Hello again!
As I mentioned in this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=261105) thread, I have devised a plan to achieve all the requirements for four of the six legs of the Elite Quattromaster Challenge.
I will try to post a thread around every two weeks with the game conditions, and then some highlights of my game, and encourage others to do the same. I also open the floor to discussions of strategy, as the regular HoF'ers never cease to amaze me with their insights into the game.
Round 12: Joao-Chicka-Joao-Joao!
One of the seafaring leaders, on a map with some seafaring possibilities, and the chance to take over the world! What could be better?
"Required" Settings:
Expansion: BTS
Era: Ancient
Civilization: Portugal
Victory Condition: Domination
Game Speed: Epic
Map: Medium and Small
This also marks my first drift away from my spreadsheet; this was originally a quick domination to be followed by an epic diplo. I reversed the game speeds because quick and war go so poorly together.
Here again are the opponent requirements for various map sizes.
Mapsize Minimum Maximum
Tiny 2 4
Small 4 7
Standard 6 10
Large 8 14
Huge 10 17
Remember, Duel Maps are ineligible for the Elite Quattromaster Challenge.
Joao is Imperialistic and Expansive, both empire building traits. The settler bonus can get you an early builder start, and the extra GG points are excellent for crushing your opponents later. His UU is the infamous Carrack, in which you may take your military overseas very slowly prior to Astronomy. The UB is a customs house that also acts as a mini-colossus; unfortunately customs houses aren't nearly as useful when you're killing all your opponents.
Joao starts with mining and fishing.
If you're interested, the current best dates for a small map are:
