LightFang Aug 03, 2008, 01:02 AM Night 5 - A Change in Leaders
Planeswalker Renata vs. Horseman Neverwonagame3
For the first time, Tolis did not come out and greet the competitors as they gathered, Renata and Neverwonagame3 having stood in the center waiting to be summoned to the battlefield of the Planeswalker's choosing and the rest having dispatched themselves to the comfortable seats along the amphitheater. They indeed took their positions and waited for Tolis to come out. After a few uncomfortable minutes, the soft patter of footsteps could be heard.
Suddenly, a black being popped into the stage, or at least, that's what it looked like.
"I thought you were dead," remarked Renata rather nonchalantly.
"Yeah, I got called back. Apparently Tolis ran into some trouble with the Chinese or something."
"Chinese? Who are they? Are they from Chine? I've never heard of this country," a voice called in that tone of voice of a man who knew that he was speaking anonymously and therefore could be more aggressive than would be socially acceptable.
"Well, I could tell you, but it wouldn't be worth your time. Anyway, I'll be running this show from now on. Plus, you know, I'm a Void Walker. That means my portals are infinitely better than Tolis's stupid rip-offs."
He made a fairly obscene gesture, or a fairly polite one, depending on where you were from, and a portal in the wall appeared. It was orange.
"Seeing as Renata got the stage choice, Neverwonagame3, you should enter first." The horseman blinked slightly apprehensively and his horse blinked very apprehensively and he clopped in. Renata, looking rather ordinary, did a sort of skip and walked into the portal.
The scene immediately shifted. The Horseman was seen exiting a blue portal, and then the Planeswalker followed.
"Are you taunting me?" were the first words out of the Horseman's mouth. He found himself in a wide field of open plains, knee-high grass, and a beautiful sky above him.
"Maybe," the Planeswalker said, amused at how nonplussed the Horseman was. She was in a little ravine a few hundred yards away from the open fields. One could hear the faint sounds of a waterfall. It was really amazing how abrupt the climate shift was. Maybe this was why she was a Planeswalker. Her little head popped out of the ravine to look at the Horseman, and then she climbed out and walked forward, until she was a good 200 yards away from the Horseman.
"Draw your weapon!" asked the Horseman politely. He drew his lance, a beautiful one, with a flag that bore the arms of Hagnaught, which utterly failed to strike fear in anyone who was familiar with the military history of Hagnaught.
"I'm unarmed, darling," Renata said. "But don't worry, you'll find yourself struggling regardless."
A flash of worry crossed the Horseman's face like a rain cloud, until he remembered the plight of his faction. Then it was set in grim determination.
"An unarmed woman. What have I come to?" Still, he lowered his lance.
"Come," she said. "No hard feelings."
On cue, his horse charged. It wasn't just a normal charge. It was like an arrow leaving a bow, except it was more like a wall of steel that was quite a bit heavier and probably more damaging. It was so fast, in fact, that to the spectators, it looked like the Horseman was losing control, but he had done this many times before and knew the risks.
Renata grinded her feet into the ground more and threw a fireball rather like a girl. The fireball, however, must have thought otherwise, because it flew at startlingly manly speeds towards the Horseman. One could see his eyes open wide and his horse veer to the side. The runes on his armor glowed red and the fireball glanced off the side, part of it burning into the armor and the other part dissipating a few yards down.
Neverwonagame3 teetered very dramatically off the sides of his horse; he almost fell, but the horse, sensing its master's predicament, slowed down enough so that he could pull himself back up by the reins, and then headed back toward Renata.
"I send God's wrath on thee!" he yelled, a bit over-the-top, sure, but it was fine in the heat of battle.
This caused Renata's eyes to narrow into a slit. Muttering, she rose her hand and called a dark purple disc out of nowhere. It brimmed with crackles of energy and tendrils of magic zapped out of it at random intervals. She thrust it in front of her rather like a shield, except she used both hands to maintain it.
The lance struck the disc with a zap and Renata was tossed backwards, landing uncomfortably on her face, having flipped over completely. The horseman, meanwhile, had not anticipated his lance disintegrating from the shield.
He grabbed his sword as a replacement and prepared to charge down the Planeswalker. When spectators remembered this scene later, they remembered how mighty the Horseman looked in comparison to the rather average looking woman planted facedown.
As he charged forward, yelling a famous warcry that went something like: Aiyiyyiyiaiiiiyiay!, Renata breathed a few words. As he got nearer, her hand suddenly planted the ground. Magic seethed along the floor. Shocked to find that the ground in front of him had inexplicably turned into ice, his horse slipped and slided along. He bailed at the last moment as his horse went careening down into the ravine. He didn't manage to pull off a glorified landing, but it wouldn't really matter. As he was laying on the grassy field, Renata simply called forth a magical gust and he went tumbling down. He died on impact.
