Does anyone else have an issue where the "In the beginning" slideshow doesn't play when using mods? Is there a way to enable it?

Flintlock1415 Aug 16, 2008, 11:00 AM Go to your assets/art/movies/intro folder and copy those movies into the same folder in your mod. ripple01 Aug 22, 2008, 07:58 AM This didn't work, unfortunately... anyone else run into this problem and find a way to solve it? Cheers, ripple01 ripple01 Aug 22, 2008, 01:11 PM Could anyone just confirm or deny that their game behaves the same way? I'm running 3.17, when I load a mod, I do NOT get the In The Beginning slideshow. If I load up the game regulary, I do get the In The Beginning slideshow. What are other people's experience on this? Cheers, ripple01 I am playing 3.17 and I never get it. Mod or not, it won't come up. If I go back and put in the CIV IV normal CD, I get it. I really want it with Beyond the Sword 3.17, and honestly it is getting really annoying. It's there, I just don't know how to "activate" it for BTS. Let me know if you find anything, please.:) cool3a2 Sep 10, 2008, 05:43 AM The slideshow isn't shown for me, too. I guess this is not a bug. ripple01 Sep 10, 2008, 08:46 AM Anyone know how to activate it? I remember that Sevomod for vanilla Civ had a custom slideshow that would run while the game was loading... I looked at his mod but didn't see how he did it... Cheers, ripple01 Sunjah Sep 19, 2008, 03:22 AM Anyone? I will be your new best friend if you can just explain to me how to have the slideshow "In the Beginning..." working with 'Beyond the Sword.' Please...anyone? :D:D:D:D:D:D:D Dresden Sep 19, 2008, 03:44 AM I too have never seen it in BTS. Ever. Doesn't matter whether I choose MOD, Custom Game, Play Now, etc. I had honestly forgotten it existed until this topic... If ripple01 hadn't already said he gets it with normal BTS games, I'd have claimed it's impossible. :p For what it's worth, the slides themselves are in Art\Interface\Screens\progressscreen. I can't find any reference at all to the images anywhere in Python though so it's probably handled by the engine. ripple01 Sep 19, 2008, 06:01 AM The images are referenced in two XML files : XML/Interface/Civ4SlideShowInfos.xml and Civ4SlideShowRandomInfos.xml. I've changed these to refer to the custom images I'm using; I just can't figure out how to tell the game "Hey, load up the slideshow when the mod loads!!!" If anyone has any ideas or insights, please post them... Cheers, ripple01 Edgecrusher Sep 19, 2008, 10:56 AM You know, I never noticed it wasn't playing until you mentioned it. Can't remember when the last time I saw it was. Refar Sep 19, 2008, 03:07 PM I did some experimenting and i get the feeling it only plays if the game is 100% unmodded - i.e. empty CustomAssets as well. Just installing Blue Marble Terrain removes the slideshow. ripple01 Sep 19, 2008, 03:19 PM Interesting; I know that in vanilla Civ4 at least it was possible to use a slideshow in a mod. Sevo did it in his popular SevoMod. I've looked through his code but didn't see anything that stuck out at me. Unfortunately, he is long gone from the forums... Cheers, ripple01 deanej Sep 19, 2008, 06:59 PM Firaxis changed the slideshow so that it only shows up with an unmodded game when you haven't skipped past any of the movies that show before the menu with BtS. It may be possible to reenable it with the SDK but I'm guessing it's with the engine. It should be possible to create your own - just look at the Afterworld scenario. ripple01 Sep 20, 2008, 07:22 AM Interesting, I didn't know that, deanej. If anyone knows how to reenable it in the SDK, please let me know. Cheers, ripple01 |
