View Full Version : Kidnapping Working?

I've been playing some games as svart...running my hunters through various ai cities, esp when there's been an announcement "so-&-so great whatever" born in such-& such...but the kidnap button has never lit up.

Was just wondering if it's just my bad luck and the ai doing something else with those great people?

Have others been able to kidnap gps from ai cities?

Ya, I've never got it to work either.

Yep, I've had it show up once in a kuriotate city. Was never able to actually kidnap him, though :(

There was another thread a little while back where this came up. I don't remember what thread though. However, they did find a way to make it work by editing some code. It was probably a thread about the Svartalfar in general. Maybe someone who remembers will be nice enough to post a link here. If all else fails, determined searching will turn it up.

Ive had it to work several times. One game I got 4 great prophets and a scientist from one city. Greatly boosting my economy after I settled them in my city

I seem to recall the problem was how the specialists were being listed. For example Great Sage versus Free Sage, or something along those lines. Either way the end result was they had to edit something to make it work in that discussion.

EDIT

Found it. Here ya go:

Keep in mind the last post in the thread is from April, so Kael may have tweaked it in a recent patch and you may not need to do anything. I haven't skimmed through the patch notes lately so I really don't know.

Hmm...so, it is workin? Well, how come I've never seen it work? Could someone clear up exactly how it's sposed to work with patch h out now? (Kael? You there?)

I've had it work for me (in .31)- i got a prophet and two bards. they were captured with a shadow so i could see the settled great people prior to stealing them.

So, you got it in v0.031? Well, has anyone had it work for v0.032? Cuz that's wat we're workin with here.

I'll try it again, but it has not been successful so far and I've tried several times.

It's working just fine in 0.32i. Keep in mind that it only works on settled Great People, not on the Great People units. So, you have to wait until the AI (hopefully) settles the GP before trying to kidnap, then hope you don't trigger war, then hope you can safely walk the GP back to your territory.

On kidnaping the guy does he get stealth or something? How else do u get him out of the enemies territory and across barbarian territory? just walk him and hope he doesnt get attacked ?

You could use an invisible unit, like a Shadow.

Mostly though, you would cast it while you have peace and open borders. This spell causes war, but you can cast it while still at peace. If you are following CoE, then your armies can stay there to take out the cities afterwards.

Rather, it CAN cause war; it has a random chance of failing and causing war. In maybe 7-8 attempts, I only had war trigger twice, so that's 5-6 free GP. For the first time ever I had more Great Prophets than I could use on the Altar and Shrines.

I think he was referring to the Great Person ("how else do you get him out of enemy territory..."). Just have some units escort him, like you would do with any other defenseless unit in hostile territory.
