View Full Version : France, Germany, or Russia?
Huayna Capac357 Jul 23, 2008, 06:53 PM Sometimes, for my amusement, I try to make a list of the most important civs of such and such a region. I recently tried to do it with Europe. I came up with Greece, Rome, and England. However, I then could not figure out which two-nation combo I could do of France, Germany and Russia. Choose a combo on the poll please!
Godwynn Jul 23, 2008, 07:02 PM Considering Russia is really on the outskirts of Europe it would be difficult for them to have more of an impact than Germany and France, two nations set firmly in Central and Western Europe respectively.
Zarn Jul 23, 2008, 07:11 PM France is a must. They had a lot of Enlightenment thinkers, they always had a strong army, there is the French Revolution, and then there are tons of artists and writers. Their language is also significant in diplomatic history.
Germany is younger, although there were Germanic people for a long time.
Russia is on the outskirts, and its overall role was not as significant as France or England.
red_elk Jul 23, 2008, 07:24 PM Most important European countries? France, Germany, Britain, Spain.
On this poll - France and Germany then.

I'm surprised. I was leaning toward your country.
Dachs Jul 23, 2008, 07:32 PM Before about 1800 or so Russia was virtually a nonentity. (Yes, they did stuff, but it wasn't until the War of the Austrian Succession that they sent an army into Western Europe, and it wasn't until the Napoleonic Wars that they actually made a decisive impact on European affairs.) So yeah, France and 'Germany'.

European region usually means all Europe except Russian territory. If it was poll about entire world, I would include Russia probably in top 5.
Dreadnought Jul 24, 2008, 08:05 AM France and Germany, if united, would have been a serious powerhouse.
Too bad for Federick at Bouvines.

Too bad for Louis XIV. He had enough votes to become Holy Roman Emperor before the War of the Grand Alliance, IIRC. Then he decided to commit genocide just as it stopped being classy, and eject some of the best and brightest minds from his country. The Most Catholic King of France hated the Protestants more than the Pope did, but would willingly ally with the infidel... what a moron.

TheLastOne36 Jul 27, 2008, 03:16 AM As long as Poland is a vassal of either France or Germany and not of Russia, then i'm fine with it.

:hmm: ???? How does that work out (besides being democratic, richer, etc. oh wait I just answered my own question d'oh)
Zarn Jul 27, 2008, 04:05 PM You forget the biggest thing. They aren't Russia.
There is some Ukrainian in bloodline (a lot of things actually), and I must say I have no love for Muscovy. Muscovy had always been dubious, ever since it gained any power.
