I just recently switched from Windows to Mac OSX, and I would love to be able to run Civ IV natively on my Mac without having to switch over to windows using boot camp every time I want to play.
Is there any way I can get around having to buy another copy of Civ?

Not without running a windows emulator.
basically you have to buy the windows emulator or buy new disks.

So no way i could contact Firaxis and try to get crossovers?

Crossover costs money, and doesn't support Firaxis' copy protection DVD format, so it will only run the Steam version, which doesn't require a DVD, and also costs money.
By all means try asking Firaxis, but I can't see them subsidising you to the tune of one copy of Crossover plus one subscription to the Steam version in order to save you spending money with Aspyr.

You know what companies should do, if follow in the noble footsteps of Blizzard and make each disc Win and Mac compatible.
too bad they won't cuz it cut's profits.

Here here. Do you really think it cuts profits though? Blizzard seems to be doing just fine. :P

Well it does in the sense that they will never be able to sell overstock.
ie: some company sells gamestop or whoever 100 mac and 100 PC versions of a game, and they sell out the PC ones more quickly and order more, while said company has made money on those mac versions that are still on the shelf.
with dual-OS discs they ship 200 and sell the 200 right away. so the company (say Blizzard) is going to have to manufacture more discs sooner, it's not a huge margin, as the discs cost like 6 cents each, but if you take 6 cents, times about 5 % of the gaming community, times about 10 million discs... is 30,000 dollars, not huge, but still to the company's advantage.

Woot, I've been stating that in lots of posts around here over the year! I wish all companies were like Blizzard. As it is, the only non-civ games I play are Blizzard games. :D
