As a male i prefer playing with male leaders (but maybe it s not everybody's case ;)). So i think it will be interesting to create a random gender option in the civilisation's choice screen like the "@random alignment" one. What do u think of that idea?

Personally, I couldn't care less about the leaders gender. It doesn't really make any difference.

Ah but it Os-Gabella is your enemy....

Yeah, you don't actually see your leader or anything once you start the game. I mean, you can even change your name to something masculine if you want.

there are ingame consequences to gender tho (leader reactions from os-gab and falamar), so its not merely superficial

Yes, and more than the game diplomacy's changes, some arts always remind me my leader's gender : portrait in"dawn of man"; in diplomacy(relationship), military screen and info screen(stats). The name of your leader is also present when you look at traits on your civilisation's flag.
And because i think FFH is the greatest mod by far, it needs to be the more realistic as possible.

Realism? Even ignoring the fact this is a high fantasy setting, the menu screen used to choose a leader isn't part of the setting and adding extra options there doesn't affect the feel once the game is started in any way.

Same here. It ain't as if it matters anyway; the AI don't care and chances are your buds don't either.

Two AI (Os-Gabella and Falamar) do care about gender. I sometimes prefer to play as a female (since there are no advantages to being male in this mod), but I don't think the preference is great enough to warrant another game option/random leader mechanism. It would almost certainly be more trouble than it is worth.

I agree. It means more work. And why do that work when you can pick a male or female anyway? Sides, some people might not like it.

You could always use a randomizer function on a calculator or simple computer program, do a random 1-16 (or however many male leaders there are), and then "manually" select your "random" choice. Or if you don't like technological answers, get a d20 and roll it, ignoring numbers which are too high for the number of male leaders in the game.

Why would their gender bother you? That's silly. Choose them for their traits.

What do u think ?

For my part I don't care, but I didn't care about the alignment choice either.

Oh, and if people would spend less time argumenting the pro's and con's of such a thing that obviously just matters for a relatively small percantage of users, I bet you'd already have your customized pick-leader-by-gender-option by now. ;)

Wow, i didnt thought about such answers, but no matter, that only was a suggestion. I only like to take lessons from amazingly clever people ;).

Also, three civs have only one leader (not counting the Illians, Mercurians, and Infernals which you can't start with), so you would never get one of those depending on which gender you choose.

Besides gender only matters to Os-Gabella and Falamar due to FFH2 lore reasons. Falamar is your stereotypical swashbuckling rogue who likes to charm women. I'm not sure about Os-Gabella as I haven't had her in my games (I try to make sure I don't have the sheaim in my games, for some reason, unless I'm playing them).

Gender really has no basis in FFH2 and has been so from the start of the Civ series, it's the traits that really matter here.

And they say FfH is misogynistic

smjjames : because i play a personnal modmod with 3 leaders by civs and because i like to play random leaders to adapt myself to the one i get that i thought it could be a decent idea. And i thought i was not the only one in that case.

Os-Gabella give a minus 2 "You lack Grace" diplo penalty to male leaders.

-2 now? I thought it was -4. But either way I don't feel the flavour is worth the degraded performance of the Sheaim AI, as hating everyone usually leads to falling behind technologically due to reluctance to trade resources, techs and open borders. I would just drop the penalty altogether.

Might be, I don't pay much attention to her.
