View Full Version : My first Deity game; no cottages!

Here's my first deity game that I've played past 3000BC. At one time I had the tech lead, although now I seem to be slipping a little behind.

Would be curious to hear what other ppl would do now if they were taking over the game.

I'm playing as Elizabeth of Portugal on a huge Terran map with 11 other civs. I only have 3 mainland cities, but have just recently begun the colonization/pacification of New Portugal where I now control 3 new cities. I do not have Astronomy yet. It's a little before 800 AD (gunpowder and corporations have already been discovered in the game :crazyeye:).

I haven't build a single cottage! (oh alright, if you look closely you'll find that I do have 1 cottage; but I just built it and I haven't used it :p).

I haven't fought a single battle. My greatest fear, obviously, is that one of the giant AI empires will march a 100 unit army into my capital. I'm waiting for Curassiers before I start spamming military.

Hopefully my new world cities will become productive soon, so that they can oversee expansion in the new world. Unfortunately, I just missed Versailles.

I kept getting Great Spies (instead of prophets or scientists) early, but haven't actually built any spies yet. I finally got my Prophet a few turns ago, so hopefully that will help my economy going forward, as I'll spam it in the new world.

My current gameplan is to take over the new continent and simply out-produce the old world. I might even set my original three cities free (as a colony), but not certain yet. I've only played 2 terran maps before and that was a long time ago, and I didn't colonize the new world in either of those games.

At this point, however, I'm quite pleased with how the game has gone. I thought I wouldn't be able to keep up on Deity, but I have actually been one of the tech leaders (and the wealthiest) the entire game (and with only 3 cities!). Quite fascinating.

In just the past 10 or 20 turns I popped both silver resources in my capital, hence they haven't had any effect on the game yet, but with my recent gold multipliers they should help me stay afloat for the future. The gold resource has been nice, however!

I switched religions from Judaism to Hinduism recently (since it is the AP religion, and I would prefer to spread two rather than three religions). Sury is mad at me now, however, hence that might prove to be my undoing. It's a good thing that it's almost time to spam military. The new world barbs are troublesome, however, hence that might cause an unwanted diversion of military to the new world. Unfortuantely, when I settled on the new continent the game didn't give me Hadrian's Wall to simulate the old world Great Wall.:lol:
