Or something like that? I had that in a game (first time I ever had that type of unhappiness)
I wouldnt say it crippled me, but in my larger, specialized cities were getting affected...Didnt feel like raising the culture slider to 50-60% to combat the anger.
Why was that? Different religions going to war (he declared first). I remember not voting for one civ for the diplomatic victory (duh) but other than that, I dont believe I did anything wrong.
Thanks!

well i didnt have much of a choice. it was down to 3 civs with the other 2 civs being extremely friendly. If i had voted one way or another, I woulda lost since i controlled one continent with the most votes (but half of the total), I couldnt vote for one or the other. ;(

In terms of diplomatic victory, you can always abstain: that is essentially a vote for nobody. However, a diplo victory vote would not result in this since that resolution cannot be defied. You had to have defied another resolution if you were getting "The world considers you a villain!" as your unhappiness cause. It does go away eventually. ;)

Who cares what the rest of the world thinks?? It's just a game. Destroy them all. :king:

Okay, you got to put thought into your resolution voting. If you suspect another civ is going to win by diplo victory UNLESS you vote 'never', then of course if you want to continue with the game, you must vote never. however if you think you can win the vote democratically simply by voting 'no', then that is the choice you must make. every action has a consequence lol! In one of my recent games i have been facing consistently unfriendly AP votes asking me to return cities i to two bit empires.
At one point, that caused me to have +10 unhappy faces, that is a lot to deal with it at the higher difficulty levels..
in any case, i had no choice, ihad to crank up the cultural slider...however it did have apositive effect, it allowed me to top the 50% mark of my own culture in the cities concerned. that meant i stopped getting votes on them and solved my crisis.
there is no way to get out of a plus 10 unhappy faces situation EXCEPT to either increase your happiness ratings, or to live with the unhappyness.
if it comes down to garrisonning an extra 10 archers in your city, if you can afford it, then so be it...
you have to make the choice and live by your decisions if youre a rogue state.!
honestly speaking though, if you're in a situation where your empire isnt large enough to stop a diplo victory unless via 'never', the game is already lost, you dont have enough population and other civs dont like you enough =p

Dresden is correct, you cannot vote "never" on a diplo victory vote. Hence, you must have voted never to a war, or to stop trading, or to a city transfer, or civics change, etc...
As to the red faces, they do eventually go away. I'm not sure what the time limit is, but they do expore.
