And yet another one.

Tolis
Jun 24, 2008, 09:42 PM
And with much trumpeting fanfare and similar silly and pointless festivities, Tolis takes the podium. Nor was it an ordinary podium. It was orantely engraved with shapes of bunnies and sheep. Why bunnys and sheep, no one knows, or even cares, as this is not the story of the podium, even though it was quite a pretty podium. One charming and intelligent, and defiently would make for an intersting saturday night date. That is, if you were above the taboo of dating a podium. But I digress.

Tolis, dressed in the vivid purple robes of his post (although it was never really clear what his post actually was) coughed lightly, raising his hands for silence. But in the caucaphany of sounds and lights and colors, and distracted by the sheep, the crowd paid him little heed. So again Tolis rasied his hands, this time more then asking, but not quite demanding yet. And still he was ignored. Not flusted in the least, Tolis rasied his hands yet again, not only demanding, but with a subtle threat against everyone's first boy child left hanging in the air. And it was literally hanging there. Huge purple letters, matching Tolis's robes, appeared in the air, spelling "SHUT UP OR I WILL KILL YOUR FIRST BORN CHILD" hung in midair. That got their attention.

Speaking through a magically enhanced crystal, speically made for this event, Tolis's voice boomed out across the group of gathered combatants.

"Welcome to the greatest collesium challanges the world has every known. You know why you are here. To determine the fate of your homelands. We, the Imperials, have graciously agree to grant our impartial oversight to this tourment. Now for the rules. Firsltly, save the fighting for the arena. No blood should be spilt outside the arena grounds. Secondly, since there may be childern watching at home on the telly, no foul language. We don't mind our kids watching the violence, just dirty words. Lastly, no cheating."

Tolis claps his hands, and cowled servents, head bowed low approached. Each of them had bunnies and sheep embroided on their robes. They pass out bags to the contestants.

"You have been granted 500 gold peices to spend as you will. Daily you will also be given a smaller ammount of gold. Do what you wish with this gold. There are many craftsmen, mages, and instructors who would help you improve yous skills. Or you could purchase some useful things from the various shops. Or you just could get totally trashed every day."

"Each person has 2 votes for the battle of the next night. The daytime combats are choosen totally at random, as social skills should have nothing to do with an arena. The first day (24 hours) is more of a meet and greet. and then the voting will commence. During this this time, you would be wise to elect your team leaders, who can then change you teams name. While i personally enjoy the anomity granted by a simple name, many people dont share that idea. If you have any questions, you can find me in my chambers."

Tolis stalked off to his tent.

Indeed, this is not the story of a podium, nor even of a wickedly awesome man named Tolis. This is, in fact, your story, and it begins thus...

Horseman sighed. It was beggining to dawn on him that they could not afford to take this contest lightly. At first, he was relying on King Henry and Strategos's known lack of honor to prevent the contest being a serious issue. But he had just heard the news- King Henry was dead.

The new King was the ex-prince, now renaming himself King. He was a traditionalist, and emphasised honor above all else. He supported the contest, desiring for an end to the wars.

Strategos could have asssasinated him, but the newly renamed King took action first. Now Strategos was dead, and if Horseman lost the contest he would be as well. He had no choice- despite his previous plans to contest the revolt, he would have to win or face the destruction of the realm he had fought for...

nice 2 more sign ups. Nahkarma and Bullshido are back! Welcome the false prophet and true beleiver

Bullshido
Jun 25, 2008, 03:27 AM
Bullshido, the true prophet, wise beyond his years, looks around eying the various competitors with a scrutinizing gaze. As his stare shifts to you, your eyes meet his, and it seems as if your soul itself is an open book laid bare. With a smirk your direction he continues his inspection around the room.

Suddenly, his eyes go white for a moment. He holds his head with both hands, letting out an inhuman scream.

"No... make it stop!" he cries, the falls to the floor in agony while rolling back and forth over the ground. Slowly the writhing subsides and the prophet is still. Shaky on his feet, he stands once more.

"These ...fools... have no idea" he mutters under his breath, perhaps louder than he should, "Its coming..."

"It's coming... and I WILL be ready..."

The Dreamer turns off her Celine Dion CD.

Sorry about that. Anyway, can't stop to rest, eh? Got to do some serious training.