The land suddenly twisted and made dazzling images and Renata and the dead bodies of the Horseman and his horse were back in the real world.
LightFang Aug 03, 2008, 02:06 AM Neverwonagame3 was innocent.

OOC
-Sorry if I butchered your characters. I BSed it. :p
-Feel free to complain about the quality of the write-ups. What do I need to fix?
-As I said, I'm going to be in Silicon Valley. I don't know if I'll have Internet access; if someone could tally up the gold or something, that would be great.
-Have fun!
Izipo Aug 03, 2008, 07:19 AM Good job LightFang.
Glad to have this on track and rolling again.
thomas.berubeg Aug 03, 2008, 08:54 AM thank you, lightfang
Renata Aug 03, 2008, 02:55 PM (OOC: :D )
The Planeswalker has dirt on her face and grass in her hair. Add the new rips and scuffs in her coat, and she might have just arrived at the arena after a long day picking potatoes and a night spent sleeping in a barn. She regards the mangled corpse of the Horseman with an oddly compassionate expression.
I didn't choose to fight you, Horseman, but I can't say I'm unhappy that we were chosen. You tried to take the coward's way out of this tournament, but in the end you died honestly, and what more can any of us ask for? It was an honor to do battle with you. Except for the part where you presumed to bring the gods' judgment down upon me. That was ... unfortunate. But still, be at peace.
She inclines her body slightly toward her fallen enemy, in a gesture that's a little more than a nod, a little less than a bow. As she straightens, she glances as the board where the next match is posted, and a look of slight surprise crosses her face.
Well, well. Is the Agents' second-favorite weapon to be deployed again, against another of my teammates this time? Or has the blade twisted in their grip, and needs breaking? I suppose time will tell.
I would like to make a bet on this match, if only I knew what my share of the Horseman's purse was to be.
Niklas Aug 03, 2008, 03:11 PM { OOC: LF, that was a mighty good writeup! Don't put yourself down, there's absolutely nothing to complain about. Oh, well, one thing, that the first post hasn't been updated with the latest info (not talking about gold but the rest). Otherwise, great start of your GMing, and thanks for picking this up! :thumbsup: }
Tasslehoff Aug 03, 2008, 03:20 PM Hi. I'm trapped in Europe without internet access until the lazy phone company fixes it. Just a warning.
choxorn Aug 03, 2008, 05:52 PM Great write-up! And piece of advice, do it earlier in the day next time. ;)
Stuck in Pi Aug 03, 2008, 06:31 PM ah, it's back
Methos Aug 03, 2008, 09:01 PM {Great, its up and running again!}
LightFang Aug 04, 2008, 12:33 AM I'm on vacation and everything and my notes are all back home, but I'll chip away at this maybe, if I'm bored. I doubt I will be, so think of this little update as sort of a promise of things to come. You will all have an additional 48 hours or so after I get the gold totals updated.
Leeksoup Aug 04, 2008, 12:39 AM ((Thanks, LF! I think we all appreciate you coming through and keeping this game from dying twice.))
Rogueknight Aug 04, 2008, 11:24 AM I vote for Izipo, The Blood Brother to fight choxorn, the Barbarian!
I'd like to see the Barbarian in action and I have a hunch about The Blood Brother. Maybe I'm right, or maybe it isn't up to me and Lady Luck rolls the dice for us all......
choxorn Aug 04, 2008, 06:45 PM Any more reason than that? :p
And I bet 100 gold on the Mentor cause, knowing the agents, he'll win.
Frozen In Ice Aug 04, 2008, 06:55 PM Did something happen to Tolis again?
mythmonster2 Aug 04, 2008, 10:46 PM Hey its back! Do you have the PMs or do we need to send em?
LightFang Aug 06, 2008, 12:39 AM I have all of the information at home. I'm on vacation. So, this game will be on hold. Those of you asking for scan stuff, you'll get it when I'm back at home and updated everything. It'll probably be a few more days from my return, so thanks for your patience!
choxorn Aug 06, 2008, 12:50 AM Hey guys? You realize that you CAN vote and bet now, right?
Rheinmetall Aug 06, 2008, 06:58 AM I would like to see the following kind of fight. Blood Brother vs. AEthermancer.
choxorn Aug 14, 2008, 09:47 PM Update? :)
And people, seriously, vote and bet. :p
BananaLee Aug 15, 2008, 03:25 AM I would like to see the following kind of fight. Blood Brother vs. AEthermancer.
