It seems that I am unable to install Civ4 (vanilla) in my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X Version 10.5.3, 2.2. Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, GeForce 8600M GT).

I have, per instruction, copied “Civiliation IV”-folder to my hard disk (at the root). However, at the very start of running the game, the application comes with a following error message: “The application Civilization IV quit unexpectedly. ...” The game cannot be open at all!

I have noticed that many files and folders were not created during the installation.

"Civilization IV" folder which contains the game applications
"home folder\Documents\Civilization IV" folder
"home folder\Library\Application Support\Civilization IV" folder
"home folder\Library\Preferences\com.aspyr.civ4.plist" file

Is there some preferred location to copy Civ4-folder? I have three partitions, two with Mac OS X, and one with Vista (I am running Boot Camp). Can this be the cause of my troubles?

Kind regards
Kalkas

You should probably not put the Civ4 folder at the root level of your hard drive. I never put anything there, but I don't know if this is your problem. I recommend putting it in /Applications/

Your hardware and OS sound fine.

The fact that all those items were created in your home folder means that the game started and did quite a lot before it crashed. Can you find the crash log? Have you checked in with Aspyr Support?

Hello,

Thanks for your reply!

Yes, I have contacted Aspyr and reported about my problem. I have also sent error-rapport to Apple. I will try your suggestion to install it in the Application folder, although I would prefer to install it in another location due to the space issue.

Kind regards,

The fact is that they were not created at all. Those folders were not created during the setup.

Sorry, I misunderstood. You are saying you expected those folders to exist, but they don't? They are only created when the game runs, and it apparently hasn't run far enough create them in your case.

The crash log may still be helpful ... but so may Aspyr Support. We don't provide official support for their product here, and we have no inside track.

No problem:)

I was just curious whether someone else had encountered such weird installation-problem.

I have tried your suggestion, about installing it in the Application folder, but it didn't work.

I expect that Aspyr will soon reply to my inquiry.

Anyway, thanks for your reply.:)

Kind regards

Are either of your OSX partitions case sensitive? I know that is a problem, but I don't remember whether it is the partition that Civ4 is on or the home folder.

Good point. I suspect both folders should be case-insensitive.

Yes, I think that they are not case-sensitive, but I will check it out.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Aspyr had replied to my enquiry. They said that I had to run "Repair Disk Permissions." They also said that it would be best to install the game in Applications folder.

After I repaired the disk permissions, I could run the game.
