View Full Version : Mafia: Balance of Agendas

Neverwonagame3
Jun 23, 2008, 06:18 PM
Rules:
(Based off choxorn's rules)

-Unlimited players, the more the better.
- 1 mafia per 6-7 players.
- Sign-ups last for slightly longer then 3 days (At 1:10 A.M GMT Thursday 26 June, I will start)
- Night will last 24 hours.
- At night, the mafia send in their kill to the GM (me) (give explanation for the clue as well)
- Day will last for 48 hours.
- During the day, everybody will vote for people to lynch.
- Bold your vote. You get as many votes as there are mafia remaining.
- Mafia can send false clues, but cannot make 2 in a row.
-The mafia are all against each other. They win by being the last one standing. Each citizen group wins if their Agenda is on top at the game end and they have killed all the Mafia.
-The Innocents are divided into three, each with an Agenda- Democratic, Monarchist, or Socialist. Your policy on revealing or concealing your Agenda is your own, but your objective is to make sure your Agenda is in the majority at game end.
-You ARE allowed to lie in-game, whether innocent or mafia.
-You CAN switch agendas mid-game (OR pretend to) IF you are accepted by them through a secret majority vote. (Your own agenda switch is anonymous- PMs will be sent to everybody with that agenda saying somebody wishes to change sides, and they vote)
-You CAN P.M any other player for secret plans, alliances, lies, and so on.
-It is highly recommended you either tell me to be ambiguous or PM me about who you’re saying to whom. I would prefer the latter, personally.
-A new player can join the game with the approval of a majority of those already in it. Their real agenda is their own decision, and what agenda they are planning to join and the like comes under the rules about lies.
-RP is allowed and encouraged. To the extent possible, I will incorporate it into the update.

Introduction:
The nation of Fictionalia used to have a strong sense of unity. Under an elective monarchy (where the Council voted in monarchs for life), they managed to keep peace and order, at least.

Fictionalia still has a strong sense of unity, but foreigners have spread ideas for a Democratic or Socialist Fictionalia. Nobody wants a civil war, and the loyalty to the system of General Plot Device means that whoever gets the post of Emperor will be able to implement whatever agenda they want.

Naturally, several people are out for power- and practically all of them willing to kill to get it. Others genuinely serve one agenda or another. Who will win is another question…

Player List: (without dead players)

Not a signup.

Yes, but some might defect mid-game.

Would that mean that at the beginning of the game, the Democratic, Monarchist and Socialist 'teams' could all read out their list of members, and those who aren't on any of the lists are the mafia?

Neverwonagame3
Jun 24, 2008, 05:23 AM
Each team wants to be in the majority by game end, so they want the mafia to kill off some of their opponents.

But that's a good point- maybe it would be better if nobody knows who has what agenda.

But that's a good point- maybe it would be better if nobody knows who has what agenda.
If noone knows who has what agenda what would be the point of having them? Wouldn't people just try to vote off the mafiosos and hope that their agenda happens to be the one in the majority?

Neverwonagame3
Jun 24, 2008, 06:12 PM
You can use PMs and thread clues to infer people's agenda. Amongst other things, you can:
-Threaten to kill them off
-Spare or support a known mafia in exchange for them killing off your rivals
-Try to persuade people to defect to your agenda
-Use false defections to try and figure out agendas
-Try to get an agenda team together for block votes

Perfection
Jun 24, 2008, 07:54 PM
you're going to make thread clues about people's agendas? It just seems to me that what agenda you are part of should have some impact on the game besides determining the winner at the end.

Neverwonagame3
Jun 24, 2008, 08:02 PM
During the game, people with a certain agenda are supposed to try and further it by the methods they can think of. You raise a good point though, and I'll do something about it if others support that opinion.

STARTING UP. Introduction will go here, and emails are going out telling people what they are.

NOTE: Some of the clues may be red herrings. I won't say how many. Also, just because I give a detail doesn't mean it's a clue.

Introduction:
The Council of Fictionalia had been called. The nineteen members from the many states which made up the nation had come to session. The nation was suprisingly ancient, given that it still had a large monarchist faction in an age of nuclear weapons.