Meghghan drops to the ground, fast asleep. Onlookers notice that she appears to be humming the 'Rocky' theme.

The Illusion fades in and out among the crowds, looking for something to do, when he hears the speech.

"No cursing? Ah, ****."

When he realizes others heard him, he fades out of sight to sneak back to his room.

"That was close. Better get practicing to pwn all the n00bs here."

I am the Sacred Fist, guardian of all that is holy in this here fair land. The powers of the Divine will shelter me through this perilous contest, and allow me to serve them as needed.

So therefore I beseech you fair men, let Me, The Sacred Fist, fight that foolish man Nahkarama, The True Believer. I sense that he is not true, and his presence brings me great shame.

Nahkarama! I challenge you to a duel to the death!

Stuck in Pi

The Illusion steps out of his tent, alerted by the challenge

"Very brave, very brave. Making a challenge so early. Sacred Fist, I support your going into battle, and Nahkarama, you will answer his challenge. And being so bold as to go into battle, I'll wager 50 gold on The Sacred Fist"

Having said his peace, he and his five identical appearances walk back into his tent.

A bench. A pile of clothes and rags.

Suddenly, hearing the challenge, the pile seems to unfold, it is a dark robed, hooded figure, with his face hidden. A low hissing appears to come from beneath the hood.

''(hiss) Braaai... Uhh I mean, um errr (hiss)''

The voice seems to change suddenly, it is now bold and strong.

''A brave challenge! Let us see the man ''Sacred Fist'' and (hiss, the voice stutters momentarilly) the man ''Nahkarama'' fight.''

''Illithid bets 100 gold on the man ''Sacred fist'' to win.

The overlord looks at his team. Odd bunch nearly every one of them. Just like himself. He lets a hint of a smile to creep on his otherwise emotionless face. Maybe this will work after all.

Meghghan Psquirrelstone speaks up from the floor, where she is lying on her goose-feather pillow. She still sleeps: but what self-respecting dreamer can't sleep-talk? It's very important for researching the phenomenon, and besides, it proved useful for narrating her Dream Realm victories over countless toymakers in the Grauundgrauundweiss qualifying rounds.

What is this voting? We do not vote yet, am I right? Not for the first 24 hours.

Except, of course, for our leader. I have the greatest respect for a fellow manipulator of dimensional space, so Renata is the obvious choice of leader for Team 1. Isn't that right, Mister Fwuffums?

The Planeswalker watches the proceedings with amusement.

So the Sacred Fist want to see who the Gods really love? Far be it from me to stand in the way. Pinman and Nahkarma to fight.

And I'll bet 100 g on the Sacred Fist, though the odds are not the best. Still, the winnings should buy something. I know! If Pinman wins, I will stand you all to half a sip of beer!

Nah not that one, though that one is a good source info on targets on the area of his bar, I was talk about the one with the over inflated ego that threatened to kill everyone's first born. Now I like threats as much as the next operative but try and be original, the first born thing has been done and is a tad to religious for my taste.

The Ronin is much pleased to see a vile trickster such as the illusionist copping a beating from a leather-clad whip-wielding girl. A visible grin spreads across his face. A sight perhaps as rare as the blue moon itself. Leaning out of his resting place, a shadowed corner of the grounds obscured by the canopy of Tolis' great tent he opens his mouth to speak...

Well, well, well... It seems that there'll be some semi-talented competitors in this three-ring circus after all. One that can make such a base animal dance is deserving of some minor level of respect. If for no other reason than to acknowledge my amusement.

The Ronin bows low to KittoKittoAsa but never lets his eyes drop from either her nor her weapon.

The wizened old woman leaned heavily on her oak staff, following the events unfurling with keen eyes, seemingly taking in everything and a bit more.

Seems we have some people thirsty for blood among us, oh yes oh yes! Wonder why, in a friendly competition like this?

She laughs loudly at her own brilliant joke, bumping the butt of the staff against the ground in the process.

Want me to lead our team, is that so? I will be dee-lighted, yes I would. Lady Luck will luck out yet again, yes she will! But then you need to listen to me, yes you will. Haha, yes you will, and I'm sure you won't like it, they never do those young boys. NO FIGHTING, you hear that, NO FIGHTING! Haha, like you would ever listen to that.

