I'm playing on noble vs AI. I'm Carthage and I was attacking an Ethiopian city with my chariots. After losing a bunch of chariots I finally slaughter the one axeman there and take the city. It's automatically burned and I get the gold, without even a choice of installing a new governor! What gives? Is there some rule I'm forgetting?

It was probably a city with only 1 population, they're auto-razed.

Or you are playing a one city challenge.

Facerapist,

Cities that have never reached size 2 will be auto-razed, unless you have "no city razing" turned on. If a city grows to size 2, then gets starved or whipped to size 1, it will not be razed.

A city of 1 population that has a culture greater than 0 will not be auto-razed, unless you are playing a one city challenge.

Alright that explains it then. He had just put the city up in a spot I had deemed as "mine" so I attacked him. His city never got to grow. Thanks folks.

Yeah, size 1 cities are auto razed. Thats why I tend to wait for a barb city to be size 2> when I capture it (kinda off topic, but relates)

That's not true. I've had cities of pop 1 auto-raze even though their borders had already popped once.

I have had level 2 culture cities autorazed. It has to have reached pop 2 at some point to not be auto-razed.

I was gonna say...

I mean seriously, is there no forum policy on usernames?

wannabewarlord,

You should see one of the other forums I post on. They permit any type of name, virtually any length. (It's a forum based around freedom of speech.) There are users named f--kyou, ratf--ker, breasticales, michaelmoron, etc. I find them to be hilarious and I get along with quite a bit of the users with the offensive names. It's taught me that user names mean nothing.
