View Full Version : Higher Rating / Ranking
modernalliance Aug 08, 2008, 07:42 PM I've been playing Civ4 on the first 2-3 difficulty settings to get the hang of it. I've been dominating the ai, but can't seem to get too high on the rankings (dan quayle, etc.). any tips on how to get higher? i'm ready to move on to a higher difficulty, but the ranking has me miffed!
v8_mark Aug 08, 2008, 07:45 PM Just move up difficulty levels and win earlier. The ranking is massively affected by the difficulty level that you play on.
modernalliance Aug 08, 2008, 07:47 PM thanks, will do
Clam Spammer Aug 08, 2008, 11:24 PM Win by Domination. The more land you have, the better your score will be.
Does anyone here know exactly what score you need for each ranking? I've had a decent look through the forums and haven't found anything of this sort.
Seuss Aug 08, 2008, 11:52 PM I'm playing with warlords, and only on noble, yet for some reason i seem to get augustus caesar every time, i haven't not gotten him in like 10 games, it doesnt feel like an accomplishment anymore

That means it's time to play a harder difficulty level.

I don't know about that. I'm very, very hard pressed to not get augustus ceaser (what do you need for it, like 15k?) on anything above prince. Honestly, all you need for AC by then is to win at all. The only exception was the really late OCC space race I posted in the OCC thread using Zara (, he may truly be the worst OCC leader) where I got like 9k or something. If you have even a remotely decent pop count and finish date, not getting at least 15k on monarch is nearly impossible - and this becomes even more true as you go up. The normalized score leans on difficulty pretty heavy, a huge factor along with pop and finish date.
I don't see why score matters but if it does then play huge maps and win domination on the highest difficulty you can manage (and as soon as possible) and that will be your high score on the charts.

My mistake. I only play on Noble, and usually go for cultural or space race with very few cities, so my scores vary quite a bit.
Gwynnja Aug 10, 2008, 03:12 PM My Scoreboard is divided into two categories: domination/conquest victories with pretty high "scores," and OCC space race victories whose scores are 1/10. Does it mean the "conquer the world" type victories are better? I really don't think so. I find it far more challenging to be the first into space using only one city, but when calculating the normalized score post-victory the game puts a high influence on how much land you have and how early you can end.