But you there, Sacred Fist, you really should stay your head a bit, I'm sure your day will come. In a rush to meet your maker? Pah, young fools...

I assume we also don't want our kids to see nudity? :mischief:

Perhaps said masher would be a good leader, but he's an NPC. :)

Hmm, well let's see. The Necro-master is a rare appearer, the Forsaken's busy a lot, The Mutant never posts outside of Random Rants and RfMK III, and the Vampyre has limited time (How much?)

Hence, I vote for The Barbarian to lead Team 6.

mythmonster2
Jun 25, 2008, 09:14 PM

R.P:
"You sure you've done it?"
"I'm sure."

Horseman smiled. His old ally Yama would not be sending anyone to the great contest. He was lucky he was able to stop it though.

When the new King of Hagnaught had ascended the throne, he had executed Strategos in retaliation for Strategos planning his assasination. Strategos's sucessor, the would-have-been Advisor XV, refused the throne for the time being. But that was because he opposed the new style of government.

He had switched identities, fled north, and asked Horseman for aid. Horseman was too busy preparing for the contests, and wanted Advisor to learn his new role for himself. But he had been giving advice about the best way to go about it.

King had given strict instructions NOT to defy the contest's results. But this didn't mean he couldn't try to rig things in his own favor. After all, the Imperial agents were said to be doing it, so why couldn't he?

The Void Walker sort of pops into location, having gathered all of Team 8 for a quick chat. As said before, his walk is not so much a walk but rather sort of slipping in and out of this world, popping from point to point along this world and traversing who-knew-what (well, God did, but He wasn't about to tell anybody!) along the way, which just happened to be in other worlds, imperceptible to this one.

"Let me appraise this situation," he says with a lilt like a bird's songs on a beautiful spring day. His head, or at least, the mass of light-sucking darkness that appeared to be vaguely circular on the top of his vaguely-shaped form, seemed to be tilted a bit to the right, as if he were off-kilter.

"We've," he starts, gesturing with his right hand toward the were-beast, "a freaky animal." He continues around the circle, pointing at each person in turn, "a lonely guy," at the ronin, "some young teacher dude with creepy hair," at the mentor, "a mysterious bloody guy," at the blood brother, "and some soulless muddy fighter," at the dirty fighter.

"If I was going to be honest, and I don't know yet, hence the lack of the subjunctive," he says, jabbing a finger with the word subjunctive, as if to emphasize just how learned he is, "I think I would say that I'm the best one to lead this team. You know, as a Void Walker, I've been to places and seen things. I vote for LightFang for captain of Team 8."

He leans forward, putting his face uncomfortably (or comfortably, depending on which team[s] you bat for) close to each other person's in turn, and sort of rotates his hips so that his face is brought in front of each person. The more attentive can see sort of lighter black spots where his eyes would be on a normal person, though they'd of course be the last to call him a normal person.

"Now, there's this matter of a fight. Golly, I like fights. So there's this sacred fist dude, who evidently is pretty religious I guess, and then there's this true believer guy, who believes in something pretty badly. So I think it'll be funny and enlightening to see the two duke it out."

He nods confidently to himself, wondering whom exactly he's assuring with that gesture.

The Mentor, after spending a long time in contemplation, speaks simply.

"Very well. Let us be led by the Void Walker, LightFang. So long as there is another that desires the responsibility, I will not take it for myself.

The Forsaken looks up from his reverie. Sometimes it is hard to believe that he is no longer in his crystal. He was trapped for so long, it's hard to interact with others. Stll, a deal was a deal, and he knew if he wanted to survive he would have to cooperate.

Admittedly, this group of people was not what he was expecting when he agreed with the Benghadii. The people he normally killed were weak, mere peasants, not these legendary heroes and infamous villains bedecked in armor, spells and glory.

The Forsaken reached down with a claw and began drawing in the dust in an archaic language. After surveying his work, and recognizing the puzzled looks around him as people attempted to understand him, he signed and acted his words out.

"I agree, let the Vampyre lead Team 6. Furthermore, I suggest that Team Six be called, from now on, the Shoguns of Destiny.

Additionally, I support my fellow combatants' wishes. Let the Sacred Fist and True Believer compare their faiths and gods. I restrain from betting at this point."

