Okay, I've just run into the Space Race victory crash problem, and the solutions listed in the sticky thread don't work.... I even replaced the Space Race victory .BIK file with a blank one that was originally used in the Warhammer Fantasy mod (to skip over the victory), and that didn't work.
The thing is, I never had this problem until I replaced my old GeForce 4 with a new GeForce 6200 card.... I'm assuming, since the card is brand-new, and I used the CD to install the drivers that the drivers should be up-to-date, but I could be mistaken.
What I want to know is if there are any other solutions, or a way to prevent the game from playing the video at all, because having the game crash every time I build the damn space ship is getting very, VERY annoying.

The GeForce 6200 is an older card so if you got the drivers from the CD, you have drivers back from when the CD was burned, which could be old drivers. Go to NVIDIA's driver download page (http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us) and search for the latest drivers for the GeForce 6200 and install those. Hopefully the drivers are the only thing that's causing the problem.

Have exactly the same problem on my Radeon 1950 Pro. The game exits immediately after pressing "launch".
I've used the Bink file viewer successfully to view the movie and its intact with no problems at all.
Tried playing at default res, replacing the file, no sound and pressing a key as fast as possible after pressing "launch". So far nothing has worked with C3C. I have successfully done a vanilla civ one by being very quick with pressing a key so the video doesnt get a chance to play.
The intro vid on my system is also very choppy in-game but is fine out of the game using the viewer.
Oh I've also tried using no sound acceleration as well.

One thing I tried which worked some of the time is to go to the Sounds directory and find "SpaceLaunch.wav" - copy it to another folder then copy some other wav, rename that to SpaceLaunch.wav" and put it back in the sounds folder. Overwrite your original file.
I just tried it now and the movie worked.

Still no permanent solution to this? Replacing the sound file works maybe 1 in 10 tries. I still cant reliably gain a space race victory.

Go here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=144699) and try what they did, it has worked for everyone with a problem like yours. It was recently dug up from the depths of the tech support forum, and it's a working fix. It turns out that it might not be the audio or video files, but that the hall of fame file is installed as "read only" and crashes each time.

Hehe....also tried this as well. My file is already writable. I checked all my files the game writes to. They are all writable.
Its unusual for nothing at all to work, or even make any difference whatsoever to the outcome.
Just keep reloading and reloading and reloading...eventually the file may play for long enough to get that enter key pressed and you can get past the movie. I managed it on maybe my 15th try this game.
If you play Civ you have to be patient :)

Are there any patches that fix the Space Race victory bug? I get to the end and hit launch and the system crashes.

Joined up to put those of you still losing hair to this out of your misery :goodjob:
[That last game took FOUR flippin' days, and I was not best pleased to have my victory snatched away by some piffling video bug ]
