Back in 2006, the user Weasel Op discussed a scenario for the Descent: Freespace game, but I don't believe he finished it.

I would love to see this scenario completed. I just started playing Freespace and I love the game! :goodjob:

You're right, I didn't. Right now I'm not doing anything other than working on LotM, but I'd like to get back to it at some point. The biggest limitation is graphics, although quite a few spaceship units have been made since then. If you have some input or want to help, you can go ahead and resurrect the thread.

Yeah those spaceships are the problem. Is there some site with the models for them?

This thread should be the resurrected thread. :)

It should be possible to convert ship models directly from the game into Civ3 format. Since Volition released the FS2 code under a noncommercial license in 2002, there are lots of utilities for extracting, editing, and creating content, but the original artwork is technically not covered by the open-source release, only the game engine. However the various modding communities under the Source Code Project, such as www.hard-light.net, have created thousands of new models for FS2, many of them remakes or spinoffs of the original ships. I don't actually know how to convert models and/or animations into a format that could be rendered as a FLC animation- or least couldn't figure it out when I tried 2 years ago- but I remember converting something into a Truespace model. I'm sure there is someone around here who could get it to work if so inclined. (It's highly unlikely that either Volition or Interplay would do anything about reusing game art at this point, but it's technically against CFC rules to post copyrighted material without permission- plus the SCP material tends to be higher quality because it's newer)

The modelling process is difficult. We'd definitely need a pro to get the different spaceships into Civ 3.

By the way, I've only played the original Freespace so far, but I hope that I'll get to play its sequel soon.;)

Well, it's free and available online, so only bandwidth and time stand in your way :)

Do you know where I can download it without subscribing to some online program (like in some file sites)?

I tried the Freespace 2 Open Installer but my Windows 2000 kept stopping whle it was installing the files and it was so slow. (There was a message saying that starchy's FS2.vp [or somehting like that] was out of date but I don't think that had anything to do with it). I hope to try it on a faster XP tomorrow.

I'll let you know how the game goes (if I can get it to install).

I still couldn't get it to download fast. It took so long to dl the Open Installer version that I stopped.

Oh well, I still got Freespace 1. (:
