withdraw from pointless wars, and so, he negotiates peace with Austria. This will also enable us to give them aid in their war on France/Italy. We give Austria 50 gold, and supplement that by offering 100 gold per turn.

http://i61.photobucket.com/albums/h50/Taniciusfox/Week25FalklandsCaptured.jpg

In wars with benefits, we manage to conquer the Falklands from Britain. The US government considers it part of the Argentine Provisional State, but it is nonetheless for the most part administered directly by Washington thanks to it's strategic location as a "
