Hiya all :goodjob:

Okay, first off this ain't toned to be a racial message. I mean the Japs in game, not out. :p

Last night I WAS having a fantastic game of BTS on Warlord. I, General George Washington :king: of the American nation, grew to a fair size. Not ever warring or demanding stuff from others. I wanted to win, if I could, Diplomatically.

Somehow everything was going so right. I could hardly believe I was doing so bloody well. I had the Japs to the east, Hannibal to the south and Babloyn to the north-west. The Dutch and the Portuguese were further away and were riding the scores below me.

Then, well, something went wrong, der der der, i.e. 'drum roll'. From the south hordes of Hannibal troops massed on Atlanta, their swords in hand, catapults ready and no real reason why he would want to attack me. I had just traded him a good tech and he was pleased.

My Longbow's were ready though, fighting off everything they could with their arrows and if they got to close 'pow' they would hit them with their sticks, bows, etc.

2 turns later, never spoke to him, the Japs cam in from the east flooding New York like a plague of locus' swarming, observing, want new terroity for their ever growing colony of disgusting meaningful lives. Thankfully, my Longbow men saved the day.

But they wouldn't give up and when I asked the assistants of the Dutch they refused to aid me. Bloody Oranje, in real life in the 17-18th century that guy ruled England for a time, to aid in their fight in the colonies of America. No wonder why he wanted help me!

With all this my score slumpped I lost the plot and I failed. My question, yes with all this there is a question :p. My question is how does one make sure to get on with leaders and do you really have to war in this game?

While I was warring, every town starved, the Dutch/Portuguese made wonder after wonder and I was last on score board. Reloaded my saved in but I got the war again!

Please help!

Cheers:goodjob:.

Appreciation from Private Freddy.

1. You do not have to war to win.

2. Certain leaders declare war even at plesed. Tokugawa sounds like that kind of guy (that makes sense) but I'm not sure about Hannibal. Hannibal does declare war, though. It's not as if he's a Mansa Musa or Gandhi.

It sounds like your power rating was to low. Check the demographics, being lowest in power is not a good idea.

By the way: Willem van Oranje never ruled England, that was a different Willem.

I find Hannibal to be a bit opportunistic early on. He techs well but will occasionally dow early if your power rating is not that high - even if you're not next door.

You can win without war, but that's more difficult than winning with warring - at least in my opinion. Playing nice with some leaders is a good idea, but some will attack you even if you do get along. If you want to keep someone as a trade partner, best not a rogue leader like Monty or Shaka. Hannibal is less aggressive but will occasionally attack, Toku is nearly impossible to get along with and even if you do get along he's never going to be useful in trading.
