View Full Version : industrious Regents needed for game

Coming4u2
Jul 31, 2002, 09:33 AM
i wanna start a succesion game with around 5-6 people, there are only 2 things i would prefer for this game, skill setting to be either regent or monarch, (preferably Regent) and i would really prefer an industrious civ, apart from that, (and i am kinda flexible) the rules are up for a vote, players are on a first come first serve basis, and i would prefer it if u could play now, just stick ur name below

Lt. 'Killer' M.

Pillager,

Geez filling up quick, r u guys happy with regent then, and as the voting system goes u make 2 votes, 1 ur main and 1 ur second, if there is a tie in main votes then we use second on the ones that r tied, and if still tied, then my decision,
just a reminder, the options r

America (expansionist) (F-15)
France (commercial) (musketeer)
Persia (Scientific) (immortals)
Egypt (religious) (War chariot)
China (Militaristic) (Rider)

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Jul 31, 2002, 09:58 AM
well....

unmodded Civ3? Or may I suggest my mod???

deatils:

ship movements roughly doubled
- Ancient tech except Monarchy and Republic + ~1/3 cost.
- Max research time 50 turns.
- Hills can be irrigated
- Tundra gives no food, but 1 tax (so roads ar buildable)
- Desert gives no food, but 1 tax (roads buildable)
- no towns in deserts and Tundras!!!!!
- Resources give more bonus (now it`s worth fighting for them even if they aren`t strategic)
- AI-AI trade is 100% on Regent, 110% on Monarch and so on.
- Bombard changed accordingly.
- 2 new cultural levels, 1 at 5:2, one at 3:2 so rate can be judged better.
- more Uumpfff for battleships (bombard now 1,5 times that of cruisers)
- age bonus (1 to 4 HP) for advanced units,
- better attack for nuke subs and subs,
- changed HP to conscript=4, regular=6, veteran=8, elite=11
- changed bombardment accorgingly,
- added bombardment for all bow-equipped units and all fast units with guns plus tank and Modern armour,
- added free units / town for Republic since now often Monarchy is preferable over Republic because of large Military.

also r we going to have random every thing re map conditions (as for opponenets, i was going to have them all random)

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Jul 31, 2002, 10:00 AM
any civ is fine, I'd liek to go monarchy if noone minds...

(who's a SG noob here???? who already has experience?????)

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Jul 31, 2002, 10:02 AM
random is fine :D you know you can make the map size (!) random by clicking directly under the options? Then, none is marked and the game chooses one randomly......

Coming4u2
Jul 31, 2002, 10:02 AM
i don't mind that mod, but i don't mind normal, 50:50, as for difficulty i don't mind

Eklektikos
Jul 31, 2002, 10:08 AM
I'm pretty new to SGs, this is only the second one I've gotten involved in - but monarchy would be fine with me, even though I'd prefer regent. Don't mind about the mod, either.

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Jul 31, 2002, 10:12 AM
WEll then i would really advocate the mod, it makes things more balanced.... on the other hand we could then decide to be 'honest' - i.e. we have to keep deals.....

opinions?

this is also only my second SG, the other 1 i played was on monarch, (and we lost:()

as i said i don't mind the mod, perfectly equal,

The new commercial thingy is with the new patch - the optimum number of cities re. corruption is 1/4th higher for commercial civs instead of 1/8th higher.

Coming4u2: i will post my mod here - should i give the Ai additional start units? Should I play with the OCN? Lower = less settler diarrhoea and a little more corruption, higher = AI less likely to raze cities?

I also made Desert and Tundra no-city-terrains - ok???

Just tell me and then you can start a game with the mod asap ;)

Coming4u2
Jul 31, 2002, 11:12 AM
firstly we need 1 or 2 more players, secondly, No additional start units for AI, (they cheat enough),thirdly, go thru OCN again, and explain it fully, (including what it means)

Also i want the votes in, mine are

1. Chinese
2. French

plus. at the moment the other settings are Everything random, please state if u want otherwise

Finally, we need a vote on difficulty

regent

(u can tell i like democracy:))

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Jul 31, 2002, 01:09 PM
OK, we can really go Monarch if we set AI starting units to 0.

