Hello again!

As I mentioned in this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=261105) thread, I have devised a plan to achieve all the requirements for four of the six legs of the Elite Quattromaster Challenge.

I will try to post a thread around every two weeks with the game conditions, and then some highlights of my game, and encourage others to do the same. I also open the floor to discussions of strategy, as the regular HoF'ers never cease to amaze me with their insights into the game.

Round 12: Joao-Chicka-Joao-Joao!

One of the seafaring leaders, on a map with some seafaring possibilities, and the chance to take over the world! What could be better?

"Required" Settings:
Expansion: BTS
Era: Ancient
Civilization: Portugal
Victory Condition: Domination
Game Speed: Epic
Map: Medium and Small

This also marks my first drift away from my spreadsheet; this was originally a quick domination to be followed by an epic diplo. I reversed the game speeds because quick and war go so poorly together.

Here again are the opponent requirements for various map sizes.

Mapsize Minimum Maximum
Tiny 2 4
Small 4 7
Standard 6 10
Large 8 14
Huge 10 17
Remember, Duel Maps are ineligible for the Elite Quattromaster Challenge.

Joao is Imperialistic and Expansive, both empire building traits. The settler bonus can get you an early builder start, and the extra GG points are excellent for crushing your opponents later. His UU is the infamous Carrack, in which you may take your military overseas very slowly prior to Astronomy. The UB is a customs house that also acts as a mini-colossus; unfortunately customs houses aren't nearly as useful when you're killing all your opponents.

Joao starts with mining and fishing.

If you're interested, the current best dates for a small map are:

Deity srad 1275 A.D.
Immortal The-Hawk 1262 A.D.
Emperor Spoony 85 B.C.
Monarch denze 685 B.C.
Prince Drool 445 A.D.
Noble RandomMG 515 A.D.
Warlord Shadowsong 115 B.C.
Chieftain Hindi 115 B.C.
Settler *M* 1850 B.C.

and the current best dates for a standard map are:

Deity No Entry
Immortal grangerm 1262 A.D.
Emperor The-Hawk 815 A.D.
Monarch Moonsinger 5 A.D.
Prince Jack LEagle 1721 A.D.
Noble Jack LEagle 1238 A.D.
Warlord DeafDolphin 1676 A.D.
Chieftain *M* 100 B.C.

685BC thats going to be a pretty tricky time to beat.
start the strategy discussion rolling: i reckon best plan will be conquering the whole of the starting continent then beelining for rifling and astronomy.
whilst hoping the other continent has a slow tech pace

If youuse maximum opponents, you should have enough for domination on the larger continent.

I'm pretty sure that date was not achieved on this type of map.

lol absolutely, but as Oz says it may be possible if you get a slightly larger than average continent, have lowered the dom limit and can grab some islands

Sneak Peek for bestje; as always, though, subject to change!

Jap Dip Arch Q
May Rel RF N
Mal Spc Frac Q
Celt Conq High E

Japan and Mali are Vanilla, Mayans and Celts are BTS games. RF is Rainforest, High is Highlands (not Global). I think the rest is obvious.

Thanks! fingers crossed for a very speedy upgrade to 3.17 or one that takes just the right amount of time.

Finished this round with a 19xx win; played on a small map with 5 opponents
183354

started off sharing one continent with Gandhi and fred so had that all to myself fairly early on (280 AD to be precise)

183355

the other continent had Monty, Izzy and hatty so was a warzone with Hatty getting dogpiled, suprisingly she was still teching well and wasn't being overrun

My initial attempt at invading the weakest of the 3 Izzy didn't go too well as I got AP dogpiled (I hate that option so much) and I had to make peace with her and Hatty as I was getting overrun by huge stacks of obselete units.
I went and took all Monty's island cities instead then vassalised what was left of him and fairly quickly afterwards Izzy then I only had to take a couple of cities off Hatty and I had the required land area

And the world at the end looks very dark green
183356

not a great date but not bad considering the intercontinental map type and how rubbish I am at domination victories
Monarch level EQM machiavelli completed! :king:

Yeah, yeah. You already know what the next one is anyway :p. Come to think of it, you've probably already finished it. ;)

I was late finishing this one (I submitted Sunday night, will get to the writeup soon.), and will post the new one then.

Anyway, I was a couple of days late on winning this one, as I had a lot of starts where it was going to be a long haul IF I won.

The game I ended up playing was really fun, though. My starting continent was two islands. I marked starting positions on the map.

http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g221/Bindamel/beqm/beqm12/oldportugal.jpg

Roosevelt had the most room to spread, but he didn't do a very good job of it. Copper and Iron placement worked in my favor, as I had one of the two copper on my island, and one of the two irons. The other copper and iron were in the extreme southwest and northwest corners; Rosie never really made use of either.

I had a combat1 CR3 spearman by the time I had cleared my island. I'm not sure I've EVER had a combat1 CR3 spearman before, but all Rosie or Vicki ever had were horses.

I took out Washington (Rosie's capital, George wasn't in the game ;)), but had to make peace as he had manage to sic both Bismarck and Vicki on me. Bismarck didn't really bother me from the other island, though.

So I followed through with Vicki. Declare on me, will you?

Then finished Rosie:

Then east, in my Carracks (yes, galleys would have worked just as well across the one-tile strait), to Bismarck:

and his neighbor, Cyrus.

The other island had a weak Izzy in the north, Asoka in the west, and Mansa in the east. Asoka was the land leader, and even with Mansa in the tech race, but they were both about even with me.

I took down Izzy first:

After Izzy died, Mansa vassalized to Asoka voluntarily  I pushed on with Cannons and Infantry in the first wave, and Artillery and Tanks in the second. Both Mansa and Asoka had tanks in the last few turns, but it was way too late:

I won in 1875, bestje 1907, both of us on small Monarch. I'll add both links to the first post, although mine won't show until the next update.

Round 13 coming up soon!

Congratulations, a pretty convincing win for you. especially as it looks like the tech pace on the other island was much the same as your own. In mine by the end I was light years ahead when its tanks against Muskets its not even close.

Am now on the far side of the world from home so just submitting pre played games but I did get them all played.