But the age of monarchy, it was said, was over. While monarchy still had a chance to survive this Council, that it would was by no means certain. Due to the many lynch mobs that threatened a canidate whichever way he voted, everybody had come under code names.

Stuck in Pi arrived at the Capital first, settling down in the palace for a good drink. Lightfang asked to join him, but was rebuffed.

Empiremaker, representative of the Capital Province, arrived next. D'Artagan 59 arrived on horseback, having lost significant money to gambling. By contrast, Sirtommygun arrived in a private plane, though it did crash.

The13thRonin sailed in from abroad, meeting Tasslehoff at the port as they headed for the capital. tailleskangaru was rumoured to be an ex-criminal who had made his wife lock up all the detectives tracking him in a castle, but these rumors was dismissed by the officials in charge.

Rheinmetall, after a holiday on the Rhine, sailed back to Fictionalia for the election. Junglecutter had wanted to join him, but had urgent buisness in the Capital. killfire had rushed by train to the capital. choxorn, the ex-mayor of Normalsville, had come by bus.

Kol.7 was already there, having just returned from his controversial tenure as American Ambassador. Perfection was late, having barely completed studies at a European university. His friend Izipo had delayed the Council until he arrived, however.

While Pinman had borrowed money to come by car, Methos had chosen instead of a car to come with a horse escort, while Stylesrj had made a point of walking. Tolis had warned him not to, and came by car instead.

Another Note
R.P is fine and welcome. To the extent I can, it will be in the update.

AT 1:40 G.M.T, WILL DO NEXT UPDATE. MAFIA, SEND IN YOUR KILLS

Neverwonagame3
Jun 26, 2008, 08:14 PM
As the sun rose, somebody was heard muttering about Methos was too old to be an elector. Tolis was seen arguing with Stuck in Pi about “the way forward”.

But all this was overshadowed by the events about to take place…

“Murder!” cried Rhinemetall. Perfection and Stylesrj were first to hear, dropping their argument and running for the scene. A detective was looking at the scene, and had already drawn a conclusion.

Junglecutter was killed by a group of Frenchmen and the Venerable Bede.

Methos and Rheinmetall were discussing plans for something or other, when they heard D'Artagan59 rush into the room. “Murder!” he cried. “I saw it happen!”

Perfection ate a poisoned pie. Two hours later, his stomach exploded.

Pinman and Kol.7 heard him cry, and rushed to the scene. choxorn came next, informing them of the first murder.

Empiremaker gathered the others together- a discussion of the murders was necessary. Pinman happened to be there already, and seemed to be imploring Lightfang about something.

“So” asked killfire, “whodunit?”
“Perhaps we should leave this to the detectives?” replied Izipo.
“No way!” replied sirtommygun. “We should figure this out ourselves!”

General Plot Device slapped himself on the head, as the current sovereign of the realm began to investigate.

It is Day! Votes on who to lynch! Remember, there are three Mafias!

Neverwon, if they don't send a kill, you're supposed to make an easy clue pointing to them.

The "Frenchman" points to D'artagnan, but things associated with France are used far too often to point a finger at him.

First of all, I'd like to say to the mafia that the kills were very poorly chosen. Junglecutter said he hadn't played in a year, so that's definitely not a nice welcome party. Same could be said about Perf, who had a chance, maybe, to redeem itself.

Anyway, the first clue is quite interesting but I can't pinpoint with accuracy the perpetrator.
Junglecutter was killed by a group of Frenchmen and the Venerable Bede.

Now, a quick wiki search will explain that this guy was a saint that lived in Sunderland. I'm pretty sure I've seen that somewhere, but can't find it again (a signature ? An avatar location ?). So, search your memories for that.

The second clue doesn't make any sense.

So, following my reasoning I searched a bit more for Sunderland. It's in Northumbria in Great Britain.
Some time ago there was a NES set in medieval times, and guess who (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=6760294&postcount=315) played Northumbria ?

Also, Catharsis' name seems to crop up A LOT when you search for 'Sunderland'.

Sure, it could be a false clue, but it rings true. Inspiring, but hard to crack and with a not-so-subtle throw off part (The Frenchman thing).
There could be a link with SGs too, so that would mean either Tasslehoff or Choxorn.