Well well, what have we here. A duel approved by both duelants, or one where one picked the other and the other hasn't had the chance to speak up and where everyone joins the bandwagon. Which one seems most fair, pray tell? Obvious choice to me, but then back in my day there was something called honor. Ah yes, those were the days, those were the days, I remember so well...

The Shaman opens his eye.

He had been quiet since all this started, holding up in his little tent set up on the outskirts of the city proper and involving himself in mystical rituals passed down over a thousand generations.

He had a terrible feeling about it all. He had not really wanted to be here, at this tournament, with the very real possibility of a horrible death. He would very much prefer stay back home studying the scriptures, mastering his arts, and conning gullible shepherds and farmers. But then he has a terrible habit of acting on instincts, and senseless violence for fleeting glory in a mortal contest seemed like a good idea at the time.

Never mind that. He is here, and he know he can not hold up in his tent forever.

With a quick prayer to the Sky Goddess, he stepped outside.

But, this is a discussion for never. I care not what you do. I came to watch some good battles and to fight myself. It has been a long time since I've been so excited, for I've seen many worlds in the meantime.

Ah, now the ronin resorts to lies. Amusing from one who sees himself as so honorable. I have yet to send anyone a letter, bar a reply to you my good sir. Anyone who cares to call me out on that, be my guest. I do find it amusing that you added the end of that as an afterthought. So we have two scenarios:

1: I was going for a "secret alliance" with ronin but they decided otherwise and then tore his letter to pieces and burned it to anger him. Not very likely.
2: The Ronin is lying. Which i find amusing.... I believe the most likely ones to lie would be the agents. Or perhaps he is just dim in the head? That too could be the case. Either way we are better off without him, no?
3: I was dumb enough to admit to the ronin that i was in a "secret" alliance. Wouldn't be much of a secret would it.

That accusation will cost you my friend. This is exactly the type of reason why your word means nothing.

The Sacred Fist paces around the stadium in his standard angry mood, made no better by Bullshido's words. Finally he turns and pleads towards the crowd.

Is Nahkarma such a coward that others must respond to my challenge for him? Does he have no shame? By virtue of his false faith and her very presence the divine is dishonored. I beg of you all to allow me to cleanse this blasphemer from our presence! It is my duty as the true servant of the divine!

Clearing his throat, the Sacred fist glares at Nahkarma who stands expressionless in the corner.

I fear that we shall have our duel despite your fear, you treacherous apostate, and then we shall see who the gods love. Judging by your silence, am I to take it that you believe they love me more? Renounce your beliefs my 'true believer', and perhaps you will still find salvation... in heaven.

The Sacred Fist suddenly turns and glares at Bullshido.

I have no conflict with the Ronin, but if you do, perhaps you two would like to duel next?

My Holiness consume us all, so that we may find eternal peace and happiness with the divine.

As dusk diminishes and darkness befalls the land. The heavenly candles are lit whilst the lowly monks run their rounds.

A quiet whisper from within the temple...

"It is time master."

The Holy Man lifts his weary bearded head, silky grey glistening in luminous sparkles around the Hall of the Gods.

"So it is" he mumbles.

He rises to the occasion, creaking ageless bones grind, and war-torn muscles stretch; "Pass me my staff!" he shouts to his monk companion.

Walking down the corridors of fame. Hangs to the left and right paintings of his predecessors.

"Should I fall this night it would not be in vain, for my days have been long and I have served you all well"

A thousand steps down to the battlefield and he knows them well. For he has cried on them, bled on them, toiled over them, and has longed for this journey for many a long night.

A cold quiet thought, he has had this thought before, but each time the resentment gets stronger....

"At the battlefield they await, fools them all. For what do they know of war, these mindless children. These eyes have seen hell and more, and I have fought battles long before these minors of war forefather's could even talk. Fools them all, and they for their foolishness they will indeed fall."

Another slaughtering awaits, and he sighs one last time...."maybe my end will come this time." And he reaches for the handle of his sword..."Ahhhh....my son, tis another night for feasting."

With a hollow breath echoed in the fires of the earth, the Holy Man bellows his war-cry....

