OK OK, no naked pics - sorry to disappoint but I had to get your guys attention... so if U can please take some time and give me your opinions :D

I am a day away from completing this map - finally!
The work involved in making this map was immense. Mostly because I wanted to create something that was accurate even in the smallest detail. I am pleased with the results and I hope all of you will be to.

Areas that I would love to get some input on before posting it:

• As many of you know, the map editor is limited. Switching from example from grassland to plains causes a huge difference in the shape of the square. In areas where shape is much more noticeable, such as the Mediterranean trying to balance correctness of the type of terrain with the right shape is almost impossible. So I am curious, what you people think, would you go for shape over the right type of terrain or vice versa? And if anyone from Firaxis reads this, it would be great if there were different size/shape of each kind of terrain, that way enabling us to come up with really accurate maps (yes I know I am a bit of a perfectionist freak :D )
• Tech rate concerns me - this map is 256 by 256 and I worry things will advance too quickly. Anyone have a suggestion regarding this?
• Speed – Patience is a virtue and and that will definately be put to the test with this map unless you’re playing on a smokin fast system. I will however, work on a Mod and see if I can adjust settings making it playable on slower PC’s (suggestions on how to do this?)

That’s about it - here is a sneak peak (will be posted this Friday)

Well it look very nice (and accurate), but it is too large for me and my not so smoking fast computer :( .
You should place a few grassland tiles in the southern tip of Greenland along the cost imo.

Why do people make so hugh maps when very few can play (and enjoy) them...

teturkhan, when I saw the thread's title I was about the cross the border and whoop someone's butt! (I thought someone was posting my leaderheads on CFC - after CFC told me I couldn't put my graphics here)

But, then I saw it was just a ruse and settled down. After you all you founded two of the most entertaining threads in CFC history, one of whom appears to have been resurrected today.....:D

On topic: Map looks good, I have no problem with a huge map as I'm doubling my computer's memory next week anyway.

In response to your initial query, I think you should go with terrain type over shape.

That map looks really good. but alast, its to big for me to have fun on it, if i play a huge map my turns take like 5 minutes when I near the end of the game. slow @ss computer

Wow that looks great! if I had a faster computer I'd think about using that for a scenario (mine has trouble with 180x180 maps :( ), I especialy like how you have included antarctica.

Since you are so good at maps, I will make a request that I don't have time for;

When I played Civ II I used to like making post apocalyptic scenarios, where a catacylsm had turned the world on its axis, and reduced all the humans to stoneage nomads.
Do you think you could do an World map tilted 90 degrees off its axis so that north and south africa would run paralel to the top of the map, and Eurasia would be tilted to run down the map, africa would curve down to the southern ice caps, and Antarctica would be sitting on the equator, where the pacific is now.
All the mountain ranges etc would be the same, but America would be all tundra and the south pole would be equitorial (jungle/desert. All the terraintypes would be rearanged to reperesent its new position.

I used to love them games, the stinking Antarctikans bombing my proud Neweurasian cities, it was familiar, yet sureal, a strange new twist on an old map.

I have some sketches I could post, because the contienents look diferent when not exposed to traditional cylindrical projection (Austrailia is actualy as big a land mass as North america, as is india).

Can't wait for this map!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Looks Great.
I play only with giga or huge maps! :D
And your right, I have a giga world map too, (I forgot where I got it from) and yes, the advances are too fast
If there is anyway to slower the research I would like to know too! :)
(I would like to enjoy more all these great new created units that I put in my game ;) )

• (Off Topic) GenghisFarb I saw your Genghis Khan Animation, WWF style huh? And who is that Girl, she is hot! Why don't you make a naked animation of Catherine the Great? :D

• This map was based on the Mercator’s Projection, thus the reason why Greenland is so large. Initially I was in favor of other projections, some quite controversial, but I opted for Mercator’s. The reason being, that though the northern hemisphere is much larger than it should be in this projection, it is nevertheless a barren land, and thus will not really impact game play. I could have made my own personal modifications “TETurkhan’s Projection” but I thought I would stay true the most widely accepted one – Mercator’s. Also keep in mind that it is impossible to have an accurate map of the world on a 2 dimensional plain, no matter what you do there will be some stretching involved (distortion).

• When I am done the mod for this map I expect it to be playable on slower systems. As a matter of fact I am quite confident in this regard now. There is however one glaring problem. Bomber Range - 8  This renders bombers almost completely ineffective, and to date I have found nothing to be able to alter this limit. Why ineffective? Because on a map this size, 8 spaces hardly covers any distance.

• More about the Map: It was done by hand, but measurements were taken to ensure proper overall shape. I did not use any utility tool except for the map editor which comes with the game. There is however a great tool for you map makers (http://apolyton.net/dir/index.php?sid=333354414&id=86&t=reviews&toprate=4.6650&tophits=1388&cat=49). I unfortunately did not stumble on this utility until just yesterday  The manner in which I created this map was to place a grid on it (referred to longitude and latitude lines on a globe & put pollution spots representing points where the lines cross). Then I went about mapping each block, very long process, very tedious, but accurate.

• Current Status: 2 people will be proofing my map, one a geologist and another who has much experience in making maps. After both people give me thumbs up I will post it.

teturkhan I was ready to go off about how it would be nice if someone would make a graphic with women that WEREN'T naked or made to be a fantasy.

Anyway I would suggest someone make a world map that isn't gigantic. Not only does it take a long time between turns but I also think some people don't have endless hours to play civilization. (Not a flame by the way :) )
