Okay, so I started a game with Spain the other day, and set up a snaky continents archipelago map with low sea levels. I got a great start as I'd hoped for, except for the fact that there are three peaks in the BFC.

There is no way for me to settle a good capital here without having at least two peaks in my radius. Why did I get 3 peaks here? (I am using 3.17 BtS, unofficial patches etc if that has any relevance). I mean it's not like the start is overpowered or anything, and I figured playing on archipelago would diminish the chances of this happening. Granted, those peaks aren't a huge problem early on but with all that food around it seems the city will become hamstrung later on when it will only reach around size 20. I dunno, what can be done in these situations? Would you have settled anywhere else?

It's not the end of the world, but I sincerely hope you have the broken random events turned off...

Huh. What's further south of that southern goodie hut? Looks like a semi good spot...

Huh.
I would guess Me's talking about the volcano events...

It sure would suck to have your capital demolished... :)

Volcanos I can deal with. I need to go into the XML and turn back on Tsunamis. Woo....

There wasn't much else down there, just more jungle. Looking at the screenie again, if I was to move the capital, right where the NE goody hut seems okay even. I can't remember what else was up that way, but spending 2 turns getting the settler there is questionable for me on emperor. Settling there would then allow a later city to be built 2S1W of the original spot -- this would net all resources bar the cows with no peaks at all in either city. I wonder if I still have the save...

Hey, look on the bright side, you might get lucky and get the truffle event on of the peaks. I know I had that one and was flabbergasted and afterwards laughing really hard.

What's with the forested mountain peak?

(At least that's what it looks like...)

The Map Generator got a guilty conscience and tried to make amends.

There is bound to be a volcano random event, if random events are on. I hate volcano's because they can completely destroy your towns and villages. I once had four villages destroyed by one of them and it was mid-late game. So they weren't coming back.

The eastern peak is unforested. Perhaps there's horses on it!

It looks like an excellent start to me - plenty of food, three hills for production, coastal access without loads of crappy water tiles, lots of forests to chop, and a very nice range of resources.

I'd take that over a mediocre start with no peaks any day of the week.

After all, getting a strong start is far more important than having twenty workable tiles in the late game.

Peaks in the bfc really doesn't matter much.. This game i had a couple peaks in my bfc but it didn't hinder me much :p.

What map script is that? I've only seen peaks in capitals on highlands.

Mine are from highlands at least...

Peaks (forested peaks) also come in on the islands map script as well as custom continents IIRC. Also on Great Plains.

Agreed...you have a very strong start there. In addition, 2 of the peaks are forested, so that's a permanent +1 health bonus!

Peaks in the BFC are very common on Archipelago -- you just have to learn to accept it.
