Hello there all.
I've been working on my first monarch victory and I'm pretty confident that THIS game is it. I play vanilla civ 3. But if I win this game I'm pretty sure I'll purchase C3C.
I'll note also that I use CivAssist II.

*start*

Civ: Aztecs (I'm very into those jaguar warriors, they almost make aztecs an expansionist in addition to the other 2 traits!)
Map: standard pangaea standard rules and sedentary barbarians. Medium setting for all the rest.
*Uploaded the 4000 BC save.*
I start by building my capital right where the settler starts while my worker goes to irrigate the square next to the lake and goes for the wheat.
My city pumps out 3 jaguar warriors which are sent to explore. Then my city produces a settler who founds the second city near a river.

*Long gap*

My jaguar warriors were succesful. One of them got anhillated by an angry barbarian village but they did fine otherwise. I found a lot of goody huts and succeeded in trading techs.
My lux silder was at 20% while my science slider was at 80%.
I soon traded maps and found out rest of the world. My cities still growing and pumping settlers and workers. Also I built some temples to aid me in not getting main cities culture flipped.

*long gap* It's 290 BC and my empire has reached it's limits on all sides

*posted save*

I now think of ways to conquer other lands. but first I must improve my land and make sure that my cities won't flip. As you can see from the 290 BC save my plan has already worked and Nottingham (along with furs) flipped to me.

I'm planning on invading some of the nearby countries once I catch on with chivalry.
I'm afraid of building wonders because they can be a double-edged sword, nevertheless I have 2 prebuilds, a palace and the great library. I might swap one of them for Sun Tzu's.

I have a little bit problem with science. If I put the science slider high I still can't keep up with other civs and if I try to trade they ask for insane prices (approx. 1200 gp for monarchy, counting gpt) and other civs have very little money so if I sold techs forward, I would get something along 150gp back...

That's all for now. Now I shall return to my efforts in improving the small land I have.

Congratulations and good luck!

Have you decided which VCs you'd like to try for?

I think conquest or spaceship.
Diplomacy is pretty dull if you ask me, they always find some way to break treaty X and trash my rep.

I have done well now. I did a few mistakes but I think they aren't fatal.
I have planned attacking the french with 20+ knights once I get chivalry.

It took a while because my science slider was at 0 % and the other civs searched for it pretty late.

However my first attack wave on french succeeds! My knights pound on their spearmen and pikemen. Now is the turn to heal and produce more knights and catapults.

How do you make it so that the screenshots appear in the middle of the post like that?

I think conquest or spaceship.
Free advice being worth what you pay for it and all that . . . ;) You might choose sooner rather than later which you'd rather have. It may have an impact on how the game plays out. For example, I think I see Russia as your neighbor. For conquest, eliminating Russia early might be helpful. For spaceship, they might be worth keeping alive (though I would still cripple them), so that you can bargain for their freebie techs when they change ages.

Anyway, I'll be following with interest.

If you quote his post, you can see how he used image tags to put the screenshots in.

Alright

Heres my initial attack with 20 knights

http://img399.imageshack.us/img399/6831/civ3tk4.jpg

The attack succeeds! They only have longbowmen, pikemen and spearmen. They are no match for my knights.

And I get what I want...

I shall use this leader to form an army of cavalry once I invent military tradition.

The french also net me a nice four wonders. Paris gives Sistine Chapel, The Oracle and the Great Library. And last but not least Charters completes Magellan's Voyage one turn before I capture it!:p

I choose to keep the french cities and luckily due to France's low culture, none of them flipped. I made them all build temples as quickly as possible.

Only one french city remains and it's behind the Iroquois land. The french are as good as done. That's when I demand peace. I grab printing press and chemistry from the french.

Now I'm the biggest nation and I'm in a turning point of the game.
I plan to accomplish a domination victory.

The nearest and weakest nations are England and Germany. So they're next on the menu.
I finally build my forbidden palace (I know it took a bit too long) and swap my government to democracy. This boosts my income to over 150 gpt if not counting AI trades.
I start to amass cavalry and quickly attempt to capture Germany in a short war. I experienced very little war weariness and I got the germans downed in under 10 turns.
http://img337.imageshack.us/img337/4996/civ3oo8.jpg

I demand peace once All of Germany's lands are taken except 2 cities which are far away. One of them is on the other side of England and the other is right next to France's last city.
From the germans I acquire nationalism and The Hanging Gardens.

