Hi,

We play on Noble setting, and my boyfriend ALWAYS beats me at civ  He can always easily beat me in war so there's no point me even trying that route, and he is always first to snap up a couple of religions no matter what I do.

Can anyone please give me any tips for winning space race or cultural? I usually seem to do ok till about 1500AD then I just take a big nose dive, lose all direction in the game and get my butt kicked :(

It's about time I showed him who really wears the trousers around here! Please Help me! :goodjob:

IF you 2 play heads up there are a lot variables.

if there are no other AI, what settings do you play?
map? (both on same island of different landmasses etc)
techtrading allowed and how do you 2 work that out if it is?
what civs do you 2 prefer?

and basically if he kicks yr butt in a war you dont have the right units probably. or not enough.

i think we nee more information :)

or i completely misunderstood and you guys are trying top eachother highscores on noble vs AI.

Ahh sorry, yes I should have given more information

We usually play the following:

marathon
large map
4 continents
4 AI + us 2
I either use Willem Van Oranje, Catherine or Pacal
He can use any random civ and still kick my butt

Maybe I just suck so bad at this game that I will never win! I have won a few games on the same setting against AI. But we have yet to actually complete a game because it gets to the point where I am so far behind we get bored

Follow a tech bee-line for Bronze then Iron making, spam a load of Axemen and kick his sorry butt.

He's not better he's just been playing it longer!!!

early rush an unsuspecting neighbor and seize his/her capitol/holy shrine. after you get CoL/courthouses, rush another victim.

large map with 6 civs, thats plenty of room and no need to rush a neighbour imho. it will just cripple your economy.

i would advice this start with rome, if you choose another civ, then its mining as first tech to research:

if yr near water with a seafood, build a workboat first, as soon as yr city hits size 2, build a worker

meanwhile research bronze working then mysticism

time yr first worker with the invention of bronze working so can you chop a forest or 2 to get 2-3 workers.

as soon as you hit mysticism : chop stonehenge

then research the wheel and pottery next

spam cottages everyhere while researching agriculture and founding 2 or 3 new cities in good spots (resources!).

then either iron working for a war vs neighobur if you have somebody close or beeline priesthood for oracle for Code of Laws slingshot. if yr able to get code of laws (remember to finish researching writing before oracle is complete) you should be able to build courthouses everywhere for a good economy and you can colonize all the land you want. Also, stonehenge should bring you a great prophet soon for extra money (build the church in the holy city). in fact if possible, build oracle in the same city as stonehenge, but only if you are sure you willl finish it in time. getting the oracle right after completing writing is more important then stacking the wonders.

dont forget to build pretorians for defence even if yr not planning an attack.
you are playing a human being so he can decide at any time to invade.

from here its all situational. either wage wars but since thats not yr style, build a great defence (with at least 5-6 prets as flexible defence army in central of yr empire) and beeline currency and go for huge science run.

And never, ever automate your workers

seriously

never.

Goodluck!

hehe, I only recently started losing(prehaps my generals lack eternal vigilence like they used to have? or prehaps i'm to hard on my troops?)

I used to always crush things with military might, but as an old civ gamer(not real gamer, just been playin cive for the past 9 years) I'm only 18 so I can't call myself an old gamer, I've settled back, become more peaceful, and my favorite qoute is:"What I cannot crush with words, I will crush with the mighty tanks of the Imperial Guard" St. Macharius(WH40K)

not afraid to fight, just... gettin bored of it, looking for something more fulfilling, I can command many legions, but I do it to often, lords and kings have knelt at my command, entire empires fates are at my fingertips, crushing them with just a mere gesture, or letting them live.

or I vassilise them and force them to bring a number of men at arms to fight in my wars from across the planet(though the world is still not enough) why should I be content with one insignificient nation? when I can have the entire world?

I've actually seen wars as my last resort if I cannot crush my enemies with words.

As also a wise servent would serve the tongue as his best and worst meals, you all know what I'm saying.

I have the SDK files, but it's a bit complicated, I'm used to rummaging rthrough files, but these are to many and to big, is there anything that controls unit rules? or how can I make the earth mape where you can choose any leader you want for that civ?
