Hi I've just installed the Hof mod. However it warns me that the game I start isn't valid for Hof. While its unlikely I'll be competing at Hof levels any time soon I'd still like to get the mod working properly.

I didn't fiddle with the settings before I started (although I have now) and I get the following errors.

In the Victory->Settings screen :

Settings box :
CRC's are missing this game can't be used.

Options box:
(red) The following must be checked.
(white) Lock modifiable assets.

Can anyone tell me whats going on ?? and maybe if I can fix this ??

I haven't modfied any ini files as I start by with a command line switch in a new shortcut. I did install Bruics mod, but then uninstalled it before installing HoF.

Cheers.

Cheers. The "Locked Modified Assets" option turns on the saving of checksums (CRCs). This allows Civ4 to ensure that players are using the same Assets, such as XML and Python code, when playing Multiplayer games. The HOF Mod uses the checksum to see if the your assets are different from a standard installation.

If you are not playing a game for HOF submission or GOTM then it doesn't really matter.

There is a assetchecker tab with a program to validate assets available on the HOF Mod page if you get the error with LMA checked.

So it looks like the errors are connected - ie may be only 1 error - fine.

But how do I correct them ? I can't find the "LMA Checked" in the user interface anywhere and I have started and scrutinised the setup menus about 3 times.

If you are not playing a game for HOF submission or GOTM then it doesn't really matter.

No chance of that, but I'd still like to sort it out.

Are you saying that I need to install another mod ? that the Hof mod isn't self-contained ? I don't mean to criticise anyone, just want to understand and make the red font go away...

I don't want to sound like a jerk but the error tells you exactly what you need to do.

Options box:
(red) The following must be checked.
(white) Lock modifiable assets.

So simply check the Lock modifiable assets on the custom game startup screen. That's it, the error goes away. ;)

"Custom game startup screen"

Thats the ticket - I was just hitting single player start instead of going into custom game (something I hardly ever do)

Thanks.

Also certain map types or combinations will give the same error. The HOF webpage has a rules tab that explains which maps are allowed and what settings for those maps are okay.

I doubt they'll give me a problem as I don't mess around with settings - I don't usually do custom games either (although I did a big one once just for a laugh)

What threw me was the warning coming when I just hit the single player button, instead of going custom - I expected it to work out of the box if I didn't mess with it first, but I guess its targeted at custom game fans.

Can't really complain given the purchase price :D

For a HOF game you have to use the Custom Game setup.

So it would seem, mystery solved.