I'm afraid to vote, for fear a starting a false bandwagon, so I'll think about it some more.

Check the links in our sig if you don't believe me (and yes, there are some from the first 2 in mine that aren't on the list, but they were no-shows for most or all of the game, and even then, none of them are Bede)

I've played in SG's with Bede. In fact, he was the one who introduced them to me back in 2005. I keep thinking I was in the very SG that I'm thinking about, which means that its either a false clue (I'm not mafia), or I'm going the wrong way with this.

VOTING OVER. I go with the draw that on a tie everybody dies...

Stylesrj was executed by firing squad, proclaiming to the end he was innocent. As the detectives soon discovered, he was. INNOCENT.

Next, Empiremaker was caught trying to make a getaway attempt and ran over by Izipo with Methos's car. But, since General Plot Device had bugged his room, it was clear he couldn't have done it. He was INNOCENT.

Izipo's failed attempt to persuade the others he was innocent ended in failure, as he was blown up by a car bomb. While he was still suspected, in reality he was INNOCENT.

Methos, thwarted in trying to make a getaway in his own car, but was sentenced to death by endless Uwe Boll movies. But his private, hidden diary showed he must have been INNOCENT.

Finally, D’Artagan59 nearly persuaded the others he was innocent, until his own diary was found. He was shot dead, as a MAFIA.

It is NIGHT. Mafia, send in your kills!

Kol.7 was literally scared to death while being Rick-Rolled

Kol.7 is killed while attending the Fictionalia School Graduation.

Around that time, choxorn was seen arguing to tailleskangaru that Socialism, Democracy, and Monarchy were all wrong ideologies, and that a better way was needed. General Device was seen talking to himself about whether to tell Lightfang state secrets (which got out anyway), while The13thRonin and Sirtommygun were seen together trying to persuade somebody of some ideology.

It is day! Vote for lynchings!

Well, of course they're all the wrong ideas. Communism is the way to go!

I just figured out that one of us must be an anarchist.

Nineteen players. Sixteen innocents. Only innocents may have agendas. Sixteen divided three ways is fifteen and one remainder.

Henceforth I believe choxorn is the anarchist.

Two times. He split in two so he could be killed twice. One mafioso is dead.

"MID" Day Count
At 11:30, I will switch to NIGHT, with NO lynchings if nobody votes. I recommend people start discussions and voting.

NOTE: I'm even worse at this then I thought. I accidently made four Mafias rather then three, so there are three left.

To compensate the Innocents, perhaps I should do two lynching rounds? (VIEWS BY PM ONLY, to protect the Mafias)

LYNCHINGS
taileskangaru was killed by leathal injection. He was INNOCENT.

Meanwhile, killfire and The13thRonin were fighting, each trying to slay the other. Stuck in Pi shot them both in the back. Judging by later evidence, killfire was MAFIA, and The13thRonin was INNOCENT.

BECAUSE I put in four Mafias instead of three by accident, there will be a second lynching round.

Yep. Weird isn't it? I was the mafia 2 times in a row. I'm amazed that I was even the mafia 2 times.

I think I made you a Mafia by accident, killfire. Anyway (yes, I'm an incompetent mod), have decided to make a second lynching round.

So another day? By the way, lethal has no A before the TH.

Umm... Did anybody graduate from school recently? It looks like nobody has a rick-roll in their sig, so no leads there...

I DECLARE THIS DEAD DUE TO MODERATOR INCOMPETENCE

I believe Stylesrj wanted to start a new Mafia game?

Shotgun! Hold on, I'll go generate one!
Although as a Mafia n00b, I might need a bit of help. I'll see what I can do though, muhahahahaha!

Alright, so who won? And who were the mafia?

Oh, wait, right, I was one of them. :p

Nobody won, as the game was dead due to Mod incompetence as I said. The Mafia were choxorn, D'Artagan59, Tasslehoff, and killfire. By the end, the Monarchist agenda was weakened and the Socialists near-exterminated, so Democratic was of the agendas most likely to win.

My clue was true.

Way back when I started, I hosted a training day SGOTM as the French. Bede was the trainer.