"Let it be heard you fools of the earth; Your god walks before me and you will fall at my feet, or fall at my sword. But you will indeed fall for there is no greater power than I that stands before you. Let it be known there will be blood on this field tonight.....amen.

"The gods have commanded; our team supports the child neverwonagame for he is our chosen one, and you will know that you have met god's fury when you take your last look from your eyes as his blade draws warm blood from your belly.

Amen"

The Holy Man bows his head in quiet prayer awaiting the slaughter to begin.

There is a hissing sound from the heap of rags that is the Illithid. Suddenly there is a loud click, his head twitches to the side and an unusually well-spoken and noble voice comes from beneath the hood.

I vote in support of The Ronin, he has stood down and no longer wants to fight today.

Are thee Kol.7 the face of a tiger and the strength of a field mouse, beckoning me?

You care to raise your eyes from the hood long enough to consider there is another.

Well my young friend indeed there is. And I have been here a long time.
I should prove my faith you say.
Are you man enough to wear that tiger mask that haunts your very being? I reply.

And if I enter the arena; can I pull you by your tale and use your fat little head to beat my opponent with?

mmm....tasty.

''How do you mock me, man of God? You ask me to remove ths hood of mine? Come out of the shadows? Hahahahaa. Maybe one day I will. Maybe one day you will see my true face, but not today.''

The Illithid turns and crawls into his tent, returning with a small, pink object that he proceeds to suck noisily. His red eyes glare from beneath his hood.

Between he and thee the darkness settles.
Wild, untamed winds swirl the dust of ages across this battlefield.
In the distance he who beckons stands, red eyes glaring, haunting the restless child warriors around him.
hmmm a foe to reckon with. Just another victim.
Perhaps there is something deeper in his fiery eyes....an alliance in the waiting.
Who knows.
The winds whirl on and the night slowly passes, both refusing to move. and both in each other's stare.

The Holy Man bows his head again and continues in prayer
for the slaughter draws near.

As for your word, why don't you fill the rest of the competitors in on your secret alliance with Nahkarma and what you said about team five... Something to the effect of "Getting rid of the weak." Wasn't it?
For your information, I have not entered into any 'alliances' yet. I have had a few offers but I do not trust those whose souls do not sing the truth easily. If I end up doing so, it is because I believe I can cleanse those souls of their evil and deceipt.

Secondly, the sacred fist's talk greatly amusing me. He speaks as those his 'god' is real and mine is not. He even convinced a creature of evil to take his side. Suspicious is it not? That one who claims to be a represent 'God' would not shun said creature, regardless of its opinion. One of true faith can not work with such evil. The illithid has no shred of goodness in its soul. It can not be saved. That being said, I have never once said I believe in a god. Just because I am a true believer, it does not mean I believe in a single entity that governs us all and passes judgement. My beliefs are too complex to discuss in a public forum, as some of us might pass out from overexerting their brains...

Looks at the barbarian, among others.

... which wouldn't be fair to them. If anyone wishes to hear a more detailed explanation they can contact me about chatting in private.

I believed that I could change you Sacred Fist, but I was wrong. Though you are not evil, you are too stubborn to be helped. Very well then, I shall cleanse you of your false faith and your soul shall see what the truth is. You will realize that I am right.

The Sacred Fist turns towards the True Believer with a rare smile upon his normally angry face.

Your very words condemn you, and reveal your faith in nothingness. I have not spoken of god, nor do I believe in one. It is the powers of the divine that shelter and save us, that nurture and protect us. It is the divine that I protect, not a god. As for the illithid, it is a creature of the divine the same as you or I, and your beliefs to the contrary expose the fallacy in your thinking. The divine created him, it is not his fault that he bears the shape of an octopus, and yet you would exclude him and torment him. My task is to stand against that, to defend the beliefs of the divine. Let no man discriminate against others for the shape he bears, or the language he speaks. The Divine stands against that! I will stand against that!

The Sacred Fist slowly clenches his palms together and draws a longs word from a sheath at his side.

Still, I am glad that you finally found the courage to accept my challenge and defend your beliefs. You are a blasphemer and worthy of death by my blade, truth, but perhaps the wretched trait of cowardice does not posses you. Although you did try to avoid this righteous confrontation for quite a long time. So perhaps I cannot judge the strength of your character. Regardless, I know who will emerge victorious in this fight, but you may take solace in that fact that you may possess a small shred of honour.

