I sure did! And i was happy that it was ghandi declaring war against me, had it been the other way around i would have been trampled.

Here is my question. Does the AI ever get this event as well, to get a chance to force me into declaring war if my spy is caught? what triggers this event?

What event are you talking about? The only thing that happens to me when a spy is caught is I see a little notice that a spy has been caught no chance to declare war...

Unless I do so from the diplomacy screen

there is another event where you have the choice to declare some holy war because someone got married in another faith or something. never got the spy thing though if there is

I got the religious thing, but it never had any chance for war, only reputation hits. Never got the spy one either (then again, I rarely use spies, usually only when I'm already at war).

I think that it is this event:
Event162
Spy Discovered
Prereq: INDUSTRIALISM and contact with another player AND at least 4 cities AND Capital
Obsolete: ROBOTICS
Active/Weight: 60/100
Result:
1.gain 400 Espionage points AND mutual +2 Attitude modifier with other player
2.pay gold (300 base) AND gain 1 Great Spy unit
3.declare war on other player AND gain free unit support for 20 units AND +1 happy face for 30 turns AND 1 Tank unit for every 4 cities
Updated for 3.13 on Oct. 8, 2007
There is a grace period of 20 turns (NOT scaling with gamespeed) at the start without random events (defined in GlobalDefines.xml).
There is a chance of 1%/2%/4%/4%/6%/8%/10% per turn for any event to occur (era specific Ancient/Classical/Medieval/Renaissance/Industrial/Modern/Future).
Each event has a weight value – the chance for a specific event to occur is dependent on the combined weights of all currently allowed events.
Some events seem to scale with map size and speed – this is all for normal/standard

All Descriptions follow the following template:
Name of Event
Prereq – i.e. what is required before this event can be triggered
Obsolete – i.e. what (tech) is required to make sure the event can no longer be triggered
Active – i.e. the game decides at the start which events are included in current game, this is the chance that it is included
Weight
Result

Edit:
What event are you talking about? The only thing that happens to me when a spy is caught is I see a little notice that a spy has been caught no chance to declare war...

Unless I do so from the diplomacy screen
This is one of the random event of BTS, it can happen as long as the prereq are fulfilled and you can get it without having any spy in your territory.

I have had that event...it can be good if you have a military tech lead, but if your on par with everyone and you get the event...I belive I got six tanks while my enemy had mech infantry.....yeah I had no clue they were that advanced...

the part of this event where you can select war is nice/good advantage if you have a tech lead...if not go with the free EPs and no negatives with your nieghbor

I really think thats a bad deal.....I had 24 cities....seems a little high...I think its 1 unit for every two cities...that'd seem about right

hmmm...I play on marathon small/standard maps...is it different with mapo size?

It is not too great if one of your opponent's get it when you are going for a cultural victory.

True, but if you go for a cultural victory you should never reach Industrialism ;)

Very true IronCrown-unfortunately Pericles did reach Industrialism about 8 turns before my last city hit legendary. Fortunately I held him away from 3 high culture cities. That will teach me to keep sabotaging his oil wells :D

On the OP title, the second the little so and sos start becoming terrorists, then they die...

e.g.(This will be very familiar to many).. Your nearest neighbour begs you for Horseback Riding, you refuse, they go from grumpy to sulky (cautious to annoyed) and 5 turns later, your nearest city gets poisoned...now THAT should count as an act of war, nevermind the daft game situation (we caught your spy trying to commit mass unprovoked genocide, and are a bit peeved, but are still more annoyed that you are trading with nation x, who we met 5 minutes ago, and have decided is now our worst enemy )

Don't get me started on active Espionage, I hate it with a passion....
