Hi All,
I've been trying to run Vanilla Civ4 on XP Boot Camp. It runs great most of the time, but every now and then it will just randomly crash to the desktop. With quick saves it's not too bad, but it's kind of annoying.
Has anyone else experienced this/know what to do about it? Thanks!

You may be experiencing the dreaded MAF (memory allocation failure). This is known problem with Civ IV vanilla and Civ IV Warlords. Civ IV BTS supposedly eliminated this error, but I am not sure. You will notice that you get more crashes as you use more memory - either with larger maps or later in the game. The problem increases with some mods - not the modders fault - just poor programming in the basic game and teh mod increases the memory usage.
Here is a thread with some possible solutions - http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=225205. I have tried this and it definitely reduced, but did not eliminate, the crashes. For me, the fix to the Civ IV executable seemed to do the trick. I did not have any luck with the modifications to Win XP. In fact, those seemed to increase my crashes. However, others have made it work, so I would try it to see your results.
For reference, I am on a 17" MB Pro with Core 2 Duo 2.33 GHz processor, 3 GB RAM and ATI Radeon X1600.
