Minor Annoyance

I'd like to know how the maps in Colonization are set up. Like how far inland does the map go? Can the map be entirely islands? When you send a ship back to the old world do you actually travel the whole ocean or is it abstracted? If it's not abstracted then how much of the old world exists in the game?
Is this even information that anyone could know at this time?

I don't have any idea what this remake will be, but I assume it'll be similiar to Colonization.
It covered the entire continent. You could have settlements in california, but it was very impractical.
Yes, it could be entirely islands, some of the random maps made lots of small islands instead of a couple big continents.
It's abstracted, you just sailed into an "open seas" area and then it asked if you wanted to travel to the new world and you hit yes. Then 3 or 4 turns later you showed up at a screen that represented Europe. It was very basic.
