View Full Version : Noob like question - please help
sanjay_111 Jul 19, 2008, 01:29 PM Hi,
I play a peace game as Gandhi and want to keep the military to a bare minimum required to discourage attacks by aggressive and defend in case they choose to attack.
I read about a "power rating" on the forum. There is even an RPC going on which shows the power rating. I have to no idea how to see the power rating. I have opened the "options" on the menu but do not see any option that will enable me to open the power rating of various civs
On Miliatary advisor screen, the only info available is the number of units each civ has WHICH I HAVE ALREADY SEEN through my scouts or because my cities are very close to theirs. It does not show any unit I have not seen through other means.
Please tell me how to see the "power rating"
Second: In BTS, when an aggressive attacks, it comes with like 20 catapults / trebuchet. In vanilla, AI was less intelligent. I could defend my cities with like 6 units at most. Now all units are weakened to the point of uselessness by catapults / trebuchet and then the AI easily captures the city. This is something I myself did when I attacked other civs in different games but do not know how to counter this when AI does.
There must be some trick which will help me defend against lots of artillery units. Please tell me if you know any.
Thanks
say1988 Jul 19, 2008, 01:44 PM The power rating is one of the graphs on the demographics screen. You need sufficient espionage points to see an AI's in BTS.
Silver21 Jul 19, 2008, 01:56 PM Yeah, the power rating is on the graph, far right option int he top right corner(picture of a little graph) If you have enough EP, you'll be able to see the Ai's. About defending against big stacks, the best defensive is a good offensive :D
say1988 Jul 19, 2008, 02:17 PM for big stacks of siege, use mounted units that cann flank them. This is weakened in 3.17, but still good. If there are lots of other units, you will need to resort to your own siege.
Mike Feury Jul 19, 2008, 11:24 PM The power graph is via the F9 key, and click "Power" in the drop-down menu.
In addition to Horses and Siege, some Drill promoted Archers will help defend your cities--I think it's from Drill 2 on where they suffer less collateral damage.
thadian Jul 20, 2008, 04:21 AM you can also use "pawns" to block their movement and other units walking next to their stacks to divert the battle away from the area that threatens your cities.
the AI sends in "clumps" but has no unit management skills. It doesn't see you dropping a pawn - it sees a stranded unit and will usually bite the hook. sometimes in a bottleneck edge (where your on a one-space land tile that has 2 spots next to it you can move to using it) you can post units there and sometimes they even let a whole stack of mounted units through to choke them if they see another stack in the bottleneck.
sanjay_111 Jul 20, 2008, 04:40 AM Thanks Guys. I can see the power rating now.
Thanks also for info about flanking and drill.
I have another question now. I can see the power rating only of my immediate neighbors (three of them). Why can't I see it for the rest ? Is it because of espionage points ? I am running espionage at 0% and whatever is accumulated is assigned (through espionage screen) to the immediate aggressive civ.
GooglyBoogly Jul 20, 2008, 05:28 AM If you want to see more detail ingame about assigning espionage points i recommend you install the BUG Mod.
This mod does not change any of the game rules, nor gives out any hidden information (although some of it is pretty obscure)
dragodon64 Jul 20, 2008, 05:44 AM Mounted units can flank those siege weapons and damage/destroy them. For the horse to do this, it needs to survive combat. This can be done through victory or retreat, so Horse Archers with Flanking I+II do pretty well since they still have a >50% survival chance against pikemen.

Passive Missions: you gain the benefits of passive missions automatically once you have accumulated enough espionage points against an opponent. You can lose these benefits when your opponent spies more on you than you do on him.
Passive Missions allow you to see an opponent's demographics and cities, to have access to an opponent's city screens and knowledge of his research.
Active Missions: once you have accumulated enough Espionage points against an opponent you can perform active missions against them by sending a spy into their empire. Active missions allow you to change an opponent's civics, steal his techs, cause his cities to become unhealthy or unhappy or even to revolt.
You can either focus all your EP on one opponent to have enough of them to do active missions (mostly steal tech to help the search, or revolt a city if you're at war), or spread them to get the benefit of the passive missions on most of the AIs.
