Hi

I would love the ability to play on the giant earth map, but with the standard 34 civs (no israel, vikings instead of scandinavia, etc.) and no changes made to unit strengths, abilities, etc.

Is there such a version anywhere, or would it be possible to create?

A clean version would be interesting indeed. Genghis, any chance of this?:confused:

Is there any possibility that I or someone else can modify the map to work with vanilla-BtS?

It isn't quite what you had in mind, and you may have already known about it, but Genghis did make a stripped-down version of the map (it doesn't have the new world in it) a long time ago that worked without the mod - http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=3757

It's pretty out of date and only has 18 civs in it, but it seems to work with BTS and it might fit the bill.

I made basically the same request already. Unfortunately, he doesn't seem very open to the idea :sad: . I'd love to play the full earth GEM with just the map no mod, too.

Thats a shame. I do not understand his reasons, but I'll have to respect it :)

You are welcome to make any customization of GEM for your own good. But you need to spent your own time to do it. I simply can't make customizations on every request.

Could you please make a clean version (without civs or mods) of the map for people making their own scenarios? Or if you have can you show me where it is (I looked and couldn't find it, but I see people making scenarios)?

Second that.

There is no so called 'clean' version of GEM available. To play the maps, you need the 40 civ dll at the minimum. So that's what I am keep saying, if anyone wants to modify (include removing) anything of GEM, he/she has to spent his/her own time to learn what and how to do the things he/she wants to achieve. :)

I realize that; World 2008 mod could really use a "clean" (or whatever you'd call it) version, using the 40 civ DLL, as at least 35 (preferably more) civs need to be represented. There are ofcourse Carter's maps, but they're also linked - to Cartermod - and smaller. So, in short, a GEM map would be ideal. (I - and World 2008 mod team - also realize a 2008 scenario is in preparation for GEM.)

PS I wouldn't make the request if I could do it myself, but so far my skills are limited to map/WBS/xml editing mostly...

So do I ;)

There aren't much involved in GEM that is beyond your limit I suppose.

Er, OK, but I don't see myself making a Giant Earthmap. And since one is already out there, it'd be cool to have the basic map available for modders/other creators. (I'm not asking on my behalf, as I can't even get a GEM 1940 map to load, let alone a 2008/Giant map.) Or maybe that was just a polite way of saying NO...?

A clean map is rather easy ... I'm atm a bit short on time but if I reember to do so this weekend I might give it a try.

Its not like I havent tried, every map I've ever tried to clean ends up a 4000bc failure, I'd really like someone to do this.

Same here... Always crashes on me...

OK, here is the GEM Ancient Ressources map, clean, with 18 civ slots, none of them set yet. This map can be played as is with vanilla BTS, but even better, should be a good start for modifying this map for other mods.

This clean map is beautiful :) !!! I just need one thing though... how do I set the start locations? Are there any threads that tell you how?

Open the map file with a text editor. Look for lines like:

StartingX=68, StartingY=54

Change them accordingly to the respective civ. Its a simple coordination system, with 0,0 in the southwest corner of the map.

Thanks.

How do I get this compatible to run with a 34 civs mod of some sort? (keeps crashing when I try) Or how can I modify my game files to allow me to increase to 34 civs?

Also, are all the start locations randomized? or do they start in their historical locations?

I am having the same problem. I added this (excellent) map to my own mod and want to add about 30 Civs to their correct starting positions. How can I do this? Whenever I try it simply closes down the game and it tells me that 'Civ4 has stopped working'.

How can I make this map work for 30 civs in my own mod?

RobinHat and Sh4dowknight,

This requires (extremely minor) changes to the SDK. Open file CvDefines.h:

Change
#define MAX_CIV_PLAYERS (18)
to
#define MAX_CIV_PLAYERS (??)
where ?? is the number of players you want in your game. Recompile DLL.

In the alternative, there are some otherwise clean max civ dlls floating about. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=192620. This won't let you set it to WHATEVER you want, but it seems like there are a few good options.

There are no lines like that in the file. The word starting does not appear anywhere.

@silent

Although Bastian's map save didn't have them, they can be added like so:

--BEFORE--

BeginPlayer
Team=0
LeaderType=NONE
CivType=NONE
Color=NONE
ArtStyle=NONE
Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLEEndPlayer
BeginPlayer
Team=1
LeaderType=NONE
CivType=NONE
Color=NONE
ArtStyle=NONE
Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLEEndPlayer

--AFTER--

BeginPlayer
LeaderType=LEADER_HATSHEPSUT
CivType=CIVILIZATION_EGYPT
Team=0
PlayableCiv=1
StartingX=69, StartingY=37
Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLE EndPlayer
BeginPlayer
LeaderType=LEADER_ASOKA
CivType=CIVILIZATION_INDIA
Team=1
PlayableCiv=1
StartingX=90, StartingY=40
Handicap=HANDICAP_NOBLE EndPlayer

I'm working on one that matches the starting locations that Genghis Kai has in his BTS version 6.3. However, this will only be for the 34 standard civs of unmodded BTS and not Kai's 50. Since it seems he did a lot of handicap balancing work, would be best re-analyze the handicaps and perhaps adjust some based on any effects of the 18 removed civs.

I needed to make a blank GEM for another mod, so I thought I might as well post the BTS version here in case anyone wants it. This is the 6.3 version map with ancient resources, no preset civs.

http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=14590

Here you go

18, 32, and 40 civs in the correct location

Install the mod on the mod folder, load the mod and play in single player or multiplayer scenario N.W.O Earth 18, 32, or 40 civ map

It is a vanilla mod that just adds new leaders and new countrys without changing any of the game stats or units

Have fun