Whatever for?
You certainly like to choose innocent people to fight all the time. What sordid Agentish plans have you got in that head of yours?
If you're so desperate to see fights, why don't you, Mr. Overlord experience it first-hand against the Blood Brother?
Methos Aug 15, 2008, 03:02 PM If you're so desperate to see fights, why don't you, Mr. Overlord experience it first-hand against the Blood Brother?
That sounds like an interesting pair, so Blood Brother to fight Mr. Overlord.
choxorn Aug 15, 2008, 07:12 PM Agreed, Blood Brother vs. Overlord would be an interesting match.
merciary Aug 15, 2008, 08:40 PM Sure lets go with Blood Brother vs. Overlord
Tasslehoff Aug 16, 2008, 04:31 AM I shall bet 200 gold on the Mentor.
As for the fight, I challenge the Blood Brother. I shall see an end to his despicable acts of... whatever it is he does with that blood.
Renata Aug 16, 2008, 08:23 AM OOC: Is this still on? LightFang hasn't posted anything in weeks.
LightFang Aug 16, 2008, 10:31 AM Vacation's all I ever wanted...
It'll be up on Sunday, I promise.
Renata Aug 16, 2008, 12:13 PM OK, cool. Good to know.
Ekolite Aug 17, 2008, 08:51 PM ''What issss thissss disspicable creature that daress to fight the almighty illihid!''
mythmonster2 Aug 17, 2008, 09:44 PM *the vampyre watches from the shadows* Ha, what a fool. Cannot even remember his own name correctly! (You forgot the t there, buddy. ;))
LightFang Aug 17, 2008, 10:12 PM Il Mode says: All right, I've finally tabulated everybody's gold counts. I'm going to add the 40 gold everybody gets due to the start of a new day; I'll edit it when it's done.
Then I'll get to work on those PMs.
Due to my extreme tardiness, I hereby grant you all an additional 72 hours to do what you want.
Edit: All gold counts are finally updated! Man, this is the hardest part of GMing.
Edit2: Everything is finally done. May the game continue!
It is Day 6. Day ends in 72 hours.
Rheinmetall Aug 18, 2008, 07:22 AM The overlord looks amused.
"I beg you pardon, but where does it say you are innocent AEthermancer. You've certainly got a sharp tongue. Why don't you fight me by yourself?"
"I'll switch my vote to AEthermancer to fight me, The Overlord."
Renata Aug 20, 2008, 04:02 PM Izipo seven votes, Rheinmetall five, and no one else more than two? I don't suppose there's any point in me voting then, is there, given the day is almost over? Granted, I've been wrong about such things before.
As for betting, doesn't someone have to bet on Kol.7 for anyone to win anything? I'm not sure I want it to be me, though. No offense meant, dear tentacly one, but those making repeat appearances on the battle field so far are tending to win. (Nahkarma being the exception, but then he's not really dead either, is he?) And that means Chandrasekhar, not you. So I suppose I'll hold on to my money today.
Rogueknight Aug 21, 2008, 11:41 AM 200 Gp on Kol.7
The mentor has to trip up at some point, no-one lives forever!
LightFang Aug 21, 2008, 12:30 PM Day 6 was over on August 20, 2008, at 8:12 PM PST.
Writeup is coming.
choxorn Aug 21, 2008, 06:10 PM Does that mean Rogueknight's bet counts or not?
Renata Aug 21, 2008, 06:41 PM I would suppose not.
Rheinmetall Aug 22, 2008, 07:42 AM OOC:Away for the weekend. Not that important if I lose my fight.
LightFang Aug 23, 2008, 12:38 AM Day 6 - Mental Mentoring
Mentor Chandrasekhar vs. Illithid Kol.7
"It's my second time doing this, my, how exciting!" The Void Walker had refracted himself to a shade of merry black for this occasion.
He called down a microphone from the ceiling. When he was disappointed to find that the technology level in this particular world had not advanced to that particular level, he blithely pushed on, opening a little void in the space right in front of him that opened up to a big void that came back to this particular world many times amplified, pulling off the same trick, but much more pleasing to the ears.
"In this corner, we have the Mentor, Chandrasekhar!" He gestured wildly to Chandrasekhar, who looked rather amused. His pale hair billowed in the wind that had rather kindly decided to come in. Today he had ditched the staff that he had had in his last fight. He looked ages younger.
