View Full Version : Small empire - health problems
killmeplease Jun 29, 2008, 04:44 AM I've quite tired of conquest victories so i want to try diplomatic or culture one. I want to have a small 8-city empire for not to bother with lots of cities and defense of wast territories. But how can i get enough health resources in that case? Only solution is to buy them for money, isn't it? I will even can't have a vassals due to small size of empire, them will break off (tougth i think it's just stupid , small England had half an Earth vassalized, i think it must be only power raiting taken in consideration not territory or population).
Polobo Jun 29, 2008, 11:08 AM I would guess that getting the 3 resource wonders would be extremely helpful, if a little late in the game. You get multiple of each you can then trade to pick up most missing resources. Diplomacy is important in that case since you need the AI to actually want to trade with you.
Jewman Jun 29, 2008, 03:47 PM well diplomacy is actually easier to win if ur very big and have many vassals...
Molybdeus Jun 29, 2008, 04:53 PM Expansive helps. You can also play a civ with a unique building that grants extra health. Pacal, Peter and Darius would be good choices.
killmeplease Jun 30, 2008, 06:24 AM unfortunately there's no civ with expansive leader and :health: UB
i think peter is best choise because he is PHI

The Khmer are expansive (Sury) and the Baray is a Aqueduct UB with +1 :food:
The Ottomans (Mehmed) with the Hammam is an Aqueduct UB with +2 :)
blitzkrieg1980 Jul 01, 2008, 01:54 PM Pacal has the ball court, too. I love Pacal, he rocks.
killmeplease Jul 01, 2008, 05:07 PM In my recent game i've started on island with koreans and byzantines, island was covered with jungles, and there were many die and spice resources (5-6 of each i think) and 2 shugar. i killed koreans and got control of all those resources so after discovery of astronomy i traded them for food, so i had no problem with health.
i think it is one of possible strategies to conquer these calendar resourses, they tend to be placed in huge packs and it is not so hard to get control over all dye or any of other calendar resources. if they are on the different landmass, those conquered cities may be liberated, but i do not know is it possible to demand all of say dye resourses from a vassal or only one..
unclethrill Jul 01, 2008, 05:11 PM Hospitals and environmentalism are important too. Depending on the win you are going for, you can sometimes just deal with the unhealthy and keep moving forward.
blitzkrieg1980 Jul 02, 2008, 09:13 AM By the time you get Hospitals, you're not far at all from Recycling Centers. These are definitely the only thing you will need for late game health. No sickness from buildings at all. Forge, factory, coal plant, airport, dry dock, IRONWORKS (!!!), will give you NO unhealthy faces. Only population and power. You should be able to easily combat that with aqueduct, resources, granary, and grocer (if REALLY necessary, hospital). I feel like environmentalism is not worth the high maintenance cost and loss of trade routes (or reduced maintenance for State Prop)
