View Full Version : Preview: Improved Rivers
Goldfool Aug 03, 2008, 09:29 AM Cleaning up the rivers file again.
This file is based on Pounder's rivers with banks with the deltas replaced by my docks.
Filled in more water at the docks to show fewer islands.
Added a few more tributaries.
Replaced river heads with rivers that look better when not starting in a mountain.
Any feedback would be appreciated.

Stormrage Aug 03, 2008, 10:22 AM I like it. Altho the docks would seem a bit out of place in a non-scenario game..

I don't think they are out of place, I use them and usually there is a town built on at that point and the docks appear to be part of the town.
Even if there is no town near by, the docks are not really from any specific era and would be one of the first things built by settlers.
JSnider Aug 03, 2008, 12:37 PM Like the docks also, but (yes always a but) I tend to think they are to long and would like them to run only about 60% of the length they currently do.
As to the rivers I like the way they stand out over other versions. If I was to do anything I might add a little color variation to the blue and maybe a stone or 2 in the river .. all cosmetic true.

Thanks for the comments.
I made the docks the length they are to compensate for the fact the the coastal terrain tiles are all different sizes and the ratio of land to water varies, it was the original reason I made the docks to hide the problem of the river deltas sometimes being inland and somtimes out to sea. The whole exercise of redoing the river deltas was to mask the shortcomings of the original graphics. This second version with the docks clears the problem a lot more.
As for a stone or two, there are a few islands that show up in the middle of the rivers, the colour of the islands will change with the underlying terrain type. I could always add more if that is what you are suggesting.
I'll play around and see if more can be added.
Edit: Here is a shot showing the terrain variances that are trying to be covered.

Ozymandias Aug 03, 2008, 01:08 PM Hi Goldfool,
Is there any chance you might be persuaded to release 2 sets, one with and one without docks?
Best,
Oz

That would mean making/adding a new set of deltas, I will probably be able to do that for you.

I'm looking at the changes I made to to the Delta Rivers file and the MTN Rivers file.
I think that if you use the mtn river file I will release and use Pounder's extended deltarivers with banks file you will have large extended deltas and the changes I 'm making at the river head and tributaries.
Remember that these are just modifications to Pounders rivers with banks. http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=98828 post #55
Mithadan Aug 04, 2008, 09:31 PM Ah, I didn't realise that. I don't keep very well abreast of static graphics mods, but I should!