"In this other corner, we have the Illithid, Kol.7!" This time, it was more of a cool nod of the head. The Illithid looked like Death, if he had decided to wear a dark robe, hiding a dark face, thinking visible dark thoughts that were darker than a black cat in the bottom of a well dug a mile underneath the surface that was filled in with stone and covered with a black blanket at night. The Illithid gave a little cheery wave to the public, completely out of character. "Feed Illithid, you will, yessssssss."
"Do you normally refer to yourself in the third person, or are you trying to be particularly daft?" The Mentor.
"Brains!" the gemutlich Illithid said, feeling as if it had made a rather deft syllogism.
The Void Walker snapped his fingers and a blue portal appeared.
"Enter, first the Illithid, and then the Mentor," he said, solemnly.
The Illithid lumbered over and disappeared with a pop. The Mentor flashed a smile and leapt through.
Everybody was greeted with a familiar sight. It was a valley in the shape of a bowl, completely surrounded by steep cliffs, as if God had said, "Let a teacher instruct his pupils here."
Some dust blew in the wind for dramatic effect. The sun shone in the afternoon. The heat was oppressive. A hint of rainclouds in the east looked as if it would start a revolution and beat down the heat, but first it had to gather strength.
The one thing that marred this sort of picturesque setting was the blood and marks along the arena, evidence of the previous fight.
"You do this to shock Illithid, yes! You indim...intimn...inmini...--"
"Intimidate," the Mentor added helpfully.
"That to me! Yessss. But I see through tricks!"
"We'll see about that," said the Mentor. Out of nowhere, he pulled a big longbow out.
"Where you keep that?!" the Illithid asked, but a reply was not forthcoming.
Zing! Bolts flew through the air at inhuman speeds. The Mentor's arms were just whirls of color. The Illithid jumped off to the side, but far too slowly, and he was impaled by a great deal of bolts. Without missing a beat, the Mentor leapt off the ground and followed him, looking as if he were hovering along the ground.
"I wasn't using my full power before," he added helpfully. And everybody noticed. While he was offering this bit of advice for the Illithid to chew on, his fingers did a dance. A red ball grew between his two hands, one on top of another.
"Schwalbe Fliegen--Swallow Flier!" he yelled, also rather helpfully. The Mentor was being rather nice to his opponent. He was even naming his moves. The bolt of red fire left his arm and split into four. Each of the four smaller balls assumed the shapes of birds, except almost infinitely more likely to burn you to death when they hit.
The birds swirled around in a spiral sort of shape, then out around, coming toward the zooming Illithid from four sides.
"Some people think they can outsmart Illithid!" he yelled. "Well, they are wrong!"
A cone-shaped shockwave emitted directly at the Mentor, who tried to dodge it. However, his foot was caught in the blast, and unluckily for him, his body did not act as an insulator. The shock spread to his brain and the Mentor froze in the air and hit the ground. Meanwhile, the Illithid caught and strangled three of the birds, while the last one hit him in the small of the back and immediately burst into flames.
He calmly patted it out, and then stormed toward the Mentor like a tank. His bulging muscles were visible even under the cloak.
"Left self open!" he said gleefully, and prepared to crush the Mentor with his foot. As he did so, the Mentor snapped out of his daze and blocked him with his hands. He threw the Illithid up, spinning him in the air while he did so. He then leaped, shifting his weight back, then forward so that he was in a standing position without having put his arms on the ground, then leaped and did a spinkick (http://de.youtube.com/watch?v=14brTqTV6rg&feature=related) in the air that sent the Illithid flying back.
The Mentor leaped up in the air and called down bolts of lightning from the heavens. As it skewered the Illithid, the Mentor did a bicycle kick up, launching him in the air. He then leapt up, grabbed the Illithid, spun around in the air around the x-axis, and threw him down. The Illithid hit the floor a second before the Mentor came down upon him like a sack of bricks, except rather more organized.
The life left the Illithid's eyes, and suddenly they were back and LightFang was congratulating the winner and for some reason the Mentor had a craving for ice cream.
LightFang Aug 23, 2008, 12:40 AM Kol.7 was innocent!

IC:
The agents are playing an interesting game here, always knowing who they want dead, always knowing who can kill them, and always giving the killer the stage choice.
Barbarian is getting fearful of this game. How do they always know who will kill who, and how do they know who is a good person to kill?
Almost 10 people have died in this tournament, and not one of them has been an agent.
And speaking of death, anyone seen the True Believer?
Tasslehoff Aug 23, 2008, 04:07 PM 0 gold win? Can't you count rogueknight's bet? Pretty please? :please:
Izipo Aug 23, 2008, 07:31 PM Say what ? I am to fight the Overlord ?
Oh well, whatever. A shame we haven't seen him in a while. But now that I mention it, we haven't seen a lot of people in a while...
