View Full Version : Pre-NES Chat: UKNES4

Right, I've set this thread up to ask a few things about the UKNES4. The UKNES4 will not be made until the UKNES3 is finished(actually, it may be, I may decide to run them alongside each other!).

First question: Would you trust me to run a nation of my own?

This is due to the fact that however much I like moderating, it's still not the same as playing(and there are no other NESs to play!), and unclaimed nations get claimed too quickly for me to really be able to do anything.

I know that I would play honestly, and not edit combat results(actually, if combat when way in my nation's favour, like it did for Sweden in the last UKNES3 turn, I'd probably edit the results to less favour me just so I couldn't be accused of cheating! Damn I'm stupid lol). But do you trust me? Or more to the point(you may trust me but just not like the idea), do you think that a moderator shouldn't play because he knows what will happen?(although I would not read anyone's orders until the time of the update, so I could still change my orders right up to the last minute if there was a war without seeing anyone else's orders).

Anyway, the poll will answer this one.

Second question: How's this map?

Finally, any ideas for the UKNES4? And should it run alongside the UKNES3 once a few have been destroyed in that, to give them something to play(all UKNES3 people would be allowed to join the UKNES4, even if they are still playing number 3).

I prefer this map as it means that the Eastern Nations aren’t as powerful as they were. Also it means that if I took Spain again (not likely) than I could have 7 lands without taking on Cathage, also you could take 8 with 19 or 26.
Have you got any new rules for UKNES4?
By the way don’t start it until UKNES3 dies a natural death. (Unlike JNES, which was killed by UKNES3 and SUPERNES)

I will not start this NES alongside the UKNES3 unless people want to, and if I did, I would only run it once some people had been killed in the UKNES3.

If I did start this one before the UKNES3 had a winner(which I hope is how that one will finish), then I will run it alongside the UKNES3, not instead of it.

And people playing the UKNES3 would also be allowed to play this one.

Finally, I'm not planning any new rules for this one, I think the system is perfect now.

dont see a prob with you playing.

the map i have a few comments on:
1 the sea N is COMPLETELY useless. (get rid of it or connect it to L)
2 i think that for Carthage (or whatever it is now) that the capitol (24) should be connected to sea K (which would disconect 25 from I) so that he doesnt have to concetrate early on preventing italy from coming down right by his capitol (sending an army that way early makes moving the capitol not help any)

3 63,64,65 i think those should be rethought a bit (leave at 3 just different). 65 is closer to russia then to Sweden (2 to 3) and going by sea that early is expensive.

just my suggestions.

The map is OK. It sets out 7 very obvious provinces for each player. The problem is that a player if he sees an opportunity won't stick to his fair share. Like Russia will take part of Sweden, etc.

If I were playing this NES, I would say let the players play lol! Already your NESes are in great demand UK! :D

If I had to have a favorite player on this map it would have to be Turkey again. Turkey is stronger than ever, he can block invasions with 3 fleets and attacks with just 3 provinces! A 3 province border was something France or Austria could only DREAM of.

That would enable me to have less armies, less upkeep, faster building, and before you know it boom Europe is mine :D

Roddy, you're right, N is now useless.

However, I will be redesigning Turkey now to try and make it less strong(thanks Troq. lol).

Roddy, I don't know what you mean about 24, apart from the bit about sending an army the other way. You're right there, it can't go anywhere else.

I may move Carthage's capital back there again, just connect it to less seas...

Oh, and I'm taking a look at the Swedish border now.

And one last thing. Troquelet, I can't leave playing to the players lol, however much I enjoy moderating, I like playing more!

Anyway, if they don't want me to play, I won't. But currently the poll is looking good(and no, I haven't voted, it's nothing to do with me).

No! No! Don't change Turkey! just kidding..

Anyway, another useful suggestion I have is Albania should be a part of Greece. That way Greece borders L, M, AND Q, making it much more pivotal. In the normal game Greece is just my back-door-step and totally unreachable. If you make this change, an Austrian fleet can invade my rear for example.

That there is one good way to weaken Turkey.

Another thing I would suggest is making the K-L and H-I crossings dependent on Italy and Spain's consent, just like the P-M crossing is dependent on Turkey's consent. That would make Italy a much more vital player in the Mediterranean, and maybe give him a little extra income once in a while... :D

How could Rome affect people going from K to L?! There's a huge gap there!

But none of the sea movements require consent, not even P to M(that includes in the UKNES3).

personally i trust you but this will have to be a trial basis. So maybe if during the game the players think you have developed a bias we can call you on it and if we think you are doing something seriously wrong we can vote on you giving up your nation to some one else.

Is K-L allowed?

Oh, i see you made a couple of changes to the Russian-Prussian border as well.

uknemesis
Aug 01, 2002, 07:28 AM
K to L is allowed due to the fact that there is a gap between Italy and Sicily(it's just not shown for province reasons).

And no, Madrid isn't connected to I anymore.

Why not split up regions more to make room for more nations or perhaps add another continent from the start? Otherwise it will fill up too fast.
Can we reserve countries already? If so I want Sweden!

Revolutionairy

Don't start again untill the current UKNES is going under but I'll reserve Britain.

RoddyVR
Aug 01, 2002, 09:54 PM
i think that on this map, (like on its predecesors) denmark is meant for Sweden, but its MUCH closer to Prussia.

uknemesis
Aug 02, 2002, 05:30 AM
Yeah, but if they go for it they could possibly lose 58 to Sweden.

What! You can;t reserve yet, can we nem? If I knew that, I would have reserved Britain a long time ago! Well, if we can and I'm out of luck on Britain, I will take Sweden. :(

No reserving of nations, it'll be first come first served when the UKNES4 is released(which may be a long time yet if the UKNES3 lives the life I hope it will).

I will allow players who were in the UKNES3 one day before the official signing up to PM me which nation they want, so they get the first pick.

UK, can you warn me by PM when UKNES4 begin ? I think I will try to join, if there are some room left.

Good job for the map, especially for the fact that Spain don't need anymore to expand in North Africa to have his 7 provinces. It will prevent early tensions in mediterranea between Lybia, Spain and Italy.

Right guys, I've been thinking the UKNES4 over, and I can't decide yet on quite a few things, not least format(I was even considering the UKNES1 style, just with provinces).

Anyway, feedback from the UKNESs, and ideas are VERY welcome!

I think you should kind of base it on Toasty's return to roots, but instead have a moderater for battles. Also throw in some sponsering terrorism and rebels.

uknemesis
Aug 11, 2002, 08:41 PM
Yeah, that's the kind of thing I was considering, but still having to buy units.

I'll think that over.

My inner competitive nature (a small, frustrated fellow that i keep locked up in a cage, we call him Joey) wants you to know that i beat you to the punch by releasing UberNES already. Summon all the NES players you can find to play it!

best o' luck here i'll play this so we can trade orders.