Whirling his sword in his hands Pinman lowers his voice to a whisper.

Your death is near you know, but you still have a chance at eternal salvation. Renounce your worthless beliefs, and accept the true power of the divine. Only then can you find some peace- although in heaven.

Prepare yourself to die you vile defamer.

Finally, having finished confronting his foe, the guardian of the Divine turns towards the others.

Thank you for allowing me to prove the truth in my religion. May holiness consume you all.

Phew! That was certainly a tough training session. Now for a well-earned rest.

She starts jogging on the spot.

Ahhhhh. It's nice to relax, isn't it? But I see that a fight with true honour has been spurned during my sleep, in favour of a pointless slap-fight over religion. I once knew a guy who knew a guy who went into Unreality to see if he could find any gods. If he found them, they wouldn't be Real, you see? A clever plan, but unfortunately, when he came back, he never told anyone if he found them or not.

Some people said that he had found a god, and had been bribed with power to keep its non-existence a secret; others theorised that he had not found one and was ashamed to think that there were beings in existence more powerful than he. Personally, I think he got lost and was too proud to ask for directions. Men.

I might bet, but I wish to see where the odds take us first. I'm leaning towards a Sacred Fist victory, but betting against the Riskbreaker and Lady Luck seems somewhat counter-intuitive. :hmm:

I place 50g on True Believer. I would think 50/50 to win, so with these odd, look like better chance earn more money bet that way. Do your best Nahkarma! I would threaten you if you lose, but since is a deathmatch, not much threat to be made.

Ooh, the fight draws near, and silence settles like a wet blanket on the fireplace of hotheaded youth, everyone looking forward to seeing blood instead of just talking about it. And since I truly hope my young rash team mate prevails, and think he needs all the Luck he can get, I'm going to switch my vote to 50 gold on the Sacred Fist. I don't really like the odds, but I hope you like the gesture, young fool - ha!

End of Night 1

The First Battle

As the crowd slowly settles into their seats, Tolis takes center stage. Surrounding him are rows upon rows of seats, overseeing a polished mirrored surface, a hundred feet side by side.

"Welcome, my brothers and sisters, and anything else. As you may have figured out, the actual battles will not take place here, but through here instead." Tolis gestured and a man-sized glowing purple-blue portal suddenly appeared behind him. "Through this portal lies an environment of whatever we wish. We could go from a tropical rainforest to the blackest night of the void. This is where your battles will occur. And with Nakarma, the True Believer, as the underdog, the choice of arena is his. We shall now test faith in Gods. Which will prevail?"

Tolis gestures again, and Pinman and Nahkarma begin to rise from their seats. Pinman quickly sprung to his feet, and with a single bound, lept over the surrounding wall, to approach the portal. Nahkarma, on the other hand, slowly rose with an almost inpreceptable stagger, eyes red and bloodshot, with dark circles under his eyes. Something seems to be distracting him this day, but no one seemed to know what it was. As he slowly made his way down to the portal, the Sacred Fist has already bound through the poral, the last thing dissappering into the poral was the string of wooden beads hanging arround his neck. When the true beleiver reached the portal, he quickly mouthed a prayer to himself, and with a quick glance over his shoulder, stepped into the portal, but only after a slight hesitation.

Suddenly there was a loud sound, almost as if a hundred thousand people had simultaneously said "whoop," and suddenly the polished surfaced began to shimmer, almost as it had been heated. The waves began to coalesce into shapes. Eventually, the veiwers found themselves looking at the interior of a temple of sorts. Gold leafed pillars cascaded off into the distance, leading the eye to a gigantic statue of marble. The camera switching between combatants, and perspectives changed often, much like watching a live sports event on television. Pinman, in his gold trimmed acolyte robes looked almost at home. He was found sitting cross-legged infront of the statue, head bowed in prayer.

