Rhye's and Fall RAND is a project that tries to offer something halfway between RFC and standard Civ. All the great additions of RFC, such as stability, historical spawn dates, congresses, victory conditions and the UPs are in!

if I may: how could I miss that for so long. this is in fact what I have wished for since I first played RFC. looks like a great job rhye!

a question: is it possible to play it on other map types for replayability? like the great plains setting, borelian or pangea maps? I take it the earth likeness factor will make sure we get plenty of different maps, but if it were possible, then it means all the more game varieties.

second question: any idea of what size the download might be?

Rhye
Jul 24, 2008, 05:47 AM
1- no, all the maps generated have some hardcoded old/new world division which affect things like plague, conquerors, etc.

2- same as RFC

1- no, all the maps generated have some hardcoded old/new world division which affect things like plague, conquerors, etc.

I can see this now, on Low Earth Likeness.

Your terrified little Mayan Civ is the runt and whipping-boy of The Old World. You're behind in almost every way, your military is tiny, you have no natural resources, and your only advantage? You somehow managed to beat everyone to Optics. Your one caravel is out there, desperately seeking something to explore, someone to trade with, anyone, and then you sight land! And it's Spain! And they're loaded with resources! And OHMYGOD you just popped Conquerors! You flood them with plague, shatter their capital, seize their wonders, scoop up their resources and proceed to rock out all the way back across the ocean to show your snotty Khmerian overlords who's really boss.

Payback's a b***h :D

Rhye

Let me explain.
The Rhyes_Terra map type does check that continents are enough distant, and assign the label "new world" to one or two continents.
Plague, conquerors and everything apply to any civ that spawns in the new world. In low likeliness, there's usually some other civ other than mesoamericans. Instead, barbarians spawn in the old world.
Any other map type wouldn't mark continents that way.

It's possible you have an extra folder level (I did, and this created just the problem you describe).

I had:
/mods/RFCRAND100/Rhye's and Fall RAND/...

after unzipping the archive, so you might be "loading" the RFCRAND100 mod which doesn't actually do anything. Make sure the folder "Rhye's and Fall RAND" is directly inside the mods/ folder.

Sadly it doesn't matter whether they ask nice or not in Civ. All they care is whether you give them what they want or not.

As for RAND, I hadn't heard about it until recently. How could I have missed such big news? This is wonderful addition!

Al-Iskander

I was wondering, does this feature culturally linked starting places?

Depends on which "Earth Likeness" you choose. On "High," everyone starts in what you would probably recognize as "linked" starting places, but the lower you go the more random it gets.

I had the same problem as The Turk and sedna17 upthread - I followed the instruction in the readme -- "Extract the files contained in the zip in ...your Civ4 folder...\BTS\Mods\" -- and ended up with a 'RFCRAND110' mod which did not work. The Windows zip extractor was helpful, you see.

Can I talk you into changing the wording a little?

If the quoted line read "Extract the 'Rhye's and Fall RAND' folder files from the zip file into your Civ4 BTS mods folder - e.g., to '...\Beyond the Sword\Mods\Rhye's and Fall RAND\', then I would have understood and would have had to find something else to misread.

&Thanks to The Turk and sedna17 for posting.

When I loaded up the mod for the first time, "Play Now" was grayed out. Unloading and reloading didn't seem to help. Should I re-install the mod or try something else? Also, would this be considered a "bug"?

I did not use rand since some time, but I believe you have to go through the "custom game" menu.

dragodon64
Jun 18, 2009, 09:50 PM
Well, the pdf said to go with play now, but i also tried custom game, with some really screwed up results. i lost the moment the game started (no settler, just a popup saying something like TXT_DEFEAT_2) when I got to see the 0 turn history, the map was all grasslands, with some 1 tile lakes and random rivers.

JujuLautre

hopefully rhye can take note of this bug, it has now happened 6 times

If there is one thing for sure, it's that even if Rhye sees this he will not be able to fix anything unless he knows what to deal with.

You say "there is a bug" without actually giving any bit of information. At least post a save, otherwise it is useless. And it will give other people the possibility to check that this is indeed a bug by trying to reproduce it.

Oct 07, 2009, 05:39 AM
For this event to trigger you probably don't need a city. BTS random events just don't mix well with RFC and I don't include them in the game anymore. I have disabled them through XML (not custom game).