{OOC : I can't remember what was decided about gold totals. Any chance to know what I have to spend ?}
choxorn Aug 23, 2008, 08:00 PM Barbarian no win money for winning bet? Barbarian say that that is Bull$#!t!
BARBARIAN SMASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Chandrasekhar Aug 23, 2008, 08:58 PM Upon appearing again among his fellow fighters, the Mentor directs a look at the Risk Breaker, something approaching amusement on his face. "I'm sincerely sorry to disappoint you, Rogueknight, but it looks as though I'm going to be living for awhile longer, yet. I could never lose to such a foe. Perhaps it's for the best that it was such an easy fight. I have several more attacks in my arsenal, but I haven't gotten around to naming them yet.
"I am irritated at being put into a second pointless battle, though. I don't like being used without my own consent."
mythmonster2 Aug 23, 2008, 10:01 PM What is this whole tournament but a series of fights where we are used without our own consent, eh? *the vampyre stretches in the full moon* Ah, I sense an eclipse to come soon. Tomorrow, maybe. I felt 500 years younger the last time there was an eclipse!
LightFang Aug 24, 2008, 02:47 AM I guess I can allow the bet, just so you guys can win some money.
Bet total up tomorrow; it's too late for me.
Renata Aug 25, 2008, 03:36 PM I suspect that Izipo has rather more in the way of connections than Rheinmetall does. For that reason alone, I will put 200 gold on the Blood Brother to win.
Tasslehoff Aug 25, 2008, 07:31 PM The warlock is a bit put out by his total lack of winnings last round
Just to ensure that nobody wins a 0 gold this round, I'll match Renata's bet with 200 gold on Rheinmetall
LightFang Aug 25, 2008, 07:57 PM No, no, you'll be making money, I'm going to count the bet.
Day will continue for 48 hours after this post. Why? Because
1. school has started again, which leads to more procrastination, but
2. I have a ridiculous band thing every Tuesday for a bit, so any updates that normally fall on Tuesday get pushed back a day.
Gold totals will be up; I will edit this post when details arrive.
choxorn Sep 01, 2008, 10:09 PM Uh, been a week, where is everybody?
LightFang Sep 02, 2008, 02:23 AM Let dead games die. If nobody wants to play, then so be it! S&F3 will be better.
Izipo Sep 02, 2008, 03:51 AM So... Did I die or what ?
choxorn Sep 02, 2008, 08:21 AM This is dead? :(
Rheinmetall Sep 02, 2008, 08:28 AM Dang. I was waiting for something to happen. :[
Tasslehoff Sep 02, 2008, 10:16 AM I want to play.... :(
Renata Sep 02, 2008, 02:41 PM I can't handle a week or more between updates. No offense to either GM, who I'm sure are doing their best, but I can't play that way any more. Sorry. :(
Rheinmetall Sep 03, 2008, 09:06 AM Well. It was fun while it lasted.
Izipo Sep 03, 2008, 10:59 AM So, is this the part where we reveal all our hidden abilities ?
:D
Tolis Sep 03, 2008, 12:07 PM i figured as much, since im sitting at an airport bored on my laptop, ill do the stats for everyone, as well as the mechanics that were never gotten to (sadness)
Since i am running off my laptop, i think i might have a few things not updated between charater PMs, so if it is different, feel free to correct it.
Battles System was done on a 3/1/1 system, where an attack vs a weakness = +3, an attack vs a defence was -1, and a netural attack is +1.
Win Conditions:
Innocents: Kill off Pinman (assassin), Kill off All Agents, Kill off All Counter Agents
CA/Agents: Kill off all of the opposing faction, as well as Pinman, and control a voting majoirty
Assassin: Kill off all the agents, and then have less players alive then the total number of your attack types divided by 3.
There were no tories in this game, though i did find it funny that everyone assumed that there were who played the last one.
Every 7 days, there were plans to have a global 10% price increase (with the exception of a charater who wasnt played)
Starting on the 8th day, Amulets of Protection were planned to go on sale, costing 1500+100 for each purchased GLOBALLY (aka 5 are bought by anyone, the next one costs 2000) These amulets, would passivly defend against a single TARGETED ability, or a scan of any time, automatically, and are single use.

You cannot target one already slated to fight in the public vote, but u may target one in the Agent battles. This weakening lasts a single cycle, and may disable the ability of the target, if it requires a verbal element.p
A few notes about your power:
They do not lose their vote, all they can do is post a vote. They are not limited in responding to PMs, and that would be impossible to police anyways. Also, you will remain hidden while you use this power, unless the target possesses the "intuition" attack type. there will then be a 50% chance that you will be revealed to that person. Also, there is a chance on repeat uses on the same person that you will be caught.