OCN is optimum number of cities. The further you go above it, the worse corruption gets in outlying cities AFAIK. Also, you need half that number to be able to build the Forbidden Palace.

If an AI reaches OCN, it will then stop building settlers and concentrate on buildup of existing cities and military. Then, it will eventually continue to expand when it gets Courthouses and later on when the more corrupt cities start to produce simply because they grow and because of better governments. All in all, a low OCN reduces then number of settlers the AI has wandering around, and makes the AI less aggressive in expansion (but makes militaristic civs more warlike, too). I have halfed OCN for me, thenh set corruption to 75% which makes it unbearable in despotism (keeping the empires small), OK in Monarchy and Republic and a minor nuisance in democracy - unless you want to take over the world. Then, it is a major speedbrake - which IMHO is a good thing.

hey, if there is still an open spot, id like to join please.

I'd like persia, no matter in difficulty. And i'd perfer no mod, but it wont bother me if we play with it.

Eklektikos
Jul 31, 2002, 01:44 PM
my votes:

1. Chinese
2. French

Regent if unmodded, monarch if we use Killer's mod

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Jul 31, 2002, 01:53 PM
a few thing we should agree on:

1) everyone posts a comprehensible account of his/her doings

2) saves are zipped and uploaded to the file server via Upload feature (mail me if you don't know how it works!)

3) maximum is 20 turns per player, less is you want to. It is recommended not to (if possible) start wars on turn 18 and on, but instead turn over the game to the next player unless there is general agreement on the war and it is well prepared.

4) 24 hours to post a got-it note, then 48 to post report and savegame. if you are away or otherwise unable to play, post so as soon as possible.

Everyone OK with these rules?

And if we still didn't choose the level, I vote for monarch.

I usually go to war unprepared :D Preparations take long time and when you are really ready then usually it is too late... Of course do not attack but two units! But sometimes AI just settles in your territory and you MUST start war. But I got your point and I also think you are fully right. :)

The Chinese have an unassaliable lead, so that is our civ
As for map decisions, we had agreed to have everything random, because that is more like real life, u don't know what the rest of the world is like
Also, if we need to vote on wether or not to Mod, if we don't then difficulty is regent, if we do then it is monarch(sorry Spotzi, u r not going to b happy,)
Finally, we need a Turn Order, I Don't want to go in the 1st 4, so i will take 5th position, positions are now up for grabs

I would play as the second then.
And my proposla is not to have a strict order of playing. If anybody is ready to take his/her turn, then he/she just posts. Another turn of the same person is possible after everybody has played his/her turns. An example:
1. pillager (2)
2. coming4u2 (2)
3. szpoti (1)
4. Tricky (2)

where numbers in brackets mean played turns. And you guys were able to play after I finish my turns

I think this is a typical way of playing SG. In that way we avoid dead moments when somebody, whoose turn it would be in a strict order, is busy or something.

Everybody agrees?

Pillager
Aug 04, 2002, 09:44 AM
OK, game started - Chinese, Regent, Barbs random, Map Size standard, type and age both random, 8 civs all random.

4000BC - Beijing founded on river - look slike a good spot. Wheat, cattle etc.
3950
3900
3850
3800 - Beijing - Warrior --> Warrior
3750 - 25 gold from hut, see wine
3700
3650 - Beijing - Warrior --> Warrior
3600 - 1 warrior West to explore, 1 to East, see another hut
3550 - Pop hut, gives 3 barbs, all of whom attack and die. Our warrior raised to elite!!
3500
3450 - Beijing - Warrior --> Barracks
3400 - Continued exploration - surrounding terrain is looking great, another river, plenty of mixture, etc.
3350 - Ditto
3300 - See blue border to East. Pop hust at West, gives 3 barbs; all die whilst attacking
3250 - Beijing - Barracks --> Settler. Pop hut to North, get map of region - shows another hut
Worker mines wheat. Germany makes contact and offers C. Burial in exchange for Masonry.
I manage to up it to B Working (had 8 turns left) and 10 gold.
3150 - Explore, switch to Iron Working
3100 - Explore
3050 - Pop hut, gain pottery

Well, a pretty promising start. Terrain is good, just itching to expand. Suggest planting first city at grapes, then expanding W to cut off Germans. Don't know what is to South yet. Might be worth bringing Eastwards warrior down to have a look.

