View Full Version : I cant believe I brought this tripe
john428 Jul 05, 2008, 01:12 PM What were the makers thiking when they released civilization revloution.
Its the worst civilization game I've ever played. Even Civ2 on PS2 was better than this rubbish.
I have to say that I think Civ1 is even better than it. At least that was open ended if you wanted.
It seems to me they've made half a game and released it to make a quick buck. Why else would they step back 10 years?

I disagree 100%. This is one of the most fun Civ games I've played to date, including the Activision spin-offs, previous console versions, "Net" versions, etc.
Perhaps you should spend more time with it. It's a hell of a lot of fun! :)
someguy486 Jul 05, 2008, 01:17 PM Why else would they step back 10 years?
To make it less complicated for us console dummies :D
john428 Jul 05, 2008, 01:25 PM I brought the game this afternoon. I have played it once on Deity level and won the game in 2 hours. Wheres the fun in that?
The game is not polished off very well. One irrating fact besides the fact you cant play on after victory is building units and buildings. When all buildings and wonders have been built you are forced to build units forever because there is no off switch or divert to treasury option.
It also seems like there is no maintainance for units which means the next time I play it I suspect I can win in 30 minutes. All round this is a pathetic game and it will sell very poorly when the word gets out. I hope this doesnt ruin the brand name because I love civ games. The best one so far is civ3. Civ5 should be civ3 + the new additions found in civ4.
TheMystic Jul 05, 2008, 01:29 PM Way to judge a game when you just bought it and played one game. Why don't you play some more games, try other civs, try different victories, and jump online to play a few games with some of the top players.
john428 Jul 05, 2008, 01:32 PM This isnt a game, its half a game.
There is no need for me to play it ever again because its no differant from other civ games except half the games been removed.
Another point. How come I cant even disband units?
john428 Jul 05, 2008, 01:33 PM In fact I'm going send a complaint to the producers of this rubbish. I want my money back. 39.99 for this is pathetic.

This is not Civ 4, you can sell units by clicking the right stick. You are over-reacting majorly though. Instead of treating this as a new invention of the Civ franchise, you're expecting everything from the PC on it. Why don't you pay attention to all the new content they've added in the place of what is different from Civ 4.
I think it's really sad that you're writing it off this quickly. As I said, I personally thing this is one of the best civ games yet.
john428 Jul 05, 2008, 01:41 PM This game needs 6 months more work doing on it.
I cant see how you believe this to be the best civ game yet. Go get yourself a pc with the civ collection. Its much better.
Even civ2 was better on the playstation than this.
Thrallia Jul 05, 2008, 01:52 PM I brought the game this afternoon. I have played it once on Deity level and won the game in 2 hours. Wheres the fun in that?

Only Civ4 ever had the option of transferring your production into gold or science.

You can disband units by clicking down on the left thumbstick.
This game needs 6 months more work doing on it.

The game is complete...perhaps you should have actually read what the game was about before buying it. It was a simple matter of finding out it is not the same level of complexity of the PC civs.

I have owned every Civ game since the beginning. I'm 29 years old, I was playing the first Civ when I was 12 or so. I own every game, every expansion, etc. So I don't need to "go get myself a PC".
Civ Rev is great. You're entitled to your opinion, but it's pretty sad that you're viewing it this way when you just started it this afternoon.
smithobiffo Jul 05, 2008, 02:56 PM i for one love this game, with the regular play mode, and the extras game modes that vary the challenge, i can believe that anyone could right it off after just one game:confused:

I'm confused... Where did you bring this game?
Oh wait, I get it, you mean you BOUGHT this game, not brought it...
We really don't need spelling/grammar police....
john428 Jul 05, 2008, 05:41 PM I cant understand why there are a few who like it.
There is a lot less strategy in the game too. Ok I now know you can disband units but even so each city always has to be building something or else it pops back up at the end of the go. Thats annoying there should be a way to stop that.
And if they sorted the game out so you can play on after victory it would then be approaching okay.
Akalabeth2 Jul 05, 2008, 06:01 PM I stopped reading when you said you like CIV3 the most. Lost all credibility.
My favs are
CIV, CIV4, REV, CIV3, CIV2

