View Full Version : Simultaneous War declaration
Dragonstring Jul 07, 2008, 01:07 AM I'm not positive this is a bug or glitch, but it freaked the hell out of me!
I'm playing a huge map game on prince difficulty, and all of the sudden, all of the AI nations declare war on me simultanously, no reason, no personal message (you know how the AI leaders like to gloat before they attack you), and it happens regardless of our relationship or the fact that i had an active peace treaty with a couple nations. I restarted a few turns back, trying to change the course of history a little bit to see if that averted it, but it still happened. I haven't tryed to go many turns back yet.
I was curious if this was well-documented or if i've stumbled upon a bizzare glitch.
J-man Jul 07, 2008, 04:37 AM Probably an AP resolution, do the AI's have a religion you don't have?
Dragonstring Jul 07, 2008, 10:59 AM i'm on unfriendly terms with all the AI players except for one (who, coincidentally, also shares a religion with me), but they ALL declared on me, not just the unfriendly nations, and like i said above, regardless of any peace treaties.
ori Jul 07, 2008, 11:02 AM as J-man noted - it is most likely an AP resolution for a crusade against the infidels (you) - but you could post a save so we could check it. It would be best to have one just prior to the war declaration :)
Welcome to Civfanatics :)

this is the turn right before it happened
Note: in case this is relevant, i'm still playing with 3.00 (what can i say, it's a remarkably stable game!...or at least was). Also, what's an AP resolution? sorry for sounding like a n00b.
Edit: oh right apostolic palace! whoops! i don't think that can be the answer, since only some of the nations are the same religion as the owner of the A.P.
ori Jul 07, 2008, 11:59 AM I'll look at it after work today :mischief: If I don't post by tonight just remind me :)

I didn't look at the save but the AP can be the answer even if some of the nations have the same state religion as the owner of the AP. They only gotta have the religion, they will not be full members but voting members.
Dragonstring Jul 07, 2008, 12:51 PM hmm, i checked and sure enough, i'm the only nation without a [I]single[I] city with buddism (the AP religion). But why would my closest ally declare war on me? couldn't he have defied the resolution? unless...damn backstabbing AIs... ;)
ori Jul 07, 2008, 05:48 PM :hmm: I cannot reproduce the war declaration - but you are indeed the only non-AP member so this is the most likely explanation...
Dragonstring Jul 07, 2008, 07:52 PM If it's not happening to you, then perhaps it has something to with my not having a patch. On the other hand, from all the 3.17 related bug reports, i'm reluctant to update my game. If it is the doings of the AP, would i really not recieve any kind of warning? I would think there would be at least some sort of message saying all the buddists have declared war on my infidel butt...
ori Jul 07, 2008, 08:08 PM there should be just a small notice in the event log - but the way it is set up it gets drowned out by the war declarations - you should find it by looking through the log though. You can open it by holding alt-tab at the same time :)
What problems with 3.17?
Dragonstring Jul 07, 2008, 08:51 PM I checked the event log and there is no message telling me the AP has declared open season on me. just a bunch of war declarations and deal cancellations... perhaps it's a glitch after all?
ori Jul 07, 2008, 08:56 PM everything is possible - but difficult to test - could you post a post-war declaration save? I'd just like to see it myself :scan: of course if it is a bug it might just have been fixed with the patch :crazyeye:

done and done.
On a side note, i tried to auto update last night, and it never did it. Is there a link to somewhere i can download it?
ori Jul 07, 2008, 09:06 PM the ingame updater is broken, use this:
http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9800
:hmm: sorry I cannot find any culprit for this in the save either. Ah well if it happens again in 3.17 post a save - if it does not maybe it was fixed without telling anyone about it :)
Dragonstring Jul 07, 2008, 09:22 PM Oh, i forgot to ask if the old save games are still compatable with the new patch. I couldn't find that mentioned anywhere one way or the other. Also, if that tank barrage glitch is still a problem, i may leave this patch alone for the time being...i LOVE barrage! :nuke:
Thanks for all your help up to this point, too. :goodjob:
Update: After getting creamed by the combined forces of 3 warmongering nations, i gave up and installed the patch... and thankfully the war declaration of doom didn't occur!
ori Jul 08, 2008, 04:25 AM the barrage promotion on tanks does not work anymore - solver's unofficial patch while fixing the underlying code for modders removes it from tanks as well - however this removal is done in a separate file with no other fixes, so use this installer (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=9891) for it and UNCHECK the option to have barrage removed from tanks.
earlier saves *should* load fine in 3.17 :)

This is definitely a bug, just happened to me in my first game with the new patch. Every other civ declared war, and I didn't even get to see their faces and final declaration ("I suppose you understand this means war", ...), which I believe *always* happens. Just the message in red.
ori Jul 09, 2008, 08:44 AM actually this again sounds like the AP - you don't get contacted for this war declaration...
