I was able to play civ 3 (the regular version) before I tried to patch the PTW and the Conquest versions. This is the error I'm getting for all three of them now-

I think you may have outsmarted yourself. It happens a lot to smart people such as you and I. :D

Are the CDs in the same drive that the game was installed from? That is, if PTW was installed from Drive P, is PTW in Drive P? That is where the game will expect it to be. If it is Drive Q, well, it will still look in Drive P and then complain that the game is not present. But it won't tell you where it looked, only that the game CD was not there.