And it began. Unhooking a crude looking mace from his belt, Nahkarma began a warm up of sorts, slamming it into one of the pillars, shattering it into a hundred splinters. Pinman had already begun his preperastion as well, as a silver claw could be seen in his right hand, contrasting to the wooden ring adorning his left. In a fluid motion, the Fist rose to his feet and leaped straight at the Believer, weapon rasised, in a massive overhand blow. As he struck, so quickly were the motions that in the blink of an eye, a cloud of wood shards appeared, obscuring both combatants for a moment. As the debris cleared, the crowd first noticed a massive gash in the stone floor of the temple, and not long after that, a Sacred Fist, kneeling, and nursing a arm that seemed to have an additional elbow. What they didn't notice for a good long time was a True Beleiver, sling at the ready, standing some 50 feet back from where he was standing before.

"Have you seen the light yet, heathen?" came the compellingly deep taunt from Nahkarma.

The only response from Pinman was a grunt, and with a quick twist, he forced his arm back into place. And he was off again, his left arm hanging limp at his side. The True Believer responded in kind, with a flurry of stones that sang as they flew through the air. This time, however, the Sacred Fist was ready, and lept to the side , crouching low behind a pillar. Darting quickly between the pillars and rapidly approaching Nahkarma, the Believer seemed unable to land more then a glancing blow, and more then once had his attack deflected by Pinman's claw.

"What the hell..?" muttered the True Believer, and pointed at the statue at the back of the room.

"You must think I'm stupid," came the reply from Pinman, almost closing the gap.

The statue In the back of the room had taken on a somewhat translucent quality, and began to glow brightly, almost as if a second sun had been placed there. With the sound of a thunderclap, the statue exploding into a blinding burst or radiant energy. The wave hit Pinman mid air, and he was sent flying through two pillars, his momentum only stopped by a third. Yet he was the luckier of the two, as the wave had also picked up the broken pillar on the ground, and sent it flying staight at Nahkarma. Trying to stand his ground against the radiant onslaught, he caught a glancing blow the the head from a flying piece of rubble, knocking him prone and leaving him dazed. It was painfully obvious neither combatant had been expecting that.

Pinman was faster in the recovery, and was upon the downed figure of the True Believer in a moment, aiming a down kick at his unprotected skull. Lifting his mace, Nahkarma caught the Sacred Fist's leg in the down swing, and with a mighty push, knocked him away, sending him flying. Leaping to his feet the Believer rushed after the still airborn Fist. Twisting in mid air, Pinman managed to land on his feet, sliding, left arm still limp at his side. Nahkarma led in, swinging his mace.

As the melee began, the handicapped Sacred Fist kept having to give ground, as both seem equally matched in speed. Blow upon blow were aimed and then avoided, deflected by Nahkarma's mace, or evaded by Pnman's fluid motions. Several landed, but were of minor in nature. Then, after an overly confident attack series that would have been then end of of Pinman, Nahkarma was surprised find his mace arm grasped in the Sacred Fist's left hand. "How was this possible?" murmered the crowd, as they had witnessed it broken only moments before. Nahkarma was also surprised, and as he struggled to free himself, Pinman twisted the limb behind the True Believer, and with the sound of bones cracking, the mace fell from his fingers.

"You haven't heard the last from me, heathen. Mark my words, your soul will be cleansed," cried the True Beleiver as he was launched into the air, with Pinman close behind. At the peak of his flight, he never felt it as the Fist's claws entered his back, tearing flesh and cutting bone, and was sent flying back to the ground at tremendous speed, rasing a could for stone chips and a crater.

The image before the crowd wavered and then, with the sound of a hundred thousand people simultaneously saying "foop," it vanished. Pinman, still floating in the air landed well on his feet. Blood spattered his robes, and his silver claw was now a dull reddish mass of gore, flecked with white bone chips. The remains of the True Believer laid on the ground, neck and back contorted disturblingly, in a growing pool of his own blood. Thus ended the life of one who held his faith in the gods, and one of our stories. But thus began the story of Pinman's rise to glory, or did it?

There is a snap and the dark voice is replaced by a childs voice, high pitched and excited.

''Yeeees!!!! I won!!! I won! My favourite part as when he got splatted! Did you see? Did ya? That was sooo cool! 150 gold on the prophet guy!

Snap

''No! That's too much.'' replied the sleazy, mercantile voice that always seemed to surface around money.''

Snap

''No! He's bound to win! I'm betting on him whether you like it or not, fatty!''

Snap

''You're losing all my gold!'', the merchant snapped back.''

