*Update* See bottom of this post for screen shots.

In my recent BtS 3.17 game I declared war on and captured all the cities of one of my rivals who had built the Apostolic Palace. It was still the middle ages and my state religion matched that of the Apostolic Palace's.

However, after the war was over (and my rival was eliminated), I noticed that only some of the temples/cathedrals/monasteries got the production bonus. In some cities that hadn't built them yet, it would say that building them would give the bonus - but in most others, it didn't. All of the cities had the state religion in them and by this time I was the leader of the Apostolic Palace.

Is this a bug or am I just unclear on the requirements for a city's religious buildings to get the production boost from the Apostolic Palace? In the past I thought they all got it as long as the state religion was there and you didn't defy any resolutions (which I hadn't).

Here are four screen shots showing the issue, all from the same turn of the game.

Christian Holy City (captured from Pacal), showing production bonus for current and unbuilt Christian buildings:

Small, non-special city captured from Pacal: all Christian Buildings (built and un-built) with production bonus

My capital - no production bonus now or if I build it.

Pacal's Captured Capital - again, no production bonus now or if I build them.

Correct.

I'll have to post a save or screen shots tonight after work. I'm glad others think it is a bug, too, and I'm not too crazy. :)

You only get bonuses to the AP religion buildings, not all religion buildings. Ex: Christian temples will give the hammers but a Jewish temple won't(Assuming the AP is christian). That sounds like whats going on here.

Nope. The Apostolic Palace is Christian, but the buildings I'm talking about are all Christian buildings. Some Christian temples give the bonus, others don't. No sense.

It's a semi-common deep glitch in Civ. It happens with the Madrassa too.

Have you defied any AP resolutions in the past? That will stop the hammers in all your cities that have the AP religion at that time. You also get a -5 happiness penalty, but that expires with a timer. If you add the religion to other cities afterwards they are treated differently from the original cities. If you subsequently vote in favour of an AP resolution that passes the hammers will be restored to the AP religious buildings. Can you remember (or look up in the log) what has happened with the AP resolutions? I suspect that answer lies there ;)

Nope, no resolutions defied; it was fairly new shortly before I declared war.

Actually, about half-way through the war a vote was raised to stop the war against Pacal, and I voted No (NOT defy resolution), which prevented that resolution from passing due to vote count. Still doesn't make sense why some buildings get it and some don't. I'll have to post some screen shots later.

I have only seen that happen when a resolution is defied. You lose the hammers in all the cities you owned when you defied the resolution. But if you are 100% positive you did not defy, then it must be a bug. Perhaps a glitch with voting "NO" or something. What order did you capture the cities? Did you have his Cap when you voted NO, and only recently aquire the city where its working correctly?

Nope, never defied. I hate the unhappiness penalty and in this game I controlled the majority Christian population so I had no need to.

I'll chalk it up to a bug. Can this post be moved to the bug reports forum or should I post it over there?

Did you check whether you really didn't get the hammers? Maybe they aren't displayed but you still get them. Like the official patch 3.13 where buildings didn't display culture but you still got the culture when they were built.

I have definitely seen this happen before in one of my games. I don't recall if I defied anything in that game, but I was definitely only getting the bonus in some of my cities.
