I wanted to join the HoF fun and installed the mod today. However, when i started my first game i got noticed that the game didn't match HoF criteria and found following text on the victory conditions screen:
"The assets are different from a standard install. Contact the HoF staff"
I can't find anything wrong with the settings i chose (large map, marathon, 14 oponents, pangea, lock modified assets on, etc)... could it be that the thing simply isn't working because i have a german version of civ 4 instead of an english one?
Is there anything i can do to make it work?

Hi there ... I had exactly the same problem when I installed the Mod for Warlords. In my case, the Mod didn't like the fact that I had modified the .ini file to change some basic parameters (I set it so that the HoF Mod loaded automatically for example). There is a very long thread of questions and answers about the mod - if you click the link below it will take you to the thread (probably not to quite the right place, I am not quite sure how to do this link thing!) but just look for my post, #695 in the thread, where I describe the problem & you will see all the suggestions I had - I got lots of help from Denniz and others and the problem was fixed really quickly. I described my solution at post #700.

If you have modified the .ini file, the simple test is to try replacing it with the original file & see if you still get the problem. I'm not using the German version, so I don't know whether there is an issue there. But your problem sounds suspiciously similar to mine, so I hope this helps! If not, I'm sure the excellent Denniz will sort you out :)

I know for sure that Jesusin uses the Spanish version of Civ, and I'm quite sure I've seen a couple of Germans on here as well (eg. Ori).

apart from problems with non-latin operating systems (that occur for the unmodded game as well at times) there is no reason to suspect that its the language setting.
the assets warning has nothing to do with the settings you use. The mod detects that some game files have been altered or are not what the mod expects them to be. Did you change any game files?
Its definitely not a question of the german game version - though I have moved on to english - the translation just sucks ;)

It is probably due to assets being changed. (I assume that you have check "Locked Modified Assets" as that is another possibility.)
You can use the AssetsChecker (http://hof.civfanatics.net/civ4/mod.php?show=assetschecker) program to diagnose the problem. Note that it requires .NET Framework 2.0 or greater.

Thanks for the welcome and support. To my shame it turned out that i had simply forgotten to update to version 1.74 :-/
Now everything seems to work. The AssetChecker tells me that the CivGameCoreDLL.dll does not match, but when i play with the HoF mod i get no error message anymore.
Thanks a lot - time to try my first HoF gauntlet game :-)