Snap

''It's not just your gold! Its everyone's gold! And that means me, too.''

Suddenly the Illithid begins to scream.

'' 'SsssssSSSssss Shut up! Shut up! AAaaaaAAAaaaHhhh!''

The creature falls silent. The crowd around him avert their eyes and pretend nothing happened.

Looking at length over the battlefield, the smell of yesterday's blood still spritening the morning's dew.

hmmm so the Pinman lives. Would have been so victorious without that luck boost who knows.

"It doesn't matter now" a grimly community whisper slithers from the tents of those counting their winnings slips past the breakfast campfires.

Looking around the battlefield; where is this Pinman now? This victor, this champion.

Recovering? Drowning himself in liquor hosting orgious victory parties?

He will wait for another round....And due to his victory those that lost in the frenzy of last night's gambling will have already marked him to fall for the glory of their gold.

The second battle approaches this eve; doesn't look much more than a puppy fight. Oh well my son; your moment will come and we will draw blood from those before us.

Thirsty? Yes me too. Our wine is coming.

Lets just wait for our turn on the battlefield will come. It always does.

Horseman thought through the events around him, but as was the case a lot of the time his mind was distracted. The questions included who to bet on, his bid for the leadership, and others were on his mind.

He had been helping Advisor on the side in an assasination war against his notional liege. Horseman saw him as a traitor to Hagnaught for actually being willing to abide by the results of the contest. Becoming more and more disloyal, Horseman was now willing to actually rig the contest.

But other, more things had happened. King had, while allowing him to stay at the contest, denounced him as a traitor for an assasination attempt he had suggested. Advisor had been assasinated, leaving Horseman on his own.

Horseman was still determined to assasinate the King, hoping to start a rebellion against his rule. But were his motivations pure?

He began to wonder, for a desire for power had been rekindling itself in his soul. If he were to do as he did to restore Hagnaught, that might be justified. But he would rather die, burn in hell, and let King win then do it for power. Or, at least, he thought he would...

OOC: I was simply RPing- it wasn't meant to be me telling a story IC.

scungebian
Jun 30, 2008, 06:18 AM
I am always RPing thats why I like these games

but to enjoy the RP more write it so others get pulled into the character talk
then they can carry it on with their own RPing.

Simple rules for a good text RP...

lead into it.
develop the topic in the lead in.
then go full speed into RPing
lead out at the end so the reader falls back into "the world of the real"

Example on technique above:

My character is a death knight.

Lead in: Valiantly he rides in through the castle gates expecting to meet the king and tell of his news of victory.
Lead in and topic: inside the castle walls he finds darkness, and gloom. Around him lay ruins, and bodies, victims of a battle lost.
RPing: He reaches for his sword and calls into the darkness; "hear ye! hear ye! Tis I Knight Ploppy of this castle always-summer-days! All that still reside here come unto me in this courtyard this day and we will build an army to redeem our King!"
Lead out: Sadly the hours passed and not a soul came to that courtyard. As a tear turns from his battle weary eyes he requests to vote Somebody for the next battle.

follow a simple pattern like this
and I think your RPing will be great.
trust me I have written alot of rpg games lol....too many maybe.
You've got all the right phrases kid, keep working on it.

Pinman the Sacred Fist looks refreshed and revitalized, having washed off Nahkarma’s blood and removed his weapons and armor. His appearance sparks a wave of muttering, him having just ripped off a man’s head the previous day.

It seems that victory belongs to me and the divine in this round. Nahkarma’s false faith has been revealed, and the light of truth graces us all. I shall say a prayer that the ‘True Believer’ lives up to his name wherever he is right now.

The Sacred Fist lets out a great sigh.

A source of constant sadness for me has been the way that certain people cannot bring themselves to accept the holiness of the divine. If only they had the strength….:(

Finally, having spent a few moments in silence, the protector of the divine snapped out of his reverie.

Well, it seems that there is a bit of business to attend to today, isn’t there? Firstly, while I pray for the safety of the Spellsword, the False Prophet is a man of god somewhere within his tainted soul. Therefore I bet 200 gold on the False Prophet.

As for who should fight, that is uncertain, as no particularly dire challenges have yet to appear. For the most part, today’s selection seems marred by foolishness.
