:DThere's three options: digital download, physical by mail, or physical by store.

I'm leaning towards getting the base game physically through Newegg and figure it'll be 3 days. Amazon is offering some Amazon prime insta-ship pay service as a cancelable trial basis, so that's another option to getting it fast physically.
Other options are Direct2Drive, et al. I've been getting 250kb/s through them lately, though not sure that this won't be such a monster that that'll still be a 3 hour download, and assuming the reg keys work. Once in a while I get junk ones that work for one use. Use em up and cry to tech support.
I'm curious how good EA's direct download service is. Anyone use them?

Another option is a pre-order hold at like Circuit City, EB, et all. Those don't go so perfectly I imagine.


So how will you get? Or will you just take valium and get it a month or so after release to avoid the loonies fighting in the stores?

I've pre-ordered the Galactic Edition yesterday at Consoleshop.nl, since that's the one Dutch site where I found it. I know that the game will let me choose English as the preferred language, otherwise I would have imported. I realized that I want a physical disk, and with the amount of time I invested on the Spore blog, I felt I owe myself the collectors' edition. :)

Im going to the store to pick it up. Depending on the way the game checks for the disc and accesses it during gameplay I might be inclined to buy a 2nd copy so my GF and I can play at the same time, me on my laptop and her on my desktop.

I will go to the store since I really don't want to wait for amazon to take days delivering it when the store is just ten minutes away from my house.

EDIT: and my computer is very slow at downloads that exceed 10mb.

I know some stores get their shipments on set days (i.e., Tuesday, or Thursday). Some do get them the day before, but they're not on the shelves yet. I remember one game, people who pre-ordered it could get the game one day before the official release date. (I think that was FF7).

Anyway, I used to get my games (way back in the day. :p) from Toys'R'Us. Imagine my surprise when the other year, the local Toys'R'Us became Babies'R'Us. (selling baby equipment) Granted, Toys'R'Us's game selection has dwindled since 1996 (from maybe 4 long isles, to one isle, to one corner of the store, to one small wall...), then I started going to EB.

even games and tv shows made here seem to be released in other countries first, it's so annoying.

This is assuming of course, you have it because it was released wherever you live and not because you or a family member work for Will Wright or someone important.

I'm going to get it at EB. My uncle gave me an EB Games gift card last Christmas which I've been saving specifically for Spore. And recently I discovered it was for $100, so I'm also going to pick up NHL 09 at the same time, since they are being released within two days of each other. Two games for absolutely nothing! :mwaha:

Although, I doubt that will cover both. Spore being $59.99 and NHL 09 will probably be quite expensive too.

I know, but even living in the U.S., it's annoying when people say a game, or show was released in there country a month earlier, even if it was made in the U.S. or Canada.

As far as I know, there are no games that get released a month early. Maybe a few days..

After I made sure I had my copy legally in my possession, I asked the clerk what the deal was. He said they received copies but didn't have a street date, so they were filling all their preorders. It truly is the lucky country over here! :D

Pragmatism and morality- I frown upon this sort of Piracy, I can lose my internet rights at my school for using torrents, and it would take so long to download that I might as well wait for the Galactic Edition to arrive in the mail.

With the draconian activation schemes Spore will have, I also wouldnt want to risk it at all.

If you're lucky you can get the Amazon Prime trial (fast shipping). I've had to wait over 6 months for a backorder before, so I use Amazon only for the rare books.

I can get groceries within blocks of several stores that should be carrying Spore on Sunday, so one trip and Nirvana.

I wonder if any of the 24-hours stores like Wal-Mart will set it out shortly after midnight tonight? (North America here; launch date is tomorrow.) Or if any of the game stores will stay open. How big is Spore? Is there a late night launch anywhere?

I don't want to download the game, mostly due to DRM concerns, but perhaps the DVD's aren't much different with DRM these days.

There aren't any advertising in my area. Walmart looks like the only way to get it early in the morning before the other box stores conventionally open at 11am.

The DRM sucks in any form for this game, but I have just enough problems with digital downloads that I'm avoiding it in the future.

Well, the Fry's near me is opening pretty early tomorrow and they'll have it out immediately. I dont think there will be too many places that have a midnight opening though.

croxis mentioned that the Gamestop (or EB games, i forget what exactly it was) from which he preordered will likely have a midnight opening. SO it all really depends on the store itself. I doubt it would be beneficial for large stores to oepn early to sell a single game because thats not very cost effective. On the other hand,s mall gaming store will probably benefit more from an early opening.

I stopped at a 24-hour Wal-Mart and wandered to the electronics section. They have Spore in a locked display case with a sign that they'll sell it on 9/7. I asked if that meant midnight or 10am or what; the employee said midnight but didn't seem very convincing; I think she was just trying to get rid of me. But I'll go back after midnight and try to buy a copy.

I was at Fry's earlier today, and they had a demo machine running it plus some $5 copies of creature creator and some sort of $5 pre-purchase that didn't specify the final price. I didn't really check into it as it doesn't seem like this game is going to be scarce at all. But of course you had to come back on 9/7 to finish buying it.

Heading out to the shops tommorrow to hopefully buy it, and get it installed and working... I pray all goes well.

Yeah, it felt vaguely pathetic, especially since I was the oldest except possibly for a dad of one of the other buyers. Actually they were pretty pasty white; I don't recall complexion or glasses. Two were girls; I was going to say women, but they looked pretty young and one had her dad there buying it for her. The girl tried to talk her dad into buying the Galactic version, but he said no, just the basic version.

I just got my copy a few hours ago at Walmart. Full of people at 10am but only myself paying any attention to the PC games aisle. I think there was a full case of Spore on the shelves so I might have got the first one.