I start to build temples in the old German lands. Now my plan is to use the same cavalry with some boosts to conquer the English.
This is because they are far behind me in tech and they have Incense.

I might have to capture and then abandon and then settle with my own settlers this time because the American culture is very strong and will most likely flip the ex-english cities to them.
I also have the Military academy almost ready so I will most likely have another army to help me conquer England.

Oh and since I have lots of coal and steam power. I shall have to increase to amount of workers because my lands are growing big.

Here is my game at the moment.( I hope it uploaded OK)
The save's name means "turning point #2" in my language.

One thing I noticed in your first screenshot is alot of irrigation during despotism. I think most of those tiles should have been mined,(except the cow, on watering your cow) especially the Bonus Grass tiles, your shield production is a bit weak in your core. Also, I see workers roading hills and chopping jungle while your capital is working unimproved tiles. You are doing well, but worker efficiency is the key to playing better. As far as captured cities, I would keep them, flipping should only be a nuisance at Monarch level, and you have plenty of culture. Should any flip to America, you can always kick their butts too!

Alright! Soon after germany fell I quelled the resisters and moved onto England.

Succesfully creating a great leader in the process I totally annhillated England.
http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/7048/civ3st8.jpg

They were weak and lacked in science due to their tight position between me and america. I captured the cities, then abandoned and then settled with my on population and after that I built temples to fill the gaping holes in territory.

Now we were talking!:king:

Here begun my final plan to ensure total and absolute victory.

My plan had multiple stages

First build Universal Suffrage and trigger golden age.

Second set it so that I acquire scientific method on the same turn

Third use my palace prebuild and build Theory Of Evolution in one turn.

Fourth choose atomic theory and electronics

Fifth use my last prebuild, the intelligence agency and complete Hoover Dam in under 10 turns.

Sixth and last use my great leader and a pack of cavalry to conquer the last german city and palace jump with great leader resulting in ultra low corruption near my forbidden palace.

I amassed some gold in trades and was prepared to break some treaties after my plan comes to fruitition.

I had timed my plans almost completely.

First
http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/4043/civ3az8.jpg

Second
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/4760/civ3zj6.jpg

Thirdhttp://img184.imageshack.us/img184/6545/civ3fk2.jpg

Fourthhttp://img410.imageshack.us/img410/1653/civ3ud3.jpg

Fifth was a failure on my behalf.
in my stupidity I forgot that Hoover Dam needs fresh water in order to be built...

However It was only 14 turns in my best city due to golden age. I went for it.

Sixth (now fifth... Here I broke ROP and an active peace treaty, but it did not matter anymore) http://img379.imageshack.us/img379/3171/civ3zu7.jpg

At this point my incomes were so big that I began to head towards synthetics fibers as soon as possible.

Before Hoovers completed I attacked Russia with the help of MPPs ( I intentionally failed tech steal)

Russia was a tough one. Their Cossacks destroyed my tanks against all odds but my Stack Of Doom consisting of 70+ artillery I built during my still on-going golden age pretty much destroyed them.

I abandoned their cities and filled the land with my own settlers.

At some point of the war I was forced to declare war on Iroquois too.
If I hadn't; my MPPs with both America and Iros would have caused trouble.

Surprisingly I managed to complete Hoover Dam with golden age ONE turn before the greeks!
http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/5733/civ3nh6.jpg

As a last bonus from golden age I could research at 80% and complete techs at a fast pace while buying techs from greeks and americans. Meanwhile my mighty Stacks Of Doom consisting of tanks/artillery crushed Iros and Russia

http://img387.imageshack.us/img387/8804/civ3xs9.jpg

http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/79/civ3ez0.jpg

I did not capture the Iro cities so my palace in Bremen would still reduce corruption a bit. I captured Salamanca because there were the Pyramids and free granary in all cities sounded too good.

Like luck was on my side. I completed synthetic fibres with my last funds just in time and now I could put science to 0 % and upgrade all my tanks to modern armors and begin my final assault on America and Greece.
As a final straw, Tenochtitlan had been building Army and it finished that turn. Also I produced two great leaders in wars against Russia and Iroquois.
I used them to form armies as well.

At this point I had one tank army + 3 empty armies. (Russia took down the cavalry army I had with ONE Cossack. (even though the army was yellow-lined.

Stay tuned for my last invasion. (and my many mistakes that happened)