Over to the next!

NB. Circles on map are my planned city sites, fairly vague at the mo. Depends a bit on what is to the South.

Lt. 'Killer' M.
Aug 11, 2002, 10:16 AM
well, time you learn! ;)

what to do:

first, write in your post:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/yourfilename.ext

yourfilename is the name of the file, ext is the extension, be sure to make it zip or jpg or SAV (upper case).

the forum will automatically turn this into a link if you have 'automatically parse URLs' clicked 'on'. If you are not sure about this, do not use the quick reply window, but click 'post reply'. Then, you get a window where all formatting options are shown, as well as the smileys and the options.

here, you find the 'parse URL' option.

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/upload1.jpg

now to upload the file:

in the bottom right corner of every page you will find this button:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/upload2.jpg

click it! A window will open:

http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/upload3.jpg

click browse, choose the file you want to attach. make sure that the name you gaev in the link above and the filename are identical, use filenames that are unusual 8because otherwise, if you use 1.zip or so, it is already taken and the file will be renamed). For sucession games, it is normal to choose s name with 1 or two letters from the starters ncik or the game name (e.g. DS for DarkSheer), the the number (1 for this our game), then '-year'.zip

e.g.: C4u1-500AD.zip (Coming4u2's 1st game in 500 AD).

Now click 'upload'

post the reply to the thread. Now check if the link works!!!!

tadaaa! You did it :D

Lt. 'Killer' M.

ah, OK, this is why I missed it: there was trouble unzipping it (i.e. the file was there but not visible in Civ3). So I played all teh SGs in that folder and when I had them all playd I thought I was done... Not so.....

I palyed quickly, not taking notes, here's a short summary:

I meet Germany, declare war, atack and get a Leader!!!!! He is rushed home to build Pyramids. Meanwhile, i extorted 5 Gold out of France and met Japan. Science is set to 100% to reach iron working ASAP. Why is there no unit in the capital - it needs military police to go size 3! Also, a Granary would have been a smart idea IMO... Now, we have two cities and can rapidly expand, faster than anyone else, especially since I catured Germanies worker :D make peace, if you can it is; I do and get Iron Working from Germany. Saves us three turns :D

Turn 0 (2310 BC)
We got The Wheel and 10 gp for Pottery and masonry from Japanese, research on Horseback Riding started.

Turn 1 (2270 BC)

Turn 2 (2230 BC)

Turn 3 (2190)

Turn 4 (2150)

Turn 5 (2110)
Shanghai built settler, another started. Germans founded Leipzig in a good spot near gold. Our warrior aproached a new civ in the east.

Turn 6 (2070)
Settler completed in Beijing, another one started. The other civ is ruled by Ghandi who exachanged alphabet for our pottery and 7 gp.

Turn 7 (2030)

Turn 8 (1990)
Borders of Beijing expanded, now we must connect the iron.

Turn 9 (1950)

Turn 10 (1910)
Canton founded, warrior started. Nanking founded, warrior started. French settler is probably about to found a new city nearby.

Turn 11 (1870)
The Frenach setlter went to the north where the horses are.

Turn 12 (1830)

Turn 13 (1790)
Horseback riding discovered, mysticism started in order to get monarchy.

Turn 14 (1750)
Shanghai builds settler, another started.

Turn 15 (1725)
Beijing builds settler, warrior started.

Hints: Beijing settler should found a city near Leipzing and gold in the spot connected to water (aquaduct not neccessary). Shanghai settler should IMO either build a channel city in the north with wheat or between Paris and Nanking close to wheat, at the river.