You have been touched with Divine power, and you have strong mental abilities as well. You are skilled in close quarters combat, and you can cross your foes up with your attacks.
You are resistant to transmutative effects, and supernaturally fast foes cannot rely on their speed when facing you. You strike evasive foes without error, and you are not fooled by mundane trickery.

Izipo Sep 03, 2008, 12:27 PM Thank you Tolis.
Lot of work you put in there.
So, Pinman was the assassin, but who were the Agents / Counter Agents ?
Tolis Sep 03, 2008, 12:33 PM i honestly dont remember and i have long since cleared those PMs.
The ones i know off hand
Catharsis, The Overlord, The Shaman and Backward Logic were agents
Chandrasehkar, Methos and sirtommygunn were the CAs
I may be missong someone tho.
mythmonster2 Sep 03, 2008, 04:38 PM Shame this had to end. Well, it seems I would have died had I fought the were-beast, that stinks.
Izipo Sep 03, 2008, 04:49 PM So Rhein, what do you think of our fight-that-never-was ?
I had bought +Unarmed to match you :D Did you buy anything ?
choxorn Sep 03, 2008, 06:00 PM So, Kitto, your informant who knew other people's alignments was actually you? ;)
This sounded like a well thought-out game that would have had some interesting results. The Warlock has the exact same stats as in Dissensions 1.
But on to other things, it looks like 3 different special abilities (if you count KittoKittoAsa's) were used on the first fight. The Illithid seems to have used his exactly once, to change Catharsis's vote at some point. Vampyre vs. Were-Beast would have been interesting with their special abilites- The Vampyre would ressurect if he lost, and get his stats changed to the Were-Beast if he won.
Hey, how would we have gotten upgraded abilities?
Tasslehoff Sep 03, 2008, 06:13 PM I was also an Agent. My ability was awesome, and probably overpowered. Since, as an Agent, I got to choose the fight, I would know all four of the combatants for the next day, which accumulated to massive 'passive bonuses' by cabal ritual, and I also had won an attack and defense type.
Catharsis Sep 03, 2008, 06:28 PM The Warlock has the exact same stats as in Dissensions 1.
We noticed that. Nahkarma's ability was quite similar to Martyr Brisingamen's, as well. Attempts to capitalise on this didn't lead to much, however (AFAIK).
It's worth adding that, like in the original Dissensions, there were a few people we couldn't let die - BananaLee and Charles Li were two, but more importantly, we weren't allowed to see PINMAN die (assassin!) or KITTO (the prophet!). You evil so-and-so, Tolis. ;)
Anyway, good game. Sorry for losing interest towards the end. (And also to my various allies, both Agent and innocent, for my being utterly inept. What's been proved, here and in the last Dissensions, is that I suck at being mafia. :D)
Renata Sep 04, 2008, 07:45 AM And here I was just coming around to suspecting you, Catharsis, after protesting your innocence for most of the game. :p I can't for the life of me remember what made me change my mind, though.
Did the counter-agents, agents and assassin know what their victory conditions were? (Figures I had one of each among the people I was talking to.) The innocents were blind to that; I'm not sure how that would have worked out.
I stink as an innocent. Can I be a mafia again next time? :p
Chandrasekhar Sep 04, 2008, 08:14 AM Did the counter-agents, agents and assassin know what their victory conditions were?
No, as far as we counter agents were told, our objective was just to kill the agents.
Renata Sep 04, 2008, 08:40 AM That could have been very strange. Methos kept pushing to have a Candle of Truth used on him -- he says he would have made a statement along the lines that your goal was for the innocents to win. I would definitely have tried to accomplish that had the game not stalled and left me in limbo: you three were half of the coalition kittokittoasa's scans were building, after all, and that could have settled the trust issue once and for all. But how would it have come out? As true or as false?
I'd also like to know the rationale behind the "agent battle" choices.
Rheinmetall Sep 04, 2008, 08:45 AM So Rhein, what do you think of our fight-that-never-was ?
I had bought +Unarmed to match you :D Did you buy anything ?
I bought +Elemental, before I even knew your weaknesses. After Catharsis told me of your weaknesses, I figured I might have a chance to beat you.
I was intentionally keeping low profile, but sadly it's a two edged sword. I remain unnoticed by most, but some might start to think that I'm not playing or have lost interest, which was not the case.
