I get that this isn't an expansion, but will the main civ 4 game be getting anything out of colonization, specifically the enhanced graphics???

Maybe the mod for the graphics or a patch will surface, but except for new terrein, I doubt it.

I really doubt that they willl update civ4 now because they have new graphics. there is nothing wrong with civ4 as it is - nothing that bothers me at least. Sharper textures will not really enhance the experience at all to me, and I think it will be very low on the priority list of the creators. I do not think they will update civ4 with colonization graphics, or colonization whatever for that matter.

I imagine it means new leaderheads for mod material.

It was mentioned that CivCol would bring "a nifty map editor".... hopefully will be something better than WB and hopefully there will be a civ IV version of it ( if firaxis doesn't do it ,probably the modders will )

Because it uses the same basic coding as Civ 4 some of the features in Colonization may well be easily transfer one one to the other, with any luck!

I made a thread about this here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=280915

I really hope that Firaxis will update Civ IV with the new flashy graphics and effects in Colonization.

Well I may get laughed at for how much work it would be but has anyone thought of just going the other way around. Just bring all of the Civ 4 stuff into Colonization. I would like to see the quantified resources, the trade system, and the specialist in Civ 4.

I just am wondering if anyone else had thought of some hybrid product. Really will not know if possible until release of the game. But I am under the impression that the SDK and Python will be available and can be altered in Colonization.

I would very much like to see the leaderheads make their way into Civ IV, either as an 'official' bonus that comes with buying Colonization (unlikely), or as a community mod on this very site (let's face it: inevitable).

To me, Colonization is twice as exciting- both as a game in its own right, and with much in the way of new leaderhead, city and unit art which should be simple to mod into Civ

I doubt you'll ever see colonization assets, like leader animations plugged in Civ4 as part of community mod, since that would be illegal (Colonization assets that come with game are not free for use for other games, like Civ4).

In same way, as you can't port Portugease civilization to basic Civ4 without BtS, by taking BtS assets and making mod for basic Civ4.

I suppose. However, I do think it is a shame that Civ IV won't get the new stuff, and I hope (although it is very unlikely) that Firaxis update Civ IV so it includes some new art- after all this would hardly affect sales of Colonization as it is a new game in its own right.

I think people will still use some of the assets for public mods (and definitely private mods) but no one is going to make a "Colonization Upgrade" mod for civ that directly ports all the leaders, units, terrain etc. over to civ - (unless Firaxis do themselves).

However, I think people can get away with just taking small pieces of colonization (maybe a modified leaderhead for example), and mixing it in with their own work.

Or they could just use a huge disclaimer telling people to buy Coloinization first, before they download their mod. ;)

I think it's fair to say that a lot of the technology (graphics and otherwise) and interactions (like natives) used in Colonization will find its way in some form another into Civ5.

Things I would fully expect to see from Col2 integrated into Civ5:

* The graphical upgrades, obviously, especially the water.

* The "barbarian villages" in Civ5 will probably borrow at least some degree of interactiveness from Col2, so that you have the option of either wiping them out or trading with them, etc.

* Huts will probably borrow a bit of the exciting flair that Col2 puts into burial grounds, with better rewards and stuff.

* Civ 5 will probably use the road system of CivRev, I hope. That was probably the one thing I liked the most about CivRev. The roads.
