Hi,

I installed Security Update 2008-005 last night (released July 31, 2008, runs on top of 10.5.4) and now Civ crashes on startup every time. This is Vanilla, on an Intel iMac. It doesn't even get to the splash screen, just bounces in the dock, then the crash window pops up. I re-installed Civ, tried it from a different account, etc., no change.

Has anyone else installed this update? If so, what's the result, and what hardware/version of Civ are you running? I'll probably reinstall Mac OS X, but I'm wondering if I should stop before reinstalling this update again.

This happened to me as well. I repaired permissions and restarted. It worked after that.

Thanks, I'll try that first.

I have that update - my system is up do date with the latest patches. Vanilla Civ4 launches fine on my Mac Pro system. So I don't think there's any fundamental compatibility issue.

I once had a problem with Civ4 after a security update, maybe a year ago, and I was also able to cure it using Repair Permissions. That's the only time that the permissions repair voodoo has ever achieved anything for me.

Dojoboy's suggestion worked, not that I had any doubts ;).

I installed the 2008-005 update one or two weeks ago and the game (vanilla) refused to start up for me as well. I also tried Warlords with the same result. After reading this thread however, I tried again to start vanilla and Warlords and both worked! I don't recall doing any explicit Repair Permissions.
