What's the meaning of the Confucianism sign in Civ4?

Isn't it just the Confucian symbol, like the cross in Christianity?

I think it comes from the ancient latin word for hippopotamus, in so far as it initially strikes you with the colour white. When one looks deeper into the symbolism one also notices hints of black and even a striking contrast between the aforementioned colouring. I could argue my point further however I think i've said it all

it is a water symbol. i suggest that any civ that founds confucionism should build lots of harbors and triremes and attack the Greeks with their false Posidon.

"THE WATER SYMBOL—Though this worldview is recognized as one of the eleven main living religions, it has no standard symbol or icon representing its belief system. Quite often, though, this Chinese ideogram for water is utilized. It represents the 'source of life' in Chinese philosophy."

As said, it is the Chinese water symbol.

By the way, here's a great quote by Confucius:

"The superior man seeks for it in himself. The petty man seeks for it in others"

And this one, which is the opposite of the Golden Rule, but makes much more sense:

"What you do not wish for yourself, do not do to others"

It works better than the Golden Rule, because with the Golden Rule, if you area masochist, you are justified in hurting someone else, lol.

The picture posted by Salty Mud is indeed the chinese character for water, yes.

It is however not the confucionism symbol used in the game.

This one does probably mean "Lucky" - 吉

no, it means "man dancing on turtle" which can indeed bring luck but only if you don't hurt the turtle. I think that the first Kung Fu kinda guy created the "turtle" style of warfare where u wear heavy armor and hide your head and let the enemy batter you until they go away. It is where the Koreans came up with their amphibeous version for their turtle boats.

"To turtle in Civ have shells of iron and snap later " Attackoism

All i know is that confucionism is my favourite religion in the game,,,, because of its position on the tech tree it is the only one i am guarranteed to be able to found if i am a little bit behind the AI in technology. And Provided i persue code of laws that is (but with city maintenance costs the way they are, who the hell wouldn't!!?).
