To my surprise, there is not a FAQ page or common problem page for the PBEM games yet. So I start this new thread.

I am having a problem with a PBEM game. We are trying to run a PBEM game on GEM mod. When I finish my turn and pass it to the next person, he can't load the game. So I went back and try create a dummy save (just create a game and end turn) to see if he can open it. He can open the dummy game with no problem. And so I start another game and make my moves and send the new saves to him again. He can't open it as well! The only difference between the dummy and the real save is that, one has all the moves and one doesn't!

Can anyone give any hint or help? :cry:

I cant really help ... I can only point towards the problem with PBEM on some Mods.

I tried to start a PBEM on Road To War. Only one player could reliably open the file I sent ... noone else could. I got a couple of guys to start dummy files and sent to me which I could open no problem but when I returned the files they still couldn't open them. We never could work out what the problem was.

I have looked at the thread you are running on and it sounds very similar to what I experienced.

I think I remember seeing somewhere in the thread a suggestion you may be using Blue Marble. If so, this MAY be the problem.

I have never had any problem opening any PBEM files but a couple of days ago I installed Blue Marble and suddenly I cannot always open PBEM files, even after uninstalling. Just a thought.

We have found out the problem. I just like share our findings here in case other people are having the same trouble.

DO NOT set an admin password for PBEM game in the staging area when starting a game. When ever it is set, other people just can't open the save game. This is a simple solution, but we still don't understand why the game designer would make such a trap.
