I decided to take a large map out for a spin with Julius Caeser who has become one of my favourite leaders.

I'm not sure if the AI died but Inca still only has three or four cities in 100AD on Monarch and I have... well... look for yourself.

The tundra at the left has one or two passable spots and there is still unexplored jungle, but my limit has been hit. Also note the city right next to Moscow. Tee hee. I got Antium razed because I placed it suckily.

So I'd like to see people try this and see how they do. It's a Large Map/Low sea level though, so laptoppers and old pc owners beware :(

At least take a look at the save. I'm somewhat proud of it.

Overall, nice job, but I wonder about not getting currency sooner...perhaps you could've ran more scientists in established cities?

Raze the rest of the AI's to get gold to fund research up to col? Seriously dominating with romans at pretty much any difficulty isn't all that hard :p.

You're making 7 science/turn. Not good!! If you have a standing army, keep marching and let the loot fund the deficit research. In case you can't get the cities and raze them, pillage the improvements like mad. Despite the crappy economy , I don't see you losing this game. Research Currency and CoL and chop/whip Courthouses everywhere and your economy will be in good shape by 1000AD.

7 :science: is 2 scientists + the base beaker ... for 14 cities is really bad :(. Will give it a try , just to see if I can save this wreck.....

Switch all cities to worker production until you have 21 workers (1.5 per city).

Connect every city to your road network.

Run scientists in all library cities to discover Currency faster.

Your early strategy involved rexing and blocking the land, but I wouldn't have founded for example the two (what-seems-to-be) jungle cities in the SW.
Better to let them develop the land a bit while you settle more valuable cities and take them a bit later (and even get gold while you conquer).