Catharsis Sep 04, 2008, 09:04 AM Ah, the Candle of Truth. I was considering proposing some sort of mass CoT-bluff for the second week (basically, PM a load of players who might not be in regular contact with others and ask them to PM back 'I am not an Agent' or something like that). That blatantly wouldn't have worked, or fooled anyone, but I was chaotic-evil, so that didn't matter.
As for the Agent battles: a lot of them were set up to accommodate Tasslehoff's rather awesome ability. (Although it seems as though tailless's ability was even more awesome. I didn't know about it!) The secondary reasoning was to get rid of threatening players (that might be in the 'giant secret PM-cabal' I kept raving about) as well as killfire (contrary to what appeared to be the opinion at the time, we didn't know about the Necro-Master's ability beforehand - it was a guess).
Ekolite Sep 04, 2008, 04:28 PM (that might be in the 'giant secret PM-cabal' I kept raving about)
Heh, is that why I was chosen? It turned out that most of my contacts were agents/assassins/whatever anyway lol.
Renata Sep 04, 2008, 04:38 PM So you Agents didn't know that Methos and Chandrasekhar (and sirtommygunn, for that matter) were counter-agents?
choxorn Sep 04, 2008, 04:46 PM @Tasslehoff's special ability: Yeah- all of the agent's abilities were a lot better due to them being agents.
@Rhein: Getting noticed doesn't seem to bring harm either, I was the most vocal player and I wasn't on anybody's hitlist.
Catharsis Sep 04, 2008, 04:49 PM Heh, is that why I was chosen? It turned out that most of my contacts were agents/assassins/whatever anyway lol.
You'll have to ask Backwards Logic about that - he was the only one that remembered to send in a fight suggestion at that point.
So you Agents didn't know that Methos and Chandrasekhar (and sirtommygunn, for that matter) were counter-agents?
Nope. Methos, I think, kept going in because four of the Lucky B******s were off-limits (either Agent or Untouchable), so if we wanted to send one of them in it had to be Methos or Niklas, and Niklas had to be kept around because he could beat Nahkarma (the only proven innocent in the game... or so we thought). Also, I'm scared of Methos because he can see you even if you are in invisi-mode. :scared:
Chand is just a general threat and should be removed as quickly as possible. I genuinely thought that sirtommy was the one that changed my vote, hence the many, many votes for him.
EDIT: choxorn: you were on my hitlist, buddy. I wanted you wiped out, but Tasslehoff made a good point, namely, 'my ability is awesome!' so for the next fight (the one that would have been revealed after Izipo vs. Rheinmetall) we went for Renata vs. thomas.berubeg instead.
Renata Sep 04, 2008, 04:56 PM @choxorn: That's what you think. :p
Edit: me? Eep! I'd have been in trouble, too. :D
Stuck in Pi Sep 04, 2008, 05:34 PM yeah, uh, where is the Illusion in the stat list?
and sorry about not being active, then again, my team never really showed up much either...
Izipo Sep 04, 2008, 05:51 PM I bought +Elemental, before I even knew your weaknesses. After Catharsis told me of your weaknesses, I figured I might have a chance to beat you.
I was intentionally keeping low profile, but sadly it's a two edged sword. I remain unnoticed by most, but some might start to think that I'm not playing or have lost interest, which was not the case.
Oh well, you would have won then, if I counted right.
And about the low profile thing, towards the end (even before we switched GM) I started to lose interest, which led some people to believe I was an agent or something. So, yes, definitely a two-edged sword.
Anyway, it was fun while it lasted. I lost interest because being an innocent in a team of agents wasn't really fun.
I was convinced that Chand and Methos were up to no good. Chand because, you know, it's Chand ;) And some of his answers to my PMs were a bit off.
Methos because he kept rambling that Dissensions was awesome and that he was very busy with it. That goes also for Pinman who made comments in other threads about how great was this game. For me, to be that interested, you had to have a special character.
Sadly I couldn't share my hunches with anyone.
Still, congrats to Tolis for a well thought-out game. Too bad it stalled, but maybe we'll have a SnF in the future that we'll be able to finish, who knows ?
Methos Sep 04, 2008, 06:59 PM Did the counter-agents, agents and assassin know what their victory conditions were?
As Chand already stated, no, which leads to your next question.
Methos kept pushing to have a Candle of Truth used on him -- he says he would have made a statement along the lines that your goal was for the innocents to win.
This could have been very interesting, as I was under the impression that we wanted an innocent victory. Had I made that statement with a CoT and it came back as a lie, it could have screwed up our connections and really thrown me for a loop!
The secondary reasoning was to get rid of threatening players
Just curious, but how was I considered a threatening player? My character or what?
Methos Sep 04, 2008, 07:04 PM Nope.