Go into manual worker mode, customize your tiles so they're not working any production, and build a unit, wonder, or whatever else you'd like. The city will leave you alone for awhile, and with very little product, it won't be churning out units every turn.
Widowmaker313 Jul 05, 2008, 07:33 PM john428, there are lots of people who like this game, its just that the people who like it are busy playing and not whining and complaining.
Thrallia Jul 06, 2008, 01:43 AM every single Civ game ever has required you to have something building at all times...the only ways to stop it from asking you what to build are to bring your production down to 0 or build something that takes a very very long time.
pileofnuts Jul 06, 2008, 02:55 AM I personally like the concept. But the actual product isn't what it could have been in my opinion. The AI is not very good at all and I would really have liked it to be improved before release. The developer could atleast have included another difficulty level where the computer controlled opponents get a massive bonus to offset the bad AI.
There are also a few too many bugs left of which two are a real pain. I would also agree that the inability to convert hammers into gold or some such is a bit annoying in the late game.
Lone Wolf Jul 06, 2008, 03:47 AM Only Civ4 ever had the option of transferring your production into gold
Civ3 had Wealth, Civ2 had Capitalization (which, hovewer, wasn't avaliable from the beginning).
Marlowe13 Jul 06, 2008, 05:58 AM To make it less complicated for us console dummies :D
You said it, not me. But I heartily agree, that's the one and only purpose of this product. I played the PS3 demo for 5 minutes out of curiosity. It was everything I expected--Civ For Real Dummies.
exclamatio Jul 06, 2008, 07:08 AM i think it suits console play perfectly
i do not want to sit down with my 360 and have to micromanage what type of toilet paper each of my 10 billion citizens are going to use to wipe their arses
there is enough depth to make the small decisions important and effect the game as a whole yet at the same time to pace is kept high enough for a console game, great job sid!
PieceOfMind Jul 06, 2008, 07:24 AM I don't know if I will bring this game now since I have read this thread. :)
Seriously though, I would have to buy a DS and I can't find too many other worthwhile games to justify the purchase. But enough of my life story...
I would expect CivRev to be a fair bit easier than the previous civ games, but it worries me people are already mastering Deity level. The replayability of the game is what is still being tested and this is not a good sign.
By the way, I have no idea how it would be possible to get a patch for a DS game, firstly because I've heard there is no PROM or flash ROM, and secondly how to connect to the internet without any other console available.
Reds4ever Jul 06, 2008, 08:13 AM I've had the game a month now and I'm really enjoying it. I've played all the Civs (Civ2 a hell of a lot) but I don't really want to spend 20+ hours on a game anymore, the 4 or 5 hours CivRev takes is a great way to fill an afternoon.
Its CivLite for consoles, but no worse for it IMHO. I don't know what people expected, it was perfectly obvious where the game was being pitched from day one...
john428 Jul 06, 2008, 09:36 AM I played it again last night and megacited. This game is poor.
Civ4 is not the best in the series either for the person that wrote that because you are really only fighting one opponent even though they are presented to you as differant civilizations. They work together against you.

No they don't. I'd be surprised if you even have one AI feature or game rule to back that statement up.
There are the odd differences between the AI-human and AI-AI diplomacy, but they are hardly enough to turn the game into an AI vs. human player only game.
Have you never seen an AI declare war on another AI in civ4? Maybe you haven't played the game?
Grumbles69 Jul 06, 2008, 09:47 AM If you bring your citizens inside your city they produce trade +1production. Build Caravans and sell them as they are completed. Its quick, it pays off, and it stops going into the city all the time

Nonsense. Why do people make up things like that?

they are just ignorant and wont try somthin :(
im new
TheMystic Jul 06, 2008, 07:08 PM I'm starting to think that this John guy is just trolling everyone. Either that, or he's the most angry and judgemental gamer ever.

Im sorry john that i dont have time to play an 8 hour game.
Im sorry that i dont want to save the game 5 times and play it for the whole school week, just to finish a game.
And Im sorry that finally i can play 1 or 2 games a day.
I apoligize for doing other things in the day

it is worth buying a DS just for the advance wars games
PieceOfMind Jul 07, 2008, 07:40 AM it is worth buying a DS just for the advance wars games
Even just for single player?
Actually I have AW so I'm a little familiar with the series, though I think it has progressed a fair way since that game. I might have to wait a while for when the DS (lite) is superceded and becomes cheaper as a result. By then I'll know whether CivRev is worth it too.

Well, you should be sorry, since you're a self-professed 'civoholic!' ;)

Um, its just a name, i thought it was kind of funny.
Whats with your name ''dojoboy''?
Padma Jul 07, 2008, 10:08 AM Okay. John's entitled to dislike the game, for any reason at all, including "none whatsoever". It's his personal opinion, and he's entitled to it, and he's entitled to voice that opinion on these forums. But this thread has just gone downhill, very quickly. So:
Thread closed.