Was I on an agent hit list? Or did the agents even have a hit list this game?
Also, I'm scared of Methos because he can see you even if you are in invisi-mode. :scared:
Don't worry. I don't abuse that ability. Yes I can see you are online, among a few other things, but because of that I do not look. In reality, you all have a bit of an advantage over me as you can look at players activity to see what they are or are not doing, since I won't do it to remain fair.
Methos Sep 04, 2008, 07:05 PM This was the PM the counter-agents received:
Something Found in your bag.
A runed coin is found in your bag of gold.
You are the counter-agents. Your mission is to eliminate the agents, but at the same time, you appear to be agents. Every 7th day you will be choosing the arena combat. For this combat, teammates may not fight each other. You also have a list of people you should try to eliminate. Should you suceed, you will we rewarded.

choxorn Sep 04, 2008, 08:23 PM Ronin and D'art were on your hitlist? Well, that must have been easy, Ronin got both of them killed.
Methos Sep 04, 2008, 08:52 PM Ronin got both of them killed.
:mischief:
Chandrasekhar Sep 04, 2008, 09:56 PM Chand because, you know, it's Chand ;)
I seem to be exceptionally likely to draw characters that are good guys - guys so good, in fact, that they're dangerous to the less-than-perfect innocents. :p
Too bad it stalled, but maybe we'll have a SnF in the future that we'll be able to finish, who knows ?
Maybe it'll actually be an S&F game. ;)
Ronin and D'art were on your hitlist? Well, that must have been easy, Ronin got both of them killed. :lol:The image is a link:

choxorn Sep 04, 2008, 10:24 PM @Methos and Chand: What, Ronin did that on purpose? Why?
LightFang Sep 04, 2008, 10:30 PM I just wanted to say that it was fun GMing the game.
The part I hated the most was figuring out how much gold each person received and then making the appropriate calculations and adjustments.
The part I liked the most was writing it up. I fancy myself an average writer.
Tolis Sep 04, 2008, 11:05 PM ah i forgot about the illusion, he was a filler charater just thrown in at the end. His stats were chosen by the player at 4 attacks 3 defenses and 4 weakeness, and his ability was the "perfect warrior" which allowed him to negate either the defenses or the weakness of BOTH combatants in battle.
The hit list and protections list, i guess ill discuss.
The CAs had a hit list, and the Agents had a protection list. Starting out, the CAs only had the choice of 1 fight a week, but as each list dwindled, the ballance of power between the CAs and the Agents would shift. If the game made it to week 1, the CAs would have been up to choosing 3 battles during the next week (each week the hit list would have been filled with random names, and each kill would grant them an additional night time battle choice) while each death on the protection list would lose the agents a battle a week for good.
This convoluted scheme was designed to hide from even the CAs that they were actually agents in desguise. Yes, and to fill in on catharsis's statment, i actually had to AIM backwards logic to even get a vote on that day. There wasnt too much going on on the agent side thats for sure. They just somehow managed to stay under the radar.
Few theroies i put to test in here.
Notice, there was no Hard prophet. I am not a fan of prophets that just sit back and check people, thus every single person with information gathering abilities were either limited (as in only usable on charaters who had fought), fed information to the marks (false prophet had to team up with catharsis, who was an agent), or self incriminating (arcane adept had a pretty powerful ability, but what if the person was inactive for the day?).
Messing up with battles. No one really knew exactly what their ability did, which in hindsight might have been a mistake, as it led to little betting. But i wanted the battles to be a bit more unperdictable then SnF, and gave numerous people the ability to affect the battles in some way.
Dilberate Lack of Ballance. Some charaters were strong then others, this was on purpose.
choxorn Sep 05, 2008, 08:16 AM I don't see how you could get all of someone's PM's sent to stg, you probably wouldn't know of some PM's existance.
I knew exactly what my ability did, and it sucked. :p
sirtommygunn Sep 05, 2008, 02:45 PM I was really worried about the effectiveness of my ability, due to the fact that people could easily just not send PMs to Tolis. I only got to use it once, and it didn't tell me a thing. :(
It was preety fun, but the long delay due to change of gms really made me lose a lot of interest.
Tolis Sep 15, 2008, 09:33 PM I don't see how you could get all of someone's PM's sent to stg, you probably wouldn't know of some PM's existance.
I knew exactly what my ability did, and it sucked. :p
remember the ability to scan attack types was highly limited at the start of the game, with only possibly 2 people being able to tell, and in this game, the attack types give a generic bonus, so you wernt as far off as you might have thought. You would have dominated almost anyone early game.
